  1. Illinois coasted against an overmatched opponent again. Next stop: avoiding a Utah-Bradley level embarrassment in Cancun against Richmond and Rutgers/Illinois State.
  2. I have no clue who is going to get the 6 seed in the AFC. Cincy may get it at 9-7 at this rate.
  3. Dempster's been worth every cent we've paid him, and the two pitchers could not have had more different career arcs at their respective age 30 seasons, but otherwise, this post is spot-on. Not sure that he's been "worth every cent," but overall he's been pretty solid and certainly isn't an albatross contract. The only year to this point where he hasn't outvalued his contract is this past year, and the difference is fairly marginal. Overall production vs. salary, though, he's produced more value than he's earned. And he's still nowhere near CJ Wilson (segue...)
  4. And when CJ Wilson was awesome in the playoffs and World Series last year, it doesn't count because nobody could be bothered to remember that far back when considering his value.
  5. Who care what number you think he'd be? If he's the tenth best starter in baseball, he should be paid like it. And #3 is patently absurd, unless you somehow think Zambrano's hitting overcomes the gap in pitching ability between the two.
  6. Possibly some of the independent leagues, but every affiliated league uses the DH now.
  7. It's far more likely the standard becomes DH for all rather than no DH. Every level of the minor leagues uses a DH and most, if not all colleges use the DH.
  8. svoom Suh-VEE-um SEV-er-us
  9. No problem, I'll write the article for Bleacher Report. It beats the Loney crap.
  10. Or three guys who weren't Juan Pierre for Juan Pierre.
  11. Was he also traded to the Cubs today?
  12. Ok, who wants to start the thread on finding the next Cubs' hitting, pitching and bench coaches?
  13. Depends on how you spin it. A one game playoff for teams without identical records is ridiculous Not really, the team with the better record has home field advantage. If you want better, you'll have to win the division. Thus the more significant regular season.
  14. Agreed. I really don't like it. It further cheapens the regular season plus it runs the real risk of drastically affecting the 1 game playoff winner's rotation/bullpen and making them even a bigger underdog in the next round It cheapens the regular season for one playoff team (the first wildcard winner), while strengthening it for the other 4 (division winners, second wc team)
  15. Season series?
  16. 1 flex position: Starks vs TB Bennett vs SD Torrey Smith vs Cin
  17. Alphabetically, yes. As Erik Bedard cries himself to sleep.
  18. Well, he did say he was impressed with SOSH, so he might be.
  19. Didn't realize Podlesh had been THAT good...wow It's all about net punting yardage, which is avoiding touchbacks and not allowing returns to cancel the yardage of the punt. The Bears are amazing at limiting punt return yards. In fact, Hester's 82 yard return yesterday just about equals the total amount of return yardage the Bears have given up (84 yards on 48 punts, for a 1.75 average, with just two touchbacks).
  20. Honestly, six or seven or eight years doesn't matter to me. You aren't signing Albert Pujols with an eye to what he can give you when he's 39. It's total value. $180 is about as far as I'd go. That's both absurd and was never going to be in the ballpark as to total value he'd get. If you didn't think the Cubs would have to beat the Cards' lowball 200/9 offer from last year, then you were never really thinking the Cubs could reasonably get him.
  21. Yes please. Also, the Raiders are the top ranked AFC West team at 18th. The next worst best team in a division is the Falcons at 11th. On the plus side, that's an improvement over last week when they were 21st and the highest ranked AFC West team was 20th (SD). On an amusing note, they also passed the Vikings, but last week all four NFC North teams were rated higher than all four AFC West teams.
  22. I hate the Chicago sports media. $130 million over 5 years, maybe, Van Dyck.
  23. Spain-Germany-Portugal-France, please.
  24. Because the vast majority of college football betting is from Texas? :P
