  1. Valbuena sac fly, all runners advance, 2nd and 3rd, 1 out for Maholm.
  2. Bases loaded, none out for...Valbuena, Maholm and Johnson.
  3. What an odd thing to say just after Soriano homers on the 7th pitch of his AB. I only have access to game day and noticed both pitchers had low pitch counts so it was posted before I knew Soriano came to bat. And since then, Baker had a 5-pitch single and Soto a 6-pitch walk.
  4. What an odd thing to say just after Soriano homers on the 7th pitch of his AB.
  5. what happened? Runner on third, Rizzo grounded to a drawn in infield, they caught Johnson in a rundown and Rizzo napping off 2nd on the play.
  6. When did the Marlins get a right handed Bryan LaHair?
  7. How often has the Cub pitching staff allowed 0 walks in a game?
  8. He'd be the best defensive SS in the league by UZR, if the Cubs didn't already have the best defensive SS in the league by UZR.
  9. There's nothing wrong with being patient. The primary risk you run is that the player you're looking to deal gets injured before you can make the deal. But if they've got several bidders out there, the best case scenario is to let the bidding get as high as it possibly can before pulling the trigger.
  10. A Giants-Braves game that was 1-1 after 9 is now 9-4 in the 11th.
  11. Z today to Paul Sullivan: "You never change. You stay ugly."
  12. Plus, the Giants as an organization criminally undervalue youth and farm system, so for any deal to work favorably for the Cubs they'd have to be able to exploit that somehow.
  13. Little risk, but even littler reward. Velocity down, K rate down, walk rate up, already past his prime age. Volstad and Coleman are better options.
  14. From an ESPN.com chat this afternoon... Just from a random fan i know, but I found it odd to see Castro's name casually thrown out there like that. I don't even know that SF could put together a package worth dealing him Oh, they could, but they never would. I mean, I'd sell on a Bumgarner/Posey package, most likely. Which would totally defeat the purpose of the Giants trying to obtain him.
  15. The Marlins are 12/16 in NL attendance this year. I'm too lazy to look this up, but when has a team ever opened up a brand new ballpark in a major city and managed only to improve from dead last to 12th? Why does this team even exist?! Who's behing them? If I had to guess, in no particular order, Rockies, Astros, Padres, Pirates? That's awful that they have only seen that little of a spike in attendance Arizona, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Houston. Although, none of the attendance figures are glaringly bad in the NL this year with Houston last at just north of 22k a game (Oakland, Tampa and Cleveland are lower than that in the AL).
  16. The Marlins are 12/16 in NL attendance this year. I'm too lazy to look this up, but when has a team ever opened up a brand new ballpark in a major city and managed only to improve from dead last to 12th? Why does this team even exist?! JEFFREY LORIA *SSR punches a wall with Loria's picture on it*
  17. Because he is constantly clueless as to the value of any player at any level at any point in baseball history.
  18. Article from Bruce Miles on who would start if/when Dempster and Garza get dealt: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/7006 Summary: if the Cubs don't get major league ready pitching in return...it'll get ugly fast.
  19. Pretty crazy that there are only three teams under .500 in the AL right now, plus only one is at .500. By comparison, three of the five teams in the NL West and three of the six in the NL Central are under .500. In addition, all the AL wild card hopefuls have come back to the pack in the last 15-20 games, so the second Wild Card leader is Detroit at 4 games over .500.

    Week 15

Cincy decided to bump up Bailey to start today and I didn't catch it in time, so please remove any Bailey start points from my total.
  21. From the beginning of the season to the end of May, Dempster posted a 2.90 ERA but lost 7 of his 9 starts. Since then, he just decided not to allow any runs at all.
  22. Billy Hamilton was called up to AA after posting 104 stolen bases in 82 games. He's stolen two bases in the first game of a DH today, and stole a base last night for AA for a total of 107 to this point.
  23. Amusing (to me) trivia: with his two homers today, Soriano matched and passed Mark Grace on the Cubs' all-time HR list for 13th.
