  1. Yeah, but I think the majority of people assume Sosa used steroids. The whole Manny Alexander thing is an indirect link to Sosa and steroids. I don't think he will get in as a 1st ballot guy, but he definitely should. For the record, I think this current crop of players will get screwed by any remote suspicion of steroid use. I think players who have no link or suspicion whatsover will get preferential treatment when it comes to Hall voting.
  2. I would start Wood on the DL too. Can't you retroactive it until whenever you want?
  3. I think one more bench player is needed. But I don't see a deal happening. I think the only deal you may see is a guy like Wellemeyer or Koronka traded for a low level minor leaguer, to clear a 40-man spot.
  4. I haven't. Haven't used the search yet, though.
  5. Depending on the guys in his league, Stewart is a guy that could slip thru the cracks. He doesn't get the hype of a lot of other top guys. Plus, 3B is easier to fill than SS. I'd probably gamble that Stewart makes it to his 2nd pick. Of course, can't fault him for picking any of those names. You think that Stewart will last up until the 22nd pick (straight draft) or even 33rd pick (snake draft)? I really can't see that happening at all. If the managers in his league are knowledge, they'll know that Stewart was injured at the beginning of last year and so got off to a slow start, and that his overall numbers understate how he raked when healthy. Those that don't have a clue will probably just head over to Baseball America, where the first thing they'll see will be Stewart ranked 4th overall in last year's Top 100, as well as top Rockies prospect the last two years. A fair point about third base being a deep position. By the way, Howie Kendrick at 3 is a huge overdraft in my opinion. Oh, I just saw it was an 18-team league. No, he won't last that long, then. Agree on Kendrick. Not that high on him for some reason.

  7. Stephen Drew.
  8. Will Wellemeyer be traded? He is out of options Novoa starts @ Iowa as the closer? Who goes down when Miller is ready? Williams, Wuertz? I think the Cubs will try to get something out of Wellemeyer, when they see he isn't making the team. I'm pretty sure someone would pick him up if he was available late in spring (Colorado comes to mind). Yeah, I think Novoa will be at Iowa, if Wood is ready. I'm guessing Miller will be eased along until there is an injury, which there inevitably will be. I think Williams and Wuertz will pitch their way onto permanent spots. I think Wuertz will wind up ahead of Williamson in the bullpen.
  9. I'm guessing one 5th OF will make the team and that's about it, barring injury. OF- Pierre, Jones, Murton, Mabry IF- Ramirez, Lee, Walker, Perez, Cedeno, Hairston C- Blanco, Barrett SP- Prior, Zambrano, Maddux, Rusch, Williams RP- Dempster, Howry, Eyre, Ohman, Wuertz, Williamson That leaves 2 roster spots. If Wood is ready to go, he has one of them, with the Cubs pitcher fetish if he's not ready Novoa will be the ever important 7th reliever. So, I think it comes down to Grissom vs. Restovich for the final roster spot.
  10. They aren't jackin' my car!
  11. Baserunning clinics, with an emphasis on sliding into 3rd base.
  12. Don't we all.
  13. someone else was saying its good. hard to trust the opinions of college kids sometimes so its good to hear it from you. Has to wait for PPV though! I'd give it a B/B+, so maybe 'quite good' was too strong. In fact, renting or PPV'ing would be just fine. Happy belated B-day to Halla, thanks for the pictures. She's adorable. She looks to be in training for something (wrestlin' the cat, pushing the stroller, using the car seat as a sprinter's gate...) :) Yes, she is also in sleep deprivation training - only she is training me. That may be useful in 14 years or so. You would think she would stop moving while she was sleeping but not really. How's life back in Illinois? You adjusted to cold yet? It's been a year already? Vik back in Illinois? I'm so out of the loop.
  14. Vanity Fair is my new favorite magazine. Rachel McAdams was supposed to be on the cover also, but she decided to keep her clothes on.

Just saw King Kong the other day, first theater trip since........... I don't even remember. I saw King Kong too a week ago. Cheesy. But pretty close to the one before it, IIRC. Oh yeah, and Scarlett is a wonderful human being. She's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but she's a blessed young woman.

I don't think Reddick's game will translate well to the NBA. I'd prefer a 4 and a 2 who can create for himself and get to the rack. Many share your opinion, but scouts had similar things to say about Michael Redd, who fell to the second round. We all know how wrong the scouts were in Redd's case. I think Redick will be a decent NBA player. He has more talent than people give him credit for. He can create his own shot now. He can defend a little now. In fact, he reminds me a lot of Ben Gordon.
  17. I think Johnson is there based on potential if he ever gets 100%. Sing is there for the same reasons Dubois was there. He has just flat out produced. I don't necessarily agree with either ranking, but I can understand it. Veal #7. I like that. I look for him to have a big year.

Morrison's a 3. The Bulls don't need a 3. They need a legit 4, would say 5, but there are no legit centers alive.
  19. To answer the title question posed in this thread. NO. He's a very good athlete. Can play 3 IF positions, and probably can play all OF positions if needed. Doesn't stay healthy enough, or probably won't hit quite enough to make it as a utility player.
  20. All, There are no more "big" games for the Hoosiers this year. IU scored 22 points in the first half....There is no longer any need to discuss the lack of depth in the paint or being entirely reliant on the three or taking contested shots instead of moving the ba...bah Good luck to Iowa, UI, Michigan, M. State, Minnesota..etc. Put a #1 by Wisconsin and maybe the Davis and his players will show some freakin effort. No excuse for this bullcrap.
  21. Jacque Jones will finally live up to his potential as a player. Think of it this way, if Jones hits his career average of .279, and walks at the very respectable pace he did in 05 (.087 BB/PA), he will have an OBP in the mid .350's. If you think that's not very realistic, then look at his pre-All-Star numbers last year. He was on a very similar pace last year, before he fell apart. HOW'S THAT FOR OPTIMISM!
  22. Never heard of Lennie Friedman.
  23. Nope. I'm just 1 person, so I'm an Alumnus.
  24. The Detroit Pistons don't have a problem with the philosophy of having no star players. I wouldn't say they have a clear go-to guy, well at least not anymore than Gordon is for the Bulls.
  25. I believe you offer arbitration to Wood simply for the extra negotiation time and for the draft picks. I still think Wood will be a Cub beyond 2006. I'd definitely offer to Barrett also. And you forgot a big name, Derrek Lee. He won't ever get to that point, but if it happnes, you take your chances, as he will almost certainly be a Type A.
