  1. Heh, Baylor's QB has thrown more TDs than incompletions on the year.
  2. More futility brushed aside: That's only the third time Illinois has won their Big Ten opener in the last 20 years.
  3. Woo, least impressive undefeated team in the country!
  4. OK, Illini, no more stupid things here for 10 seconds.
  5. Regardless of the end result, this PBP announcer has been awful all day.
  6. Barney's another difference I had from bukie's list, didn't notice that the first time. I had Barney with a C - the defense was really nice, but the offense was pretty putrid. I considered a B, but just couldn't justify it with the offense as bad as it ended up being. I suppose my problem with Barney stems more from misuse by Quade (top of the order everyday starter for far too long) than anything specifically expected of Barney. So, yeah, he's an effective defender that can't hit much that is a good defensive sub. C player.
  7. No game is a gimme, which I just said. That said, though, there's a great chance that Illinois is favored in almost all of those. Even the Wisconsin game, if Illinois is somehow 10-0 and Wisconsin isn't, they'd likely be favored.
  8. Illinois' next 8 games: vs. Northwestern @ Indiana vs. Ohio State @ Purdue @ Penn State vs Michigan vs Wisconsin @ Minnesota No game is a gimme, of course, but...they have a chance to win every one of those.
  9. Scoscia and LaRussa would drive me crazy with the small-ball crap. Maddon is probably my #1 manager in baseball, but he's nowhere near available this offseason.
  10. I'm not sure there is a consensus group think. Ramirez was arguably the best offensive 3B this year in a severe down year for offensive 3B. If he declares for free agency, he's easily the best 3B option on the market, and yet is just a class B free agent, so the compensation for letting him go isn't great. On the flip side, looking for a replacement from outside the organization is almost certainly going to considerably downgrade the offense from 3B the Cubs are getting, so the most cost-sensible option would likely be to piece together a 3B platoon from within the organization using assets like Baker, DeWitt, LeMahieu, Flaherty, or even Barney or Vitters, if we're really getting crazy.
  11. Hey, as long as you're able to put up with a team that considers 90 wins a disappointing season and can only manage to win 2 World Series in 10 years with a top 5 payroll.
  12. Here's what I graded: A's - Marshall, Garza, Ramirez, Castro, Samardzija B's - Wood, Cashner, Soto, Pena, Fukudome, Russell (who was effective when used correctly) C's - Byrd, Wells, Marmol, Mateo, LaHair, DeWitt, Johnson, Carpenter, Soriano D's - Dempster, Zambrano, Lopez, Barney, Campana, LeMahieu F's - Hill, Grabow, Coleman, Ortiz
  13. Both the last day of the 1998 season and the last day of the 1995 season were similarly nuts.
  14. Jonah Keri's twitter feed has been frigging hilarious all night, too.
  15. The really amazing thing about that 1995 AL season was on August 20th, the Angels were 63-38, the Rangers were 54-47 and the Yankees were 51-50. And the Mariners won the AL West.
  16. Well, no, because at least Fielder is playing more games this weekend.
  17. Actually, he's 3rd on the Cubs in IsoD, and one of the two above him isn't on the roster anymore, so he's on the patient end of the team. Sad note: there have only been 5 Cubs above league average in IsoD this year. One was Fukudome, who is gone, one is LaHair, and one is Koyie Hill.
  18. Runner on 2nd, 2 out, for Baltimore in the bottom of the 9th, now 8-7 (was 8-4).
  19. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
  20. I always really liked Martinez. No idea what type of coach he is, but I don't think that's a horrible idea. It would be funny to see the Ryno sycophants go nuts after a different ex-cub gets the gig. One that loves blondes in corn cob dresses. I was going to say, one way to make sure Sandberg wouldn't come back to the Cubs would be to hire Dave Martinez.
  21. Just for kicks, here are Sagarin's BCS rankings for this week (Bayesian, meaning it's partially weighted by last year's results and predictions): 1. Alabama 2. LSU 3. Boise State 4. Oklahoma State 5. Nebraska 6. Florida 7. Oklahoma 8. South Carolina 9. South Florida 10. Illinois 11. Virginia Tech 12. Clemson 13. Georgia Tech 14. Texas 15. Stanford 16. Michigan 17. Oregon 18. Wisconsin 19. Penn State 20. Texas Tech 21. Baylor 22. Arizona State 23. USC 24. TCU 25. West Virginia Keep in mind his BCS rankings factor in wins and losses (and SOS) only, no score margin factor. If you go the complete other way, and take only margin of score (and SOS) into account, they look like this: 1. LSU 2. Alabama 3. Stanford 4. Oklahoma 5. Oregon 6. Boise State 7. Florida 8. Wisconsin 9. Oklahoma State 10. Virginia Tech 11. Utah 12. Texas A&M 13. TCU 14. Missouri 15. Nebraska 16. South Carolina 17. Texas 18. Michigan 19. Georgia 20. Notre Dame 21. Arizona State 22. Arkansas 23. South Florida 24. Tennessee 25. Georgia Tech
  22. Persa supposed to be back this week? Feels really early to be playing NW already.
  23. If the Red Sox lose tonight, Tampa and Boston would be tied, with the Angels 1 back.
