  1. Chone Figgins is one of my least favorite players in the game. In an ironic twist, he's also one of the least productive.
  2. Want to a pay a short reliever a lot of money, give it to Kerry Wood. And I actually like Nathan, and don't want Kerry back....so, that's saying something.
  3. Exactly. Howry, Wood, Dempster, Eyre....all money that could be better spent elsewhere. That would be a $20M pen. That money would be better served on offense (AROD) and the Cubs could make due with Wuertz and Marmol being the main bullpen contributors.
  4. Man, a lot of those guys saw significant ML time this year. Colvin is miles behind most of that list as far as "ready for the majors" goes. He may be 1 of 3-4 of that list who isn't on an opening day roster.
  5. Add Zito and they could easily have one of the top rotations in the game. Pitching is very important. Add Arod, and they aren't as far as people think. They don't have much else offensively, but they will probably have the most money to spend. We will see if Arod runs for the money again, like he did when he went to Texas.
  6. If your league counts receptions....take offer 1. If not, take offer 1 in a heartbeat and consider offer 2.
  7. I think the Giants are among the favorites. The White Sox will make a run at him too, I guess, though they just re-signed all of their last place team so may not be able to afford it. If I had to rank a top 5, besides the Yankees: 1. Giants 2. Angels 3. Cubs 4. Boston 5. Mariners
  8. In all fairness, they got the 6th best NL OPS out of RF this year. Granted, teams 6-10 were all closely bunched, but the Cubs biggest holes were SS, C and CF. If they can get an impact RF, I'm all for it. Yeah, I know the 2007 stats. I was talking about looking ahead to 2008. I think Jones and/or Pie can outproduce CF from this past season (Pie improvement, Jacque in a FA year starting the season on time, no Pagan) and leave RF as the hole, with no Floyd and Murton probably on the bench. Well yeah, of course RF is going to be a hole if you don't have anyone starting there... Well, it's either nobody or Jacque Jones, which may or may not be the same thing.
  9. I agree with the sentiment in this thread. The team improved. Didn't have the personnel to do much better than they actually did. I'd like to see a lot of work put in with Felix Pie this offseason and in the spring.
  10. Andruw shouldn't. He's a good player. He's put up a 121 or better OPS+ in 4 of the last 6 years, including his horrible 2007. The other year (2004) his OPS+ was 113. He's still only 30, so it's not even close to being out of the realm that he could produce like his 2005-06 seasons, which would make him the best offensive player on the current Cubs team. If you don't want to sign him because he'll probably get a Soriano-like contract that will bite a team in the rear near the end of it, then I understand, but to lump him in with Hunter, who is severely inferior, is wrong.

  12. Some random thoughts: I'm hearing when Lillibridge is ready, the Braves could go with Escobar at 2B, moving Kelly Johnson back to the OF. I think Lowrie will end up at 2B. I would trade for any of those names, just to have someone else to throw in the mix. Hanley Ramirez is possibly the best player in the NL right now. I don't see him being traded at all. Miguel Cabrera is more likely because of his girth. RF is a bigger hole than SS. The Cubs have been getting middle IF like production for what is supposed to be a big time offensive position. Get a slightly above league avg RF and you can hide the SS in the 8-hole if Soto and Pie/Jones hit like they can/should.
  13. Gotta go with what got you there.
  14. When was the most recent of those 33 plate appearances? Those are probably all Pittsburgh numbers. Kendall Vs. 15. should bench Soriano and start Ward and Floyd.

  17. Lou: "Offense needs to hit better, so I'm taking out the best hitter I've had for the last 3 weeks for tomorrow's game."
  18. Blanton's interesting. I was wondering who would be a good option to put in the rotation should the Cubs trade away a bunch of young arms for offense.
  19. Hendry hasn't shown to be big on non-tendering or DFA'ing.
  20. better be 100%. But I'd say they are pretty good, at least.
  21. Which SS prospect are you talking about? Isn't Hu going to be moved to 2b? I hadn't heard that...they have Kent under contract for next season. Yeah, that's news to me. I think they were toying with it, but they like Abreu (I think) at 2B if Kent goes elsewhere, rumors is Kent will request a trade or just retire.
  22. Interesting name that could be available at SS, is Rafael Furcal. Dodgers have a great young SS prospect who will be ready in the near future.
  23. My thinking is that Blanco could retire. His career may be done, and I'd have to imagine he won't get much PT next year. And his injuries are starting to mount. I'd settle for Koyie Hill as a backup (to Soto) next year if it meant Blanco retired or was DFA'd and Kendall was elsewhere.
  24. Renteria can be had. No reason he shouldn't be had by the Cubs. I like this option better than Tejada, and it's much more likely than ARod or Carlos Guillen. In RF, I want Brad Hawpe. Unfortunately, with the Rockies success, I think they may stand pat and trade some of their great blocked bats (Stewart, Koshansky, Baker) for some more pitching.
