  1. I'll play if you still need another team.
  2. I agree that this is probably the cheapest way to make the team look better right away. The RF platoon and legit OBP in CF and 2B (although, I'm not a big Lofton fan), could make the offense slightly above average. With big years again from Lee, Barrett and Ramirez and something useful from Izturis, it could be a real good offense.
  3. He's penciled in as my backup catcher for 2007. It would be stupid to spend money on a veteran cacther, unless Barrett is traded or moved to a new position. Yeah, Barrett's young enough and his bat is good enough that he is needed to play 130+ games behind the plate. Soto would be perfectly fine for 30 or so games.
  4. I was actually looking forward to hearing your case for Ryan Howard. ;) First full year, he's stronger than Atlas and putting up the numbers to show for it. Won the HR derby. Hell, I just like him a lot. Scary if he gets better. Philly has a scary team if they keep Burrell, get a pitcher, and can find players for the top of the lineup to put Rollins 6th or 7th.
  5. Yeah, Pujols is the winner, especially when you consider he would be miles ahead of everybody in every category had he not missed 3 weeks. Pujols, Beltran, Howard, Utley, Soriano is how the voting will go.
  6. This race will go down to the wire. Would have been interesting to throw Liriano's name in there had he completed the season the way he was projected to about a month ago. I think the voting will go: Jeter, Ortiz, Dye, Ramirez, Thome Hafner is often overlooked in the league for some odd reason, and is on the only team not in the playoff race of the MVP contenders. I'd actually probably vote for Dye, because he's the biggest surprise to me. Jeter would probably be 2nd, followed by Manny, Hafner, and Ortiz.
  7. I think he'll be a type A. But that's just a random guess. I actually wouldn't trade Pierre, unless I got prospects close to the majors. The draft picks would be more valuable at this stage than any 2 prospects from the Phillies that are in the low minors.
  8. In both. And I don't know if it could be changed, but I am in favor of the point spreads being added......especially for college. Anyone can know that USC will beat Arkansas, but can they beat them by 35? That makes it much, much tougher.
  9. If it wasn't the last preseason game this week, I'd like to see Griese vs. #1 defenses. He's played all #2's all preseason. It's basically the safe pick vs. potential right now. If Griese starts, the Bears can get down the field slowly but surely. If Rex starts, the offense can be much more explosive. Griese doesn't have nearly the arm Grossman does. Teams can attack the short routes with Griese in there.
  10. How do you figure that? Fox .276/.312/.454 (AA) Pie .282/.340/.445 (AAA) And that's ignoring age, level and ceiling. Fox's aggregate stats for the year between A and AA: .299/.356/.527 I just can't ignore level and age when I vote. I believe you have to ignore age for an award like this. It's just about who's had the best season. Granted, I do think you have to account for level in this discussion. Of course, I believe the jump from the Southern League (pitcher's league) to the PCL (hitter's league) is the easiest in baseball. For the age thing, I could argue that Pie's 5 years as a professional baseball player give him much more experience than Fox's 3. I could also argue that it's more of a challenge for a C to focus offensively than an OF.
  11. I called Webb as the top sleeper for the Cy this year. This season has been in the works for a couple years. Of course, I did think he would be just beat out by Peavy after back-to-back seasons of a ERA and a K title. Webb, Carpenter, Zambrano....in that order. nobody else is in the conversation. Someone should start an NL MVP thread so I can argue for Ryan Howard!
  12. You should stand for it. Fox has had a much better year.
  13. Rickey and Raines get very little credit for being absolutely brilliant baseball players. Rickey especially is one of my top 15 position players of all time.
  14. Thanks! There are plenty of guys on that list that need consideration, but the above three are the ones I'm most concerned about. Did you just miss Wells or not concerned about him? He's the most ML Ready of the list, and the easiest to hide on a roster (imo). I didn't miss him and I do want to keep him. But the three I picked were the ones that I'm most concerned about protecting. Wells is probably next on the list. I agree. Those are the biggest concerns. And yes, I know that Harvey isn't close to being ready.....but neither was Sisco. Next would be Wells and Rapada.
  15. Screw that! Best 3-4 combo ever! Pagan- Ramirez. Patterson- Karros (when Sosa was hurt in 2003)
  16. Girardi & Wilkins Is Berryhill even from the Cubs system? And yeah, he wasn't very good. Wilkins had one of the best years from a catcher ever. Girardi had a long career, at least.
  17. I'd argue that those are the 2 most important stats to look at when evaluating a prospect
  18. For the record, I was in no way clamoring for Hairston back. But when Nomar went down, the Cubs knew Neifi would give them a .280 OBP and above average defense. JHJr at least had the potential to get on base at an average level.
  19. I'm disappointed at the lack of Mitch Atkins love. Compare his numbers to Gallagher's. Granted, Sean has 2 months in age and 2 levels over Atkins, but it's not the best prospect having the best season award. Atkins numbers are comparable across the board. Not saying that he should be winning or anything, but if Sean has 7 votes, Atkins should at least have a handful.
  20. Tim wrote: Don't find too many minor league catchers with 50 xbh's in a season... I wrote: Nope. Plus, he's been the best offensive player in the system this year. He's starting to turn it up in AA. .850 OPS, decent walk rate, just short of being a legit asset in his game. K rate is solid for a power hitter. Right around 1K per 5 AB, definitely acceptable. And I did rag on his defense earlier, but he's not THAT bad defensively. Great throwing arm. He works well with pitchers from what I hear. He has caught a lot of talented pitchers who have wicked stuff, and a lot of guys have performed quite well with him behind the dish (career years for Mateo and Shaver, has caught Gallagher, and I also believe he got a game or 2 with Veal before he was promoted).
  21. San Diego at #5 is a joke. They have about the least amount of pure talent at WR in the league. McCardell and Parker had decent numbers, but I'd argue Moose over both. I also like the Bears group over Cleveland and Atlanta at least. Of course, I'm just going off of WRs, not including TEs. The Bears may be worst in the league at TE.

That being said, my vote goes to THE DON! But I could be persuaded before my committee vote! 1. Veal 2. Fox 3. Atkins 4. Gallagher 5. Moore
  23. I think Marcus Giles is on his way down. I think he peaked early, and will continue to put up numbers similar to what he has this year. Spot in the order has nothing to do with it. Injuries do, but he's one of those guys who injuries like to find. He's going to age faster than the norm, IMO.
  24. Played SS tonight for Texas. He turned a 6-3 DP and the ever so tough 3-6-1 DP. He played all 9 innings, after only 6 there in his career. He played 2 innings at SS as a Cub in 2005. Would have been nice to give him a legit shot there after Nomar got hurt.
  25. Wuertz isn't eligible. Nor is Guzman, Hill, Marmol or Mateo. What's the eligibility requirements? I believe we're going with having enough IP or PA in the minor leagues and not losing rookie eligibility in a previous season. Guzman, Hill, Marmol and Mateo don't have enough innings. But do they all have over 50 IP in the big leagues? Too lazy to look it up.
