  1. If the Cubs continue playing at their current winning percentage since Rizzo came up, they'll finish 98-64...
  2. His O-swing is terrible of late. I'm not sure if he's not seeing the ball well or if pitchers have found a breaking pitch to get him to consistently offer out of the zone, but that would take a level of research I'm not willing to put in at this point.
  3. I'm not overly concerned about the Cubs getting the #1 pick, specifically. Especially since there isn't a Harper/Strasburg once-in-a-generation talent sitting there. Ideally, I'd like to see the Cubs trade off some of their veteran assets (Soriano, Dempster, Marmol, Garza?) for youth, and even have the youth improve the team play over the last couple months of the season. If they end up with, say, 95 losses and pick 4th, it's just as good as finishing with 105 losses and picking first.
  4. The other 28 teams must be downgraded to "maybe".
  5. I mean, the All-Star game itself is pretty lame and fan-service-y, and it should have absolutely nothing to do with how well we can expect players to play going forward this year. Just because we shouldn't be penciling LaHair in the starting lineup every day going forward, doesn't mean he didn't absolutely tear the cover off the ball for about six weeks, to the point where even with this prolonged downswing, he's still among the league leaders in hitting categories.
  6. Jonah Keri sums up my thoughts on LaHair's All-Star selection pretty well:
  7. It didn't look like Alex White adjusted well. So they sent him down to work on additional training to get used to throwing 75 pitches every 4 days.
  8. The Giants pitching staff hasn't allowed a run in 32 innings.
  9. @SebastianPruiti Atlanta picks John Jenkins to stand open in the corner while Josh Smith shoots long twos...
  10. Jared Sullinger reminds me of a young Carlos Boozer.
  11. Skip Bayless says obstinate nonsense. Film at 11.
  12. Lamb to the Rockets.
  13. Meyers Leonard being drafted ahead of Jared Sullinger was not something I thought would happen a year ago.
  14. This is the first time Germany has trailed at any point in Euro 2012, either qualifying or the tournament.
  15. The common thought process around this area is that if Kane isn't going to be as good as Toews, he's just an expendable piece.
  16. Considering he's probably got an innings ceiling anyway this year, you lose innings by letting him start when he's got stamina issues. I'd rather see him get 10 more decent 6-7 inning starts than 15 4 inning starts where he struggles. If letting him rest a while can help that, then let him rest for a while.
  17. A to the Rizzo
  18. Sac flies count against OBP. Yeah, basically, he has more SAC + SF than BB + HBP.
  19. Well that's not true. Which part of it isn't true?
  20. Once again, though, DFA does not mean release.
  21. Puig has officially been declared a free agent: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120626&content_id=33976710&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb&tcid=tw_article_33976710
  22. Ten years ago today, the Expos made what was, in hindsight, one of the worst trades in history. The Indians traded them Bartolo Colon in exchange for Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, and Grady Sizemore. That deal officially killed baseball in Montreal.
  23. Perhaps the best aspect of the Rizzo callup is no more starting Baker at 1B.
  24. Buffon saves Cole's attempt in the 4th, Italy can win it here.
