  1. I think there are a lot of starts between 5-12 points. I am the master of them. I think QS's used to be worth just 5. I like it the way it is. I like everything the way it is.
  2. I was looking forward to Ungs and Marmol. But this is a pretty good matchup too.

    It's done

My team is screwed up! I swear I drafted Peyton Manning, LT, Tony Gonzalez, and Edgerrin James!
  4. And his away numbers have been no better. And before anybody tries, don't compare him to Lee. Juan will be 30 when he starts next season. Lee was 28 when he came to Chicago, still in the range when guys improve. Lee was also productive, year-in year-out, consistently putting up solid numbers while in that pitcher's park. He was just 2nd tier. Juan has been anything from really bad to mediocre, and is just now having his first good season. He averages 38 BB and 114 K every 162 games played, and he's not a consistent 160 game kind of guy anyway. He's really just a 4th OF who can be inserted when needed. I hate Encarnacion with every fiber of my being. I don't know what has happened this year, but he's a bad baseball player.
  5. Yep. it probably will take him more than 3 full years unless you guys don't expect Pie, Murton, Greenberg, Walker, Harvey, Montanez or Bacon to make it in the next three years...There are a lot of Cubs OF Prospects and only 3 OF spots not to mention the fact that there are 3 others up there right now... and who defines an age appropriate level? I've seen 19 year olds both blow through the MWL and struggle at the MWL. I've also seen 24-25 year olds struggle here and then somehow flip a switch at High A the next season and make the majors...and I've seen 22-23 year olds make the MWL look simple and then flat out suck and flame out at AA... The point is that each individual is different and must be handled differently in regards to where they go and how fast they move. That's why they have Director of Player Developments and a lot of rovers and assistants... Good points all around (last few posts). I'd like to see Fuld at AA, simply because I think he could handle it. He has the patience and bat quickness to not suffer much of a dropoff by skipping a level. And while I agree that the MWL is much tougher than the NCAA, I think that NCAA experience has to be taken into account. A college draftee has less time to stay in the minors before he has to stick on the 40-man.
  6. I'd love that bench. Guys who can get on base at all spots. Only thing is Fontenot can't play SS. I'm not a fan of any of the CF options you mentioned, and I don't think there's anyway the Cubs get possibly the top 2 FAs this offseason (Burnett, Giles).
  7. Yeah, you can replace him.
  8. How'd the runs score?
  9. I could easily see the Braves trading Andruw. They have some good young OFs. They could move Chipper or Marte to the OF. Of course, it would take a lot more than that trade to get Jones. They aren't in the position where they need to give him away to clear payroll.
  10. Why do you think Griffey would okay a trade? He's seemed pretty set on remaining in Cincinnati to date. I think anyone is tradeable. Threaten to put him on the bench, and he suddenly becomes more open to moving on.
  11. I may have interpreted it incorrectly, but I thought I saw that Griffey is likely out for the year with a torn tendon on his foot? My bad. I thought he got injured and then played afterward. Did he get hurt twice last week?
  12. First, an off-subject comment, Man, Griffey is really having a good year. He's quickly returning to elite status. That could be big for the Reds, because they could trade him, get good prospects in return, and not have to pay as much of his salary as once thought. Back on topic. I would love a Giles/Mench combo. That's the most productive realistic combo I can see. I could easily see Preston Wilson in a Cubs uniform, though. If the Cubs cut bait with Corey (which is what I expect via non-tender or trade), they are gonna go after a CF. Wilson is someone the Cubs have had interest in. My guess is the Cubs will get Wilson and Floyd. Murton or Floyd will be forced to play RF. Also of note, I think guys lower than Burnitz right now could be available and could put up better numbers than Burny next year: Huff, Wilkerson, Lawton, Ford and Klesko.
  13. Let's face it, it's because baseball is boring. All of us here are diehards and love the game, but most young people aren't entertained by standing in the field for 15 minutes without getting a ball hit in your direction. In baseball and football, everyone on the field/court is doing something every single play.
  14. Agreed. Vick's emergence is keeping a lot of kids from being college WRs, but I give Cunningham the credit for giving guys like Vick (and the current crop) a chance to stay at QB.
  15. A poor man's Kevin Roberson? Kevin Roberson was a poor man's Kevin Roberson.
  16. Good point IMB. Willis is very important to the game of baseball, because of the reasons you mentioned. And to be honest, there just aren't many black kids playing baseball. None of my black friends even follow baseball. Every single one of my white friends grew up playing it. But I don't agree that Vick is the standard bearer for the black QB. I think Randall Cunningham has to get the credit. Culpepper, McNabb, and the immortal, Kordell Stewart were all Pro-Bowl QBs before Vick ever started an NFL game. McNair and Aaron Brooks were among the league leaders in passing. And you also had Charlie Batch as a starting QB for some reason. Vick is important because he took the athletic QB to a new level. But Cunningham planted the seed, and changed the game.
  17. See Julio Lugo circa 2001. If Cedeno played most everyday next year (400+ ABs), I see a BA of .255-.270, an OBP of .320-.335, and a SLG of .360-.380, with 100 or so Ks and 30-40 BBs. A .700 OPS from him would be a good 1st season from him in my eyes. I think once he hits his mid 20's, you'll start to see the patience and power increase and he could be a high .700's/low .800s OPS type player. He's still filling out and is very raw, but could play at this level.
  18. willie parker already got picked My bad, gimme uh, Brandon Jacobs RB NYGiants
  19. Colon will win in the AL. Clemens will win. He deserves it. He's better than last year when he won it.
  20. Dawgs select: Willie Parker RB- Pittsburgh
  21. Perez is hitting 2nd and playing SS again.
  22. Well, you said just 2005 stats, NOT just 2005 minor league stats. If you consider ML success too. I'd go: 1. Murton 2. Cedeno 3. E Patterson 4. Sing 5. Pie Pitchers 1. Gallagher 2. Hill 3. Nolasco 4. Pinto 5. Pawelek In fact, I'll go one further and give you a 2005 Cubs All-Minor League 1st Team (prospects only i.e. no McClain). C- Fox 1B- Sing 2B- Patterson SS- Cedeno 3B- Moore LF- Murton CF- Fuld RF- Harvey RHS- Gallagher LHS- Hill RHR- Van Buren LHR- O'Malley
  23. I'm just not sure Burnett isn't Wood part two. Sure he's going to pitch 200 innings this year, but Kerry did the same in 2002 and 2003. I don't think it's wise to have to high salary, high injury risk pitchers in the rotation, but that's just me. High talent is how I think of it. The Cubs could cut ties with Wood after 06 too. And Burnett would give the Cubs the flexibility to put Wood in the bullpen if he can't handle the starter's load.
  24. Raw Dawgs select K- Doug Brien, Chicago
  25. So we should take the rotation this year, which has generally sucked, and return it completely unchanged and only hoping that perhaps things will turn out better? No thanks. Yeah, let's get rid of those bums Prior and Zambrano. Seriously what do you expect the rotation to look like? Prior and Zambrano are way too good and young to trade. Wood is too talented and has a no-trade clause. Maddux isn't going anywhere unless he retires.
