  1. Cubs now have the best record in baseball. Curious how long it'll be until someone complains about the Brewers again. EDIT: Cubs also have the best run differential and are the highest scoring team in baseball again.
  2. Luke Mensik (LWC HS, ILL) drafted by the Giants in the 17th round. So that makes 7 IL prep players drafted (Jaden Fauske, Conor Essenburg, Jack Wheeler, Luke Mensik, Ethan Moore, Cameron Appenzeller, Ike Young) and not Jack Bauer who was the #1 prospect most of the spring. Wild.
  3. Finally, my kid can put his phone down and not worry about getting a draft call from scouts that were definitely not looking at him while looking at Conor Essenburg and Jack Bauer. 🙂
  4. I am surprised Bauer hasn't gone by this point, maybe he's really committed to college or teams are really scared off by the huge velo uptick in a short time with relatively few innings.
  5. Yeah, MLB drafts especially are hard to project and hard to analyze until basically 5 years later and depend a lot on organizational development.
  6. Still on the board. Teams probably skittish about a HS arm that gained so much velocity in one year, the injury risk there skyrockets. Also, he was used mostly sparingly this season, and any time he went more than an inning, subsequent innings he'd sit low to mid 90s. He's a high risk high ceiling pick.
  7. I just hope the Cubs continue winning because then other results don't matter.
  8. Michael Busch is now 5th in MLB in OPS behind Judge, Raleigh, Ohtani and Will Smith.
  9. If that were the only factor they'd just have used him for the entire 9th. Seems like they wanted Wicks to hit a specific count, then get Palencia a few tosses.
  10. Nice 5-1 homestand against playoff contenders where the Cubs outscored their opponents 41-17.
  11. Wicks was probably on a pitch count for today. Threw 41 pitches.
  12. Hasn't pitched since Wednesday and no game tomorrow. Wouldn't want him to get no use for 6 days.
  13. Man, it's like the Cubs offense just stopped trying after they went up 11 after 5.
  14. Another stat I think is hilarious: There are 65 position players in baseball with a current fWAR of 2 or more. The Cubs have seven of them (PCA, Tucker, Busch, Suzuki, Hoerner, Kelly, Swanson). The Brewers just got their first (Frelick).
  15. Positive things about the Cubs offense: As of this minute, live stats have 20 players in MLB with a wRC+ of 140 or more. Four of those players are on the Cubs (Busch, Tucker, Suzuki, PCA).
  16. Call me an optimist, but I have a feeling there will be another starter on the roster by July 22nd.
  17. I'm so glad in a game thread where the Cubs are throttling the Cardinals the wall of ignorance is focused on how Ian Happ and Matt Shaw are problems.
  18. It's MLB. If you are out 2 of every 3 ABs, you are an above average player (league average OBP is .316).
  19. The Cubs' starters fWAR is 21st in baseball, lots of starting rotations are superior. Turns out having the best hitters, fielders, runners, and relievers also counts.
  20. Cubs are now 29-13 at Wrigley this season (0-2 at "home" in Japan).
  21. Nice to see the USMNT win a game they dominated for 70 minutes and nearly lost anyway due to 3 stupid mistakes. They move on to face Guatemala, because Canada had an inexcusable red card just prior to half.
