  1. I think I'm the only one who hates the RedSox more than the Yankees.
  2. If I'm not mistaken, Puello started as a catcher but was moved to 3B. I think he and Canzler can handle the MWL pretty well right now. Not much reason for them to be down there.
  3. I'm a Cubs fan. I'm optimistic to the point of stupidity. I still root for the Cubs to win every single day and hold out hope they can win the division.
  4. I like the Indians myself. Partial to the Pirates, living in DA Burgh now, plus I'd like to see them do well, because the architechs of PNC Park deserve a winning team to play on it.
  5. Hell, he's the team starting 2B, after being the everyday SS last year. I think they think of him as more than a utility guy. Hairston was a utility guy. Neifi is a regular.
  6. True, one reason Beltran is having a good year is that the Mets now have Delgado to back him up. Beltran, Reyes, and Wright have been the best players at their positions in the NL this year. Possibly in all of baseball. Add Delgado and Loduca who have been top 3-4 at 1B and C respectively, and there you go.
  7. I probably would have paid Beltran the money in the first place and took my chances. As I said when he was signed last January. The Cubs are one of the largest market teams in the league. They missed out on Beltran and Drew because they didn't want to spend the money with Sosa on the books in the OF. They missed out on Tejada because they had Alex Gonzalez on the books at SS. They missed out on Vlad because they had Alou on the books in the OF. NOT SAYING THE CUBS WOULD HAVE GOTTEN ANY OF THOSE 4 PLAYERS! But a team with the Cubs' resources should have at least taken a shot. There's really no reason that when every free agent comes up the name Chicago Cubs should follow New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers in the likely destination discussion.

This would be a no-brainer for Pax -- I hope its true. The Bulls would have some nice options with the #2 and #7 picks. I would definitely agree with that. If he were to land the #7 pick, the Bulls could realistically land 2 out of these 3: Roy, Aldridge, or Thomas. Thomas and Aldridge are expected to fall down to around #7 if the Bulls do not pick one of them at #2. Roy, of course, is expected to go to Charlotte if the Bulls don't pick him at #2. Either way, this could end up being a very productive draft if we can get the #7 pick. Maybe then package #2 and #7 for a proven superstar? How about we do Duhon and #16 for #7. Chandler, Deng, #7 for Jermaine O'Neal and #17. Sign Pryzbilla. Sign Toni Kukoc to the vet minimum. Draft Roy at #2. Draft Sene at #17 (if he is there). Extend Kirk. Starters: Kirk --- 15.9 PPG/6.3 Assists Gordon --- 16.9 ppg Nocioni --- 13ppg/6.1 rpg O'Neal --- ~20/10 Pryz --- 6.1 ppg/7.0 rpg/2.32bpg Key Bench Players: Roy --- rookie Sweetney --- 8.1 ppg/5.3 rpg Kukoc --- 4.9 ppg/2.3 rpg/2.1 apg in 15 mpg Sene --- rookie Harrington --- 4.8 ppg/2.1 rpg in 11 mpg Strengths: Starting Lineup Will have among the best guard play in the league JO provides a legit all-star power forward Pryzbilla is basically Chandlers equal Nocioni is one of the better SF's in the East Weaknesses: Not as deep of a team Not much backing up Nocioni at SF (Kukoc) Could use another big man off the bench due to O'Neal's injury history. If this is the team and they go into the playoffs healthy, they can contend in the East. I don't think that team is better than the 05-06 Bulls. Jermaine O'Neal's a star, but he's not that big a difference maker. Kukoc is horrible. And your guard rotation is not among the best, unless Roy has an amazing rookie year.
  9. I don't agree that Marshall does not have the stuff and potential of Hill. Marshall's curve projects to be a little better long term. Fastballs are similar, with Marshall's having more movement and more upside. Marshall has the potential to have a much better changeup. Marshall has shown a history of better control and better groundball rates.
  10. HELLS YEAH! I shoulda beat Tim last year too, for his only loss, but I played him in the week that I moved and didn't have internet access to make a change which would have won me the game. Time for the inevitable let down. 3 losses to start. 3 wins after. alternating L-W-L-W-L-W ever since.
  11. I meant record-wise. But yeah, I'm definitely worried about your team. You have pretty good pitching, and have some guys capable of putting up big offensive weeks.
  12. Getting real interesting. Oswalt is 1 inning away from a QS. With a 6-1 lead is pretty much guaranteed a win right now. He also has thrown 78 pitches thru 5, so a CG is not likely. Berkman also hit a 2-run HR to increase the margin. Up to date stats have me up 14 right now.
  13. After a save by Julio and the L added to Escobar, I'm up about 16 with Oswalt going, and points still coming off from Escobar's total bases. So, Oswalt has to get a quality start and NO loss, while not getting any help from Berkman offensively.
  14. I have 3 starters in the top 16, including the #3 pitcher in the entire league, who is rapidly gaining on the top. I have 3 OFs in the top 18 of scoring in the league. I have the 5th hottest player over the last month at 1B. I have the #2 closer in the league. I have a top 10 SS who came out of nowhere, and is competing for a batting title. I have a top 8 3B. And that doesn't even mention Vlad, who has had a down few weeks, but a month ago was in the top 15. That doesn't mention the top pitching prospect in all of baseball. If Oswalt does anything tonight, I'll be 5-7 in 6th place in my own division, despite being a good week away from 5th in the league in scoring. I don't even know if I'm buying or selling right now. I have a 6-5 start advantage next week against one of the bottom teams in the league (no offense). Then I have a potential 10 start week after. So, if the Sox somehow bomb Oswalt, I could be 8-6 and in the thick of things. Or if I have 2 starters leave after 1.2 IP next week, I could be 5-8.
  15. Wow. I already had a 7-6 start disadvantage. Now, I get Smoltz leaving after 1 2/3 due to a groin injury, and El Dookie leaving after 1 2/3, because he was visited on the mound twice in the same inning. At least they gave up 8 combined ERs in their 3 1/3 innings! 50-point league down to single digits, before the late games are played.
  16. More worried about the gem Liriano is....oops, was throwing! Woo! NO shutout! Likely no CG!
  17. SOS had two 20+ starts from Carpenter, 1 from Capuano, 1 from Garland, 1 from Gonzalez and 17+ start from Robertson....and I lost by 11.
  18. Woo! Rusch gets another built in excuse! He's not this bad, he was playing hurt.
  19. For the record, I would still have Pie #1. Also, I think the 3 pitchers close to or in the majors (Marmol, Marshall, Gallagher) are extremely close. Before the season, I would have said, Marshall had the highest ceiling, Gallagher had the most attainable ceiling, and Marmol had the best stuff. Now, it's really hard to say. Marmol is electric, but Gallagher has amazing stuff. I bought into the "not-projectible" argument, but what he is doing this year says otherwise. I might put Gallagher ahead of the group because of his age.
  20. Weaver was sent to the minors. Is it legal for me to pick up a pitcher who starts tomorrow to make up for the start I'm missing with Weaver going to the minors?
  21. Wow. Me and SOS getting some gems thrown. Carpenter 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 13K, Win Garland 5.1, 2 ER, Win Gonzalez 1-hitter thru 6 vs. Santana 8 IP, 1 ER, 13K, ND Smoltz 6 IP, 3 ER, Loss Weaver 1-hitter thru 3
  22. Felix makes great adjustments. Almost always gets better ABs as the game goes on and as he gets comfortable vs. a pitcher. Hasn't happened that much this year, but I would expect him to have a big 2nd half of the season. His patience, hasn't been that bad...I agree that power seems to be my biggest problem with his season so far, as I thought he would hit for much more pwoer in the PCL.
  23. Subject to change: QB- Carson Palmer RB- Clinton Portis RB- Ronnie Brown I changed a keeper.
  24. Cubs don't have to be like other sellers. They don't have to trade off a bunch of high-priced players and regroup. They still have a solid nucleus (Lee, Ramirez, Prior, Zambrano, Dempster, Cedeno, Murton, Barrett) of players and a $100M payroll. If a guy like Abreu is made available, the Cubs shouldn't pass on him (or the like) because he won't help them contend this year. The Cubs are gonna try to contend in 2007 regardless. They aren't rebuilding. There's no reason they can't get a head start on 2007, by going after players like they are contenders in 2006. Of course, this strategy comes with a lot of danger. The price will be higher for such a player now than it will be in the offseason.
