  1. Shame Spurs couldn't at least draw at Everton.
  2. I guess the Marlins wouldn't take anything less than All-Star talent for Uggla.
  3. Bulls in New Jersey tonight, where they are 2-18 in their last 20 games.
  4. Ohio State is sleep walking. They are getting out hustled and making horrible turnovers but Iowa's playing hard. It would be cool if they won. I SAID, already feeling better about that Iowa road win.
  5. Already feeling better about that Iowa road win.
  6. As a Bears' fan, nobody in the NFC really "scares" me for the Bears to face. The worst case scenario to me (a game in NO) can't come to pass. Nobody is unbeatable, and the two teams that may be the "scariest" are playing each other in the first round, and the Bears beat them both. Now, as for the AFC, no thanks to the Pats, please.
  7. That was not the kind of game to instill confidence in Minnesota's tournament chances. They're lucky Memphis is still ranked or they'd be the most overrated team in the NCAA.
  8. I wouldn't mind doing it against a good team though. It's getting kind of boring playing these [expletive] teams. This month-long stretch is why it was important to just tread water in the first 20 games. Since they did that and more, the sky is now the limit. Also kind of nice to be playing with 3 of the top 4 players on the team for once.
  9. Just completely spitballing here, but say Denver offers the #2 pick and Tebow to Carolina for the #1 pick. Would they take it?
  10. I'd definitely take the field in Big 10 and Big 12. I'd have to think about the Pac 10. Although Washington might be the only team that isn't terrible. They are so bad. Washington has the Pac-10 in the bag already. There are 5 teams in the Pac-10 better than, say, Indiana, and Washington has already beaten two of them on the road. Coupled with Arizona's loss to an awful Oregon State team and Wazzu being swept in SoCal, Washington is a shoe-in. I'd probably take Ohio State over the field in the Big Ten just because of their huge scheduling advantage. Even if you consider OSU even with Purdue/MSU/Illinois/Wisconsin, they get a leg up with the scheduling.
  11. Yeah, a combination of them playing like world beaters in every game plus a favorable Big Ten schedule (only one of the 5 good teams that doesn't play a road game against one of the others, with no game @MSU) bumps the odds well in their favor. The other boost comes from the fact there are only five real quality Big Ten teams (NU is the 6th at 47 on Pomeroy. Minny is 60). The Big East is crazy this year because there are 11 teams in the KenPom top 40, and all could reasonably finish at least .500 in conference and make the tourney (because the other 5 are TERRIBLE).
  12. Part 2 16. MEAC (Hampton 60.2%, Morgan State 28.1%) 15. Atlantic 10 (Temple 55.0%, Richmond 27.1%, Duquesne 11.0%) 14. SWAC (Texas Southern 54.3%, Jackson State 41.8%) 13. Southern (Charleston 53.3%, Davidson 18.9%, Furman 14.7%, Wofford 12.5%) 12. Colonial (George Mason 53.0%, Drexel 30.4%, Old Dominion 10.9%) 11. Sun Belt (North Texas 52.6%, Arkansas State 21.3%, Florida Atlantic 12.7%) 10. Conference USA (Central Florida 51.9%, UTEP 18.8% -- WHY IS MEMPHIS RANKED?!?) 9. NEC (Quinnipiac 49.3%, Robert Morris 31.2%, St. Francis NY 13.2%) 8. MVC (Wichita State 48.3%, Missouri State 45.8%) 7. America East (Vermont 46.9%, Maine 31.7%, Boston U 17.2%) 6. Ivy (Princeton 46.7%, Harvard 45.7%) 5. OVC (Austin Peay 44.1%, Murray State 35.0%, Morehead State 25.0%) 4. Big East (Pittsburgh 44.1%, Syracuse 28.2%) 3. MAAC (Iona 43.2%, Fairfield 27.0%, Rider 24.5%) 2. Mountain West (BYU 42.3%, UNLV 31.7%, San Diego State 24.8%) 1. MAC (Ball State 37.8%, Kent State 18.1%, Buffalo 15.5%, Ohio 12.4%, Akron 10.2%)
  13. No worries, I'm picking Seattle. Because you think they'll win, or because you want them to win? Because I want them to win, and I think they have a better shot than anyone is giving them credit for. Too many people see New Orleans as the same team as last year. Seattle is either really good or terrible this year (mostly terrible, 4 times really good), and nothing in between. I think they have one more good performance in them before a stinker the following week.
  14. No worries, I'm picking Seattle.
  15. By my calculations, there is a 119.8% chance of someone winning the Super Bowl. That is because Vegas always wins.
  16. Going by FO SB win odds, Pittsburgh and Chicago are undervalued here. New Orleans and Indy are overvalued.
  17. Also, Pomeroy's top 10 POY candidates as of this week: 1. Jared Sullinger, Ohio State 2. Terrence Jones, Kentucky 3. Jimmer Fredette, BYU 4. Jon Leuer, Wisconsin 5. Derrick Williams, Arizona 6. Kemba Walker, UConn 7. JaJuan Johnson, Purdue 8. Jordan Hamilton, Texas 9. E'Twaun Moore, Purdue 10. Nolan Smith, Duke
  18. I'm not sure J'Marcus Webb and Frank Omiyale counts as "development on the edges". I think, in the Bears' case, it's more of "the middle rushers just get there faster because nobody is blocked".
  19. Ken Pomeroy did a bunch of conference simulations, and presented the conferences from least competitive to most competitive here (for the latter half, second part coming soon). To paraphrase, from least competitive to most competitive (well, least to 17th most competitive): 32. ACC (Duke 93.8%) 31. Pac-10 (Washington 91.2%) 30. WAC (Utah State 90.5%) 29. Atlantic Sun (Belmont 90.2%) 28. Big Ten (Ohio State 87.9%) 27. Big 12 (Kansas 83.5%) 26. Summit (Oakland 82.5%) 25. Southland (SFA 81.7%) 24. Big Sky (Montana 79.5%) 23. Horizon (Butler 78.6%, Cleveland State 20.9%) 22. Great West (South Dakota 78.1%) 21. Big West (Long Beach State 73.1%) 20. Big South (Coastal Carolina 71.7%) 19. SEC (Kentucky 63.5%, Vanderbilt 27.5%) 18. Patriot (Bucknell 63.3%, American 24.3%) 17. WCC (St. Mary's 61.0%, Gonzaga 36.6%)
  20. To look at it another way, here is the weighted DVOA of the playoff teams (weighted to make recent games more significant): 1. New England: 54.0% 2. Pittsburgh: 40.0% 3. Baltimore: 27.8% 4. Green Bay: 25.2% 5. Philadelphia: 21.4% 6. New York Jets: 14.9% 7. New Orleans: 13.8% 8. Atlanta: 13.5% 9. Chicago: 11.5% ---------------------------- 10. Indianapolis: -1.0% 11. Kansas City: -11.3% 12. Seattle: -31.7% Divisional game matchup difference: Green Bay (25.2%) at Philadelphia (21.4%) - 3.8% New York Jets (14.9%) at Indianapolis (-1.0%) - 15.9% Baltimore (27.8%) at Kansas City (-11.3%) - 39.1% New Orleans (13.8%) at Seattle (-31.7%) - 45.5% So, the Baltimore-KC matchup is easily the second-most lopsided matchup of the first round, and even in the NO-Seattle game you could envision a home team bump for stadium conditions and playing a warm weather dome team, of which KC won't get the benefit.
  21. The Chiefs have not been a good team the last 10 weeks or so, and they had the benefit of the easiest schedule in the NFL. Baltimore is a terrible matchup for them, as they'd have had at least a sporting chance against the Jets. The best team the Chiefs played all year was the Colts (or do the Chargers count as a better team?). Their best win was week 1 when the Chargers were awful.
  22. get the [expletive] out of here jagoff!!!! ?? Apparently he's just like that on Mondays.
  23. Seahawks over Saints Packers over Eagles Colts over Jets Ravens over Chiefs Packers over Falcons Bears over Seahawks Ravens over Patriots Steelers over Colts Bears over Packers Ravens over Steelers Bears over Ravens
  24. Ooo k?
  25. According to FO's numbers, Seattle is the second worst team ever to make the playoffs, and the worst division winner (2004 Rams was worst overall). The two worst playoff teams prior to Seattle (2004 Rams, 2006 Seahawks) both won their first round playoff game.
