  1. The important thing for the Bulls now is not to hand out a terrible contract in a panic move (ala Eddie Robinson, Ben Wallace, Ron Mercer, Jalen Rose, and on and on). Get a SG or two on a reasonable deal, and the 8-man rotation is already set.
  2. So, if/when James doesn't choose Chicago, who do we blame? Management for not selling it well enough? James for not wanting to play here? Jordan for leaving too long of a legacy? Rose for not pitching it well enough? The city for not being Miami or New York?
  3. I've moved on to looking at SGs, since even if they do somehow get James, they'll need some depth at SG.
  4. To the extent that they'll be able to slash and kick, sure, but who are they going to slash and kick to? Are Kyle Korver, Mike Miller and Jared Dudley going to call a press conference announcing their intention to sign with the Miami Heat? Who do they dump the ball to inside? Pape Sow? I'll repeat: this And 1 monstrosity won't get out of the Eastern Conference. I doubt they could even take the Bulls in a seven-game series. We'll see about that I suppose... It's not as far fetched as you would think. Noah vs Heat C BULLS Boozer vs Bosh PUSH - maybe slight Heat edge LeBron vs Deng HEAT Wade vs Bulls SG HEAT Rose vs Chalmers BULLS Bench BULLS Coaching HEAT - assuming Riley comes back Of course, it's not a binary comparison, neither team is complete, Bosh is significantly better than Boozer going forward, and nobody knows the Bulls coaching quality, but other than that, it's pretty accurate.
  5. Not that it doesn't indicate Miami, but I'd think even if I signed a 120 million dollar deal with the Wolves, I'd want to celebrate on South Beach.
  6. At this point, I'm pretty convinced LeBron isn't coming to Chicago. Extremely disappointed, but hey, move on to realism for a minute. The Bulls still have Rose, Noah, Boozer, Deng, Gibson and Johnson right now. They desperately need some talent and depth at shooting guard (considering they have 0 SGs, yes, it's an understatement). There is some quality available in Mike Miller, Dorell Wright, Anthony Morrow, J.J. Redick and Ronnie Brewer. If the Bulls can land two of that group, the team as constructed should be a decent bet to contend for at worst a top-4 spot in the East. Wish there was better news, but the team gets to play anyway.
  7. I still don't get the idea of the trade exception.
  8. Plus, Bosh is likely to improve going forward, and Boozer may have already peaked as a player. (I suppose a similar thing could be said about Rose-Wade, but they're not on the same plane right now). Whoever LeBron signs with will be a favorite. According to Basketball Prospectus, based on projected WARP, LeBron + 4 average players would be expected to win 82.8% of their games next year (67 win season). Wade has the second biggest projected effect (among free agents), turning an average starting 5 into a projected 62 win team. Granted, with Wade, LeBron and Bosh on the Heat, the remaining players would likely be below average, so it's not like it's an automatic 70 wins, but each of James, Wade and Bosh are projected to provide a huge boost to a team (significantly more than any of the other free agents). For comparison's sake, Joe Johnson projects to turn an average starting 5 into a 45 win team.
  9. Hollinger loves the Boozer deal (insider)
  10. You think Carlos Boozer + 3 point shooter + young guy development - Hinrich - Miller = 20 game improvement? I'd think more like Boozer + shooter + 20 extra healthy Rose/Noah games + youth development - Hinrich - Miller - Warrick/Murray minutes - Pargo = significant improvement.
  11. The oddest thing about the Boozer deal is that it's not quite a max deal, and leaves just enough room for another max contract without having to unload any contracts. So at least the Bulls think they are still in play for LeBron.
  12. My biggest concern about a full term Boozer deal is similar to my concern about a max Joe Johnson deal. It'll be regretted by year 3, and Boozer is more injury prone than Johnson. Still better than nobody, I suppose.
  13. Because Bulls fans want him to. Because somebody has to eventually if basketball is ever going to be successful in Chicago again. Because people will get bored if he doesn't.
  14. Not unless LEbron changes his name to Boozer. That tax story twitter guy seems to think his name is BJ. The only BJ right now in the NBA that I know of is Brandon Jennings. ....dun dun DUNNNN!

    Week 14

Thanks a lot, Ryan Franklin. I can't even enjoy a Card meltdown.
  16. It's hilarious how much shorter the Spanish team is than the Germans.
  17. Choker bowl 2010 Sunday!
  18. Pessimism and Amar'e. I'm still holding out hope for disney world.
  19. He's going to Disney World!
  20. Free Agent shooting guards I'd like to see Redick and/or Morrow, with possibly a 1-year deal for Ray Allen. Head might not be a bad backup.
  21. On the bright side, you get to wake up at 10:30.
  22. The most important thing to do is to not vastly overpay for leftovers, which is what they did the last two times they were spurned by free agents. The last thing the Bulls need right now is the next Ron Mercer/Eddie Robinson.
  23. Either would have a great draw for a Cup final that hasn't been seen in recent memory. Either someone's winning it for the first time, or two hated rivals go at it.

    Week 14

Just to make sure I'm reading this right, Harang's "outing" (2 pitches, zilch results) is apparently no longer considered a start in the CBS league, so I can use an additional start to make seven. Is that correct?
  25. Really, even if they don't get a big free agent, at least they're out from under all the terrible contracts they gave out in the recent past (except Deng). They have a solid young core and can build around it. They do need a superstar, and if Rose can make such a jump, play some defense and shoot better, they can build around that and build a championship team. They have enough money to bring in several solid players if they don't get a superstar, so then it would become about not overpaying for mediocrity yet again.
