  1. Kris Bryant will be the starting RF and the best hitter on the Cubs by the end of the year.
  2. Sommons? Assuming they meant Andrelton Simmons, but I just copied it directly out of the chat.
  3. From Fangraphs chat: Dan Szymborski: Right now, top 10 hitters, 25 and under, by future WAR in ZiPS: Trout, Harper, Machado, Baez, Polanco, Sommons, Buxton, Profar, Salvador Perez, Bogaerts
  4. Still think Sheffield is the best comp, with Baez better defensively and Sheffield better patience/contact.
  5. He spent just as many years as a Cub as he did a Brave.
  6. I went for the flying V line.
  7. Is his nickname 'Red'? If it wasn't, it is now.
  8. To me, the only other player with a reasonable argument for going here would be Vizcaino, and that only if you expect he's healthy.
  9. He's so good at hitting, that if he had a position he'd be in the discussion for top 4. What about the fact that his OPS was 25th in the Midwest League last year? I get the theory that his bat would place him very high if he actually played well at 1B and that he did actually destroy AZ and the NWL, but if it is all about the bat, shouldn't the lack of dominance last year be a little disappointing? Raw power #s were down this year, but he was hitting the ball well. BB/K ratio is fantastic and his walk rate and K rate are great for a player at that level, which translates well to higher levels.
  10. He's so good at hitting, that if he had a position he'd be in the discussion for top 4.
  11. The problem is that our plan now is all-in on hoping that most of them at least hit the upper quarter of their ceilings. As promising as those guys are, it's not a sure thing, and if it doesn't work out, then where are we? We're leaning on them more than anyone would like, but if we even get 4, say, 3-4 win players out of Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Bryant, Soler, and Almora (not to mention the others that can pop their heads in like Vogelbach, Candelario, etc.), then we're in really good shape. You'd hope that Rizzo and Castro are already 2 of those guys. If 2013 Castro remains a thing going forward, that would REALLY suck. It's a possibility I'm not willing to entertain quite yet. Plus, having tons of well-regarded minor league assets has value beyond hoping they all pan out for the team at the major league level.
  12. Depressing article from Jonah Keri on what the next move for the runners up should be since they missed out on Tanaka: http://grantland.com/features/well-they-couldnt-all-have-him/
  13. He's ours. Jesus he's so [expletive] bad at this. Who? What? CT wants everyone to know how bored he is. Repeatedly.
  14. A huge percentage of the population doesn't believe in the inconsistencies of the event. However, people who do believe in the inconsistencies of the event believe they are a huge percentage of the population. Also, truthers don't like the term truther because it makes them sound as crazy as they actually are.
  15. I find it easier to believe that 40% of the Americans that read whatever truther magazine did the poll are truthers.
  16. I don't know if I'd say it isn't that important, but it's definitely after d-line. The good thing is that this draft has some really good defensive back depth, so there will be value in later rounds. I'd say in terms of absolute importance, it comes after both lines, offensive skill players, and corners for sure, and possibly linebackers also. Above special teams players, though, most definitely. I'd say the Bears are set at starting QB, RB, WRs, three OL, one LB, and one CB. Beyond that, they're not above help anywhere, and starting safety is pretty far down the list of important places to find players, and safeties aren't a difficult position to fill with draft depth. EDIT: Or shouldn't be, if you aren't the Bears recent draft history, but I don't think drafting them earlier is the solution.
  17. No safety is worth a top 15 pick in the NFL draft. The position simply isn't that important.
  18. It already did. It lasted a couple minutes.
  19. Cavs come back from down 24 (17 in the 4th!) to have a final possession down 3 with 2 seconds to go, and they commit a 5 second violation.
  20. Brett on Twitter, being all rational and stuff. Still, better than the blind bid system for Darvish.
  21. In fact, he was such a good sport that the refs decided to flag him for taunting! That was after for the choke sign to Harbaugh. Which is because Harbaugh told NFL teams not to draft him Your title as most blind, ignorant Seattle homer fan is not in jeopardy here, you're allowed to use the truth occasionally.
  22. Every time I think someone does something too indefensible from even the craziest homer fan, the homer fan just ramps up the crazy to match it.
  23. 2009, Saints-Colts.
  24. Hmm...do I root for Peyton Manning or Richard Sherman in two weeks?
  25. Especially considering Sherman was out of position and lucked out on a tip drill.
