  1. "Truth" and "Beat Writer" don't belong in the same sentence. Cynicism from Wittenmeyer isn't any more true than the opposite.
  2. Not sure why, but that tweet made me imagine what kind of pitch Loria would make to Tanaka's group.
  3. I figure if you want to make sure you pitch a guy on a set schedule to see how his frame holds up under standard duress, Daytona is the last place you do that.
  4. Like I said before, I'd be pretty comfortable photocopying Soriano's contract and giving it to Tanaka. 8 years, 136 mil.
  5. Interesting. Things have been really quiet on the Wrigley renovation front. What if they have been secretly looking over other sites and have decided to go that way. ok ok unlikely, but what kind of enormous news could there really be that doesn't involve a player move and that would shock us. Ownership change Front office change Ballpark move Ballpark renovations already nearing completion in secret, Tunney suddenly declared missing TV deal New baseball video game comes out, giving Derwood a chance to live blog his character once again
  6. That's why I picked Edwards. He's going against 2 guys (Almora and Soler) who each had about a 1/2 season of attrition last year. I'm not going to assume Edwards is going to get hurt until he actually gets hurt. And I'm not going to count the chance he gets hurt against him when comparing him to 2 players who have been hurt. I'd probably vote Edwards next, but based on this poll it looks like Soler will be ranked 4th since his little bar is the next largest after Almora. I only voted Almora because all the experts say how polished and high his floor is. I trust the experts on this and think that's very important. Edwards has an extremely high ceiling, and an Ace in my personal opinion, but I don't think he's anywhere near as "safe" a prospect as Almora. That means little since nobody has any idea what Almora voters at 3 would pick for 4.
  7. I wonder how much of this is to get rid of the creepy guy(s) dressing up as a bear outside the stadium and pretending to be the defacto mascot. They hadn't been able to legally get rid of them since the Cubs didn't have an official mascot, but now...
  8. Ribery, Bale and Radamel Falcao. Messi voted Iniesta, Neymar and Xavi. EDIT: Dempsey voted Ronaldo, Messi and Zlatan.
  9. It's a vast improvement to Ronnie Woo Woo. EDIT: In fact, if they took Ronnie Woo Woo, put him in this getup, and made him stay quiet, this is the best thing to happen to the franchise this offseason.
  10. Being a cynic doesn't make you smarter or right either, as much as you try to insinuate. Yes, because it is somehow cynical to be disappointed in how much the Cubs are losing. No, because it is cynical to assume the worst in everything the Cubs are doing.
  11. I could have accepted Steve Olt.
  12. At no point was any of that a correct answer.
  13. Not sure this is a top 25 team. This team needs easy buckets to score, since nobody can shoot but Rice, and if they double Rice, there are no other options.
  14. I was going to make a Derrick Rose joke, but he didn't go to the Big Ten, so Magic Johnson for sure.
  15. And oddly enough, the point of having a poll is to avoid having 100 posts saying "I agree" and forcing Raisin to count them all.
  16. Multiple selections would be more helpful if there were a way to rank selections.
  17. Being a cynic doesn't make you smarter or right either, as much as you try to insinuate.
  18. Maybe somebody wants to make sure he doesn't fall off the ballot from lack of support...
  19. Just give him a copy of the Soriano deal, with Tanaka's name taped over it. Save money on reprinting.
  20. Awful ballots, from Awful Announcing: http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2014/january/2014-s-worst-baseball-hall-of-fame-ballots.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
  21. Also, I'm sure it's not relevant now, but I'd add Candelario, Vizcaino, and maaaaybe Olt and Villanueva to the next poll.
  22. Only one option? Seems limiting.
  23. They didn't have steroids in the 80s or in Japan.
  24. I remember a month or so ago there was a theory that there definitely would be a fair amount of guys who wouldn't vote for him knowing he was a lock to get in and they would use his vote on someone else they thought might have a hard time even staying on the ballot for next year, let alone get elected this year, they think is worthy. I get that line of thought, I guess. I'd expect that strategic voting from the guys with public ballots not the 110 year old fossils who were private You can hardly blame those people for not making their vote public though. How are they supposed to do that without a computer, or electricity?
  25. Yet that Gurnik guy suffers no consequences for basically filling out an obvious troll ballot. Crass also, who submitted a blank ballot.
