  1. Good, that means they are smarter than most of the other people on these boards. For someone who despises "these boards" as much as you appear to, you certainly can't help yourself commenting on it all the time.
  2. Aww, cmon, Raisin, it'll be fun!
  3. Caleb Hanie had a total of three plays in the red zone on Sunday. Those results: two sacks and an interception.
  4. Molina has some decent numbers from AA last season... Seriously, not a bad deal for the White Sox, and I'd be pretty happy if the Cubs land a similar return for Marmol.
  5. Pujols knows of the Marlins' fire sale ways, and that a 10-year contract screams 2 years, a World Series, and then summarily being dumped elsewhere to save money.
  6. Me likey. I don't see Albert going for it. If he declines further, he could be SOL after a 4-5 year deal was up. OTOH, It could free him up to retire a Card after making a ton of money, if he were interested in such a thing. Uh...not talking about Albert. Helluva bowler, that Albert Fielder.
  7. I would have given 25-year old Albert 10 years. You might have been able to sell me on 10 years for Griffey when he was in his early 20s (not in hindsight, obviously). Beyond that, I'm not sure I can think of any other players in my memory I would feel good about giving a decade long contract to. Maybe young ARod. How about a 27 year old Ryan Braun? No. Braun has never really approached Pujols level, and Griffey and Rodriguez were both better at younger ages and played defense first positions. Braun is really good, but no. I mean, Braun actually has a 10-year contract.

  9. The grit factor would be close between the two.
  10. I, for one, can't believe that a Bristol, CT television station has the gall to hire employees that live in the area.
  11. Because he was a very borderline case, he wasn't particularly well-liked by peers and the media of his time, and HOF voters get off on being withholding. Also, the pool of voters changed over time. The people who voted him in this time aren't necessarily the same people who voted him out last time, are they? Members of the "Golden Era Committee" are still members of the hall, right? I know this was recently restructured but honestly don't know the details. The Golden Era Committee was made up of Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Al Kaline, Ralph Kiner, Tommy Lasorda, Juan Marichal, Brooks Robinson, Don Sutton, and Billy Williams. Major league executives Paul Beeston, Bill DeWitt, Roland Hemond, Gene Michael, and Al Rosen are also on the committee along with three media members Dick Kaegel, Jack O'Connell and Dave Van Dyck.

Also, the pool of voters changed over time. The people who voted him in this time aren't necessarily the same people who voted him out last time, are they? No, this was a group of MLB 'historians' and one stats guy. Not the Veterans committee.
  13. Because he was a very borderline case, he wasn't particularly well-liked by peers and the media of his time, and HOF voters get off on being withholding. He wasn't near a borderline case, but your other points are valid. I personally think it's a self-defeating idea to have only members of an exclusive club vote to let people into the exclusive club when the only reason those voters are notable is because of the exclusivity.
  14. Gonzaga still ahead of Illinois in the AP....that makes sense.... I don't have a problem with it. A single 7 point home win is hardly conclusive evidence of a team's superiority. Plus, Gonzaga destroyed ND this week as well.
  15. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE ONE OR THE OTHER? The Cubs can rebuild the system and sign free agents from outside the system. It's the benefit of being a large market team. They are not the Rays or the Marlins.
  16. Illinois crept into both polls this week, 23rd in coaches and 24th in AP. Harvard made the AP poll for the first time ever.
  17. Does his arm come separately now?
  18. Jonah Keri is live updating from the winter meetings here all week.
  19. Illinois-UCLA in the Take Our Coaches...Please Bowl.
  20. Well, that should make for an interesting Gator Bowl.
  21. When the offense consists of Cutler, Forte and a whole lot of nothing, and loses Cutler and Forte, what left is...
  22. Need some kind of miracle now.
  23. One of the linemen almost blocked his pass as he was throwing it and broke his hand instead Actually it was major wright. If Orton refers to his right hand as major right, that's his own business.
  24. Wait, have the updated computer ratings been released? OSU is 2nd in 4 of 6 computer ratings. They had been prior to this week, though, it's just the human voting that has screwed things up. So yes, 20 years after everyone decided that depending on human voters was a stupid way to determine #1, they've made it so that human voters have 2/3 of the influence to determine #2. And not just educated voters. A public poll has 33% of the influence.
  25. Alabama still #2 in the coaches poll by 37 points. Due to computer ratings, that means OSU needs to be 5 points better than Alabama in the Harris poll to finish second.
