    Tim makes a great point. If the 9th inning was fine w/ Weathers, as the stats show they were, then why not get a 7th inning guy, who would be much cheaper without the label of closer? And why is a team who's team ERA has been in the bottom 5 in the league 5 times in the last 8 years spending 11M/year to improve 1 inning at a time? The Reds starters haven't cracked a 4.5 ERA in this century. Contrary to popular belief, the best way to improve a bullpen is NOT to get the best relievers. It's to get better starters.

    I agree with all but this sentence. I know it wasn't the point of the post, though. I think when you take into account backloaded contracts and the fact that the players in 2010 will be 4 years older than they were when they signed that free agent contract, which usually happens around the mid-to-late prime years (28-32), then I doubt you see a bunch of future bargains. Sure Soriano may still be a 115+ player in 2010 and salaries may balloon to make his $20M/yr in the middle of the pack, but both are extremely unlikely and may or may not be worth the risk depending on other factors.

    IU offense didn't show up at all. When Crawford, Bassett, or Gordon had the ball everyone stopped and watched. Stemler and Ellis don't move well without the ball. DJ and Dre were soft in getting post position. And whichever guard didn't have the ball just stood there. Still a solid win. ISU is a decent team. Good defensively, can get scoring from a lot of different sources. Honestly, that was about what was to be expected from a team with all but 3 of their top 9 players taking their very first D1 shots outside of Bloomington. Figured they would struggle shooting, after spending the last 2 months in the same gym. Glad it was neutral, and not at the ISU campus. Inside players are gonna have to step up in order to beat Xavier. I look for them to put bigger players on EJ to try and shut him down. I'd hate to see Bassett out, or more importantly, Crawford for 40 erratic minutes at the point.

    According to one of his quotes, he said he would play wherever his new team wanted him to play. I think it was one of Olnys blogs. If he could drop 20-25 lbs. I think he could be a good LF'er. I'm not sure how strong or accurate his arm is though. If we could get him and keep Pie in Center..... \:D/ Well, he wouldn't be a LF with the Cubs. He would go to RF. And yes, his arm is good enough that he can play anywhere he wants.

    Hill, Murton, Colvin and Marmol, would probably get it done. The Marlins get 3 players that fit the cheap pre-arbitration criteria and that will be upgrades over what they have in 2008 and get a potential star prospect. Sure the Angels could give up Adenhart, Wood, Mathis, and Rivera, but will they? Sure the Dodgers could give up Kemp, Kershaw, and Broxton, but will they? Will the Giants give up Lincecum? That being said, I don't think the Cubs would give up that much, and I don't know that they should.

    For the record, GMJr is a better fielder than Torii. I'm thinking this may mean the Cabrera deal fell thru. I'd look for him to go to the Dodgers now.

    I'm pretty sure that team could win a national title this year. Two of the top 3 scorers in the nation. Beasley's the top rebounder and scorer so far. They combine for over 120 points per game.

    OJ Mayo > Eric Gordon and its not even close... On the college level, I disagree. Gordon is probably the slightly better player. As far as projectability to the NBA, Mayo is the better prospect because of his size, while the comparisons to Gordon as a "better Ben Gordon" is probably a good one. Gordon will likely always be a very good player but a tweener in the NBA while Mayo has the size and skills to be a superstar. Right now, Gordon's a lot more polished than Mayo is. Ben Gordon's a top 15 scorer in the league. A better version of him is a good player, tweener or not. Eric has a "NBA body". I think that will help him succeed at the next level. I think he can handle enough to play the point, but he won't be a guy a team looks for to distribute the ball and run the offense. He'll be a lot more Gilbert Arenas than Steve Nash if he has to play the point. Obviously, it's hard to project him to be the scorer that Arenas is, but it's not out of the question. A team with a point forward (like Odom is, Pippen and Grant Hill were, etc) would be the best situation for EJ, where he can play off the ball on offense, and still have the quickness to guard the point on defense. Mayo's a better pro prospect though. He's probably my favorite of the Frosh class.

    Yeah, yesterday they were just going thru the motions. It would have been nice to schedule your first tough game at home. But it's not like the 3 games in Illinois are super far, and 2 are neutral sites. Though, Southern will be tough at home.

    I still like Andruw. Those projections would be about .030 off of his career power numbers. He's a guy I would imagine would love to hit in Wrigley. His defense is severely overrated at this point, as he's not the fielder that Crisp and Tavares are. And guys like Rowand, Beltran, and Matthews are pretty close if not better.

    Who should I start at RB this week? Ron Dayne vs. the Cleveland Browns or Maurice Morris vs. the St. Louis Rams Browns suck against the run. Rams are better and have been better recently. Morris has exactly 18 points the last 2 weeks. Dayne has an 18 and a 14 in the last 2. Dayne I already have. Morris is a free agent, that I'll likely have to bid big to win. *I'd like to add, for anyone thinking my RB situation sucks....this is for the starter opposite LT and in place of the injured, Marshawn Lynch. My team is also 10-1 and leads the league in scoring. *

    Leaving the Cubs with a rotation of Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster, Marquis and Willis? I'm confused by raw's post. Are you advocating making a Hill for Hudson & Lyon deal? Because I think that would be a terrible move. Sorry, I can see how it could be confusing. Two independent thoughts. I would not in a million years do that deal for Hudson. I was just pointing out the deal, because it was like on page 3. I would take the Tejada deal and go after Willis. Making the rotation, Zambrano, Lilly, Willis, Hill, Marquis/Dempster.

    Anybody see the Orlando Hudson and Brandon Lyon for Rich Hill trade on page 3? If it was affordable, I would take the Tejada deal and then try to match the weak offers for Dontrelle.

    Believe me, I think IU is going to be good, but the way Raw puts it in his posts is pretty comical right now. Maybe you need to find something better to do with your time, then than criticizing my posts. Grow the hell up. Don't like it. Don't read.

    Five preseason games and 1 regular season game, before IU looked in midseason form. I know it was against Longwood, but an easy 100-49 win. Not too many complaints from me. 6 players in double figures, 9 players played over 14 minutes. EJ with 21 points. Crawford with 16. DJ with 12 points on only 5 shot attempts. IU outrebounded a pretty lengthy Longwood team by 13. And held them to just 19 second half points. And less than 26% from the field. 47 points in the paint, with their post players only getting 12 of those. Guards were able to get to the rim with ease. Eric Gordon keeps setting records. 54 points in his 1st 2 games is a school record. Only bad news, is he has to score 37 next game to continue that record.

    My love of Milton Bradley has been well documented. Luke Scott's a good option. I like him a lot. I also like Church. Carlos Quentin could be very interesting. Seth Smith is definitely interesting. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to going after a SS (Tejada) and going w/ one or 2 of these cheap options in the OF.

    Great things about that boxscore. -VMI- 114 shots from the field, Wesleyan- 64 (that's 50 more shots than your opponent!) -VMI- 30 offensive rebounds! -VMI- 26 steals. -11 VMI players played 10+ minutes, and 1 more played 9. -Williams for VMI scored 38 points in 20 minutes. Put up 27 shots in 20 minutes. -135 points may be the most ever scored by a team that made just 8 free throws. Meaning, they scored most of their points with the clock running. And 13 threes isn't a huge number by any means.

    As I said earlier in this thread, North Carolina will NOT be a final 4 team. Not because they almost lost to Davidson. It's because they will have the same probably all year that they had tonight. UNCs players over 6'5" NOT named Tyler Hansbrough combined to go 2-6 for 4 points, and 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. Hansbrough is prone to foul trouble, and their guards aren't good enough scorers to keep up with good teams when he's not on the floor.

    What minor league OF do the Cubs have besides Colvin (who isn't going anywhere)? I've been trying to think of what else the Rays have that could interest the Cubs to make Hill and others worthwhile. Can't really think of anything.
