That's an odd conclusion he came to based on what he said in the article.

The third and fourth lines will probably be weaker next season, at least at the start. The starting goalie difference will be at worst a wash with a 35 year old Turco replacing a 27 year Niemi, if Niemi improves and Turco declines. The third defensive pairing is an unknown, but would be difficult to get worse than last year. Past that, the top two lines should see improved play both offensively and defensively. Basically, the team is stronger up top, and weaker on the back end.

I'm pretty sure I had a pitcher throw up two starts of -30+ in the same week. I think the current record is Chien-Ming Wang in week 2 last year, where he threw up 2 starts of -40+ in a week before being shelved for a year.

Yep, longest current and longest in history at 44 years, 321 days as of today. Second longest was the Yankees at 44 years, 263 days that ended in 2003. The Cubs were no-hit twice in two weeks in 1965, the latter of which was on September 9, 1965 by Sandy Koufax, and haven't been no-hit since.

My roster was illegal briefly today while I couldn't access players (Roberts was off the DL but I hadn't moved him yet). I fixed it today by dropping a bench player.

I'm in full blown sell mode now. Anybody not exempt is available for the right deal, but if you want Cabrera it's going to cost you. Looking for high end minor league depth and picks for next year.

Unless LeBlanc tosses a no-no today, I'm in sell mode starting next week. Youth movement hasn't panned out, Roberts was basically useless this year, and Sandoval forgot how to hit for power.

Can someone reference something that I can read as to why this is. I've seen the argument made lots of times - but never read anything indepth. Simple answer: OBP is on a 1.000 scale, SLG is on a 4.000 scale. In actual practice, each point of OBP isn't the equivalent of 4 points of SLG (otherwise a good SLG would be around 1.600), but on average, OBPs hover around .330, while SLGs hover a little over .400 on average.

They have the two second rounders from the Lee trade, but that's it for the next two years. I wouldn't necessarily call Turiaf or Azubuike decent. They're replacement level players. So, really, their assets are Gallinari and Randolph, an expiring deal, and cap space to absorb a bad contract.

What assets do the Knicks possibly have that even interest the Hornets? They gutted themselves, draft picks and all, for LeBron. They have Amar'e and Gallinari and scrubs.

I believe this will make us what 0-3 in series against the last place Astros this season? Yet we are 1-0-1 in series against Philly? Since when are the Astros in last place?

Not sticking up for Howry by any means, but aside from Marmol, Cashner, and Marhsall, the Cubs have a bullpen full of guys who serve the same purpose. Aside from the differences of age, promise, potential and stuff, yes, it's exactly the same.

Howry is the Cubs' stopper. Whenever they decide a game has been competitive long enough, they toss in Howry so the rest of the team doesn't wear themselves out trying to win.

Sounds like a team that gets to the 2nd round. After that........dicey. Considering their options and where they were last year, this team is a good 10-15 games better. Their glaring issues last year were three point shooting and interior scoring, and they added the second-best interior option and the best 3 point shooter in the NBA. The bench is upgraded from Flip Murray/Hakim Warrick/Brad Miller/Jannero Pargo to likely Taj Gibson/Kyle Korver/CJ Watson/Omer Asik. Rose and Noah should keep improving, and the upgrade from Gibson to Boozer is huge. This was about as well as they could have done this offseason having struck out on the big 3. Understood, but they'd probably run into one of Boston, Orlando, or Miami in the 2nd round. I'd like our chances against Boston the most. Regardless, I think that's the point where it becomes a question whether they would advance further. Sure, but short of getting Carmelo Anthony or something ridiculous, everyone knew Orlando and likely Miami were the EC favorites after the Bosh-Wade-LeBron deal.
