  1. Just because you only make mental notes when Castro makes mistakes, it doesn't make it valid data.
  2. What Len says: @LenKasper Btw, acc to FanGraphs, Starlin Castro's $ value is $50.4M for career to date & $13.9M this yr. His actual salary is $5M. Perspective.
  3. How ridiculous was Devin Hester... http://espnfivethirtyeight.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/morris-feature-nfcnorth-1.png?w=512
  4. August 8. The Rays won the game 4-3 in 10 innings, and the runner ended up scoring the 3rd run of the game with 2 outs, preventing the Cubs from winning.
  5. Renteria gets it. Kaplan does not.
  6. Then it's a good thing he'll be a scout and not a writer. It's not like they're hiring Kaplan or something.
  7. I mean, maybe he finally realized he couldn't keep up with all the Cub minor league success while having to follow other teams.
  8. Soler's single was not one that I would consider a "seeing eye" grounder. A grounder between SS and 3rd that narrowly missed each is pretty much the definition of a seeing eye grounder.
  9. Not a chance a seeing eye grounder to left scores Castro from 2nd with 1 out anyway.
  10. Yep, Kaplan is flipping his lid about Castro.
  11. Welp, people are starting to care enough about the Cubs to overreact stupidly in game threads again. They've made it.
  12. The article is optimistic enough, but the comments are everything I hate about baseball. Possibly the most meatball set of comments in article history.
  13. Seems weird to me to be pulled midgame with the cubs on an off day. Could be Ruggiano headed to the DL, and they needed him for tomorrow since the Cubs insist on carrying 13 pitchers.
  14. Fun stat. Last year, Dave Toub went to the KC Chiefs to be their Special Teams coordinator, and their weighted DVOA for special teams went from 22nd to 1st overall.
  15. Huh. Would not have guessed that. I said that in the game thread. :P
  16. Javier Baez has had 82 at bats this season. Matt Carpenter has had 490. They have had the same amount of home runs (7). Same trick works for Yadier Molina, Allen Craig, Bryce Harper, Brandon Phillpis, Russell Martin, Gerardo Parra and Yonder Alonso.
  17. Iowa is currently 4 games out of a playoff spot (thanks to an 8 game losing streak). Their elimination number is 6.
  18. A's acquire GEOVANY SOTO from the Rangers for cash.
  19. As much as I've enjoyed the pompous attitude and sheer ignorance of the Cubs team by the Oriole fans around the net, I have to give a shout out to the Orioles SB Nation site for titling their game thread today "Don't go chasin' Wada balls".
  20. Castro back from bereavement list, Watkins to Iowa (for Tuesday, August 26).
  21. Tried to bunt Coughlan over to 3rd, and popped up the bunt.
  22. Well, now there's no reason to leave him in too long.
  23. 103 pitches is Wada's career high, he's never gone more than 7 innings.
