    This feels like one of those years Illinois runs with an 11-12 seed to the BTT finals, because their results are so much worse than their overall play. Plus, now the freshmen have actually taken over most of the offensive contribution, and lo and behold they're playing better.

I can more easily excuse an injury season for a player that really showed something special, but I see Vitters about the same as Szczur now, a serviceable filler that could break into the major league roster and fill a bench role possibly. 24 strikeouts in 117 PAs is knock now? It doesn't point towards an exceptionally good hit tool.

    I can't think the sport is boring and repetitive without it being a macho thing? I'm just not sure what the difference between figure skating and any other winter olympic individual sport is, aside from the judging scores (which they've tried to get better at by having no top score and every "trick" have a base score before deductions). I get that the ice dancing is pretty lame since there are basically zero jumps, so it's all artistic flair, but figure skating is similar especially to any of the other trick based events in skiing and snowboarding. At the olympics, I prefer to watch the events in which the olympic event is definitely the biggest deal for the sport. With all the skiing and snowboarding trick events at the X-games, I actually prefer figure skating to the two.

Still a better watch than most of the events in the Olympics. Three notes about today's program: - None of the US skaters were expected to be anything other than long shots for medals, so for all of them to be in range makes the free skate worth watching. - With the new scoring rules, most of these events have been decided before the free skate even began since there was such a point difference between the skaters, so having the top 3 within a point of each other (in contrast, the Men's competition was over on the first day with one guy 5 points ahead of everyone and the top 2 20 points clear of the rest). - One of the gold medal favorites screwed up royally four times today, which is something I never saw in the Olympics before.

    Women's figure skating will be a good watch as well, with the top 3 women within a point of each other, and all 3 American women in the top 7 and within striking distance of a medal.

    Czechs hold on to win 5-3 after an empty netter and face the US next. Switzerland lost to Latvia 3-1, further reinforcing that group C was extra weak.

    Of course, the dilemma is that the better he does this year, the more likely he is to be locked up before FA, and the worse he does, the less desirable he is as a target.

Norway, 0 pts (-9) So, the quarters will go like so: 1. Sweden vs 8. Slovenia-9. Austria winner 4. Finland vs 5. Russia-12. Norway winner 2. USA vs 7. Czech Republic-10. Slovakia winner 3. Canada vs 6. Switzerland-11. Latvia winner If Canada had won in regulation, Canada would have been the 1, Sweden the 2, and USA the 3, with everything else remaining the same. As is, the US gets to face a real team in the quarters thanks to Slovakia playing like ass, then likely Canada in the semis, with whoever makes it out of Sweden/Finland/Russia in the other half of the bracket in the gold medal game.

    Are we setting up the automated keepers again this year where you need to check the players you keep? Or are we just trusting everyone to drop the players necessary? Looks like 4 teams aren't set up in a way that shows who they're keeping yet: NSBB, Tuna, STI and HBC.

    There are basically 8 legit teams made up of NHL-level pros (Russia, Sweden, Canada, US, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland), so any of them not making the quarters would be an upset. That said, getting a top-2 finish in the group round sounds a lot better than playing, say, Canada/Finland in the quarters.
