I heard about that....apparently Tom Brady players a LOT better on turf, so they decided to install it in Foxboro...pretty dumb Unless you're kidding, I highly doubt thats the reason. That field has looked abysmal this year. I remember one game the center was basically just a long stretch of dirt, even to the point were sports casters were complaining about it. They've always had a problem with the grass as the season goes on. It's been like this ever since the stadium opened up.

I don't know how you can say that. DeRosa averages what, 10 homers and 50 RBI's a season? Soriano can triple his HR totals and he can double DeRosa's RBIs. Average and OBP wise, he matches up with Soriano, but that's about it. You missed the point. DeRosa was crappy for two years then good for one, and now he's getting paid like a good player. Soriano was good for two years and great for one, and people are clamoring for him to get paid like a great player. Soriano has had good numbers for 4 of his 6 full-time years in the big leagues. The only years that he struggled were his rookie year, where he only had an OBP of .304 and his final year with Texas where he had an OBP of .309. While those are pretty crappy years, the other 4 years have been pretty decent for Soriano. While last year was his highest in terms of OBP and HR's, he had three seasons with a higher average. Soriano deserves to get paid...maybe not $16 million a year money, but he's going to get that nonetheless because teams are going to be desperate to add a guy that can not only hit for power, but be a threat on the basepaths. DeRosa meanwhile has only had 1 good season in his career. I just think comparing Soriano and DeRosa is comparing apples to oranges. If I was a betting man, I would say that DeRosa has been signed as our 2B instead of Jones' platoon partner. I'm fairly certain that you're right. I don't see Hendry being much of a guy that would platoon players on a daily basis. That's not Hendry's job. That Piniella's job. While it is Piniella's job to fill the lineup card, I really can't see him platooning Jones and DeRosa. Plus, it is Hendry's job to sign and trade players, and I'm pretty sure that this is Hendry's 2nd baseman.

Thats what I thought of this signing; a right-handed version of Walker. I don't feel particularly bad about this signing, but not particularly great either.

Don't forget O'Malley. I really think this kid could be good. He needs another year or two to get seasoned. I'm definitely not counting on O'Malley. He's a AAA pitcher at best.

Would I like A-Rod? Of course. But would I be willing to part with Z to land him? Absolutely not. Our rotation is crap as it right now and to trade one of the best starters in the game really isn't worth it IMO. Yeah it'll benefit our offense greatly, but who would be our #1 starter then? Rich Hill? I'm a Hill fan, but he's not a #1 starter. Signing Schmidt or Zito would elevate them to ace status, but still, you have only Hill behind him as a guy who you know will produce for you. You really can't count on Miller or Prior being effective for you next season. I'm all for getting A-Rod, if it would take prospects, but trading Z to get him would not help us in any way.

Texas says hello. Plain and simple, Sori was league average for 2 of the last three years (in a hitters heaven taboot), how does that not scare the bejesus out of people? Yes he had a teriffic 06 but please put it in context. The world did not begin in April 2006, we have more info than that to make our decisions! Soriano is not guaranteed to do anything for you. Even though before last year, the two seasons he had the most homers (39 and 38) came with the Yankees, right? 2 of Soriano's 3 seasons as a Yankee (besides his rookie season) were both better than his two seasons in Texas. Look at his career averages: .280, .325 OBP, 35 homers, 94 RBI's. I think he'd be a good beneficiary of the summertime winds at Wrigley as well.

I'd like Soriano and I still think he's a realistic option. Based on what Piniella said last night, I believe that the Cubs are going to get involved in the bidding with the Angels. I don't think the Phillies are going to go as far up as teams like the Angels and Cubs for Soriano. The guy is guranteed to hit .280 for you, hit 40 homers, and steal 40 bases, while driving in a ton of runs. Yeah his OBP isn't the best, but if the Cubs (who by the way say they want to spend $115 million on the 2007 team) sign Drew for one of the OF spots, I'd be more than willing to sign Soriano and take his OBP hit. The guy would be a great addition for a middle of the order threat. And if we were to land Soriano, I'd definitely have him play in the outfield. His defense really improved throughout the year and he has an amazing arm as well. I know it's not saying much, but he's already a much better defensive OF than he was a defensive 2nd baseman.

Giants are getting owned. And I know it's mocking the Giants, but PLEASE stop with the jump shot celebration. It was cool the first 50 times, but everyone in college and the NFL can come up with a more creative celebration than a jump shot.

That was an absolutely brutal call.

What's the point? If you don't get the 2, you're down 24-19 and if you were then to get a TD without allowing the Bears to score, you'd only be up by 2 and not 3 where they could kick a FG to potentially win it. It's too early to be going for 2 when there's a whole other quarter to play.
