  1. It would take Jose Reyes and then Soriano would just move to #2. I actually don't mind Soriano at leadoff.......IF -the Cubs get a legit #5 hitter -the Cubs get a legit #6 hitter (Soto could be decent here) -the Cubs use Derosa (a legit #2 hitter) in the 2nd spot
  2. I will admit, I wanted Kendall signed as insurance for Soto. But he's done. Soto's gonna be the starter. Blanco can back up, I don't care. Soto should catch 120 provided he's healthy next year.
  3. That was the worst pitched game I've even seen a winning pitcher throw. Davis had nothing, and it didn't even matter.
  4. On a scale of 1 to 10, that game was a 0. :D I love that joke, hilarious? Am I right? Wait, did I do that joke wrong? Or is it right? I don't even know anymore.
  5. Are you saying you would like to trade Sizemore to me? Yep, as soon as you trade for Arod or Pujols.
  6. I'd have to imagine he's about 22 or so. Can't justify him being much lower.
  7. Yeah, I thought it was a coin flip too. I only like Z's chances because he'll be against Owings, who isn't anything special, and the Cubs hit him well 2x this year.
  8. I don't understand how you can say Lee's ball wasn't hit well. Theriot's, definitely. I agree with the Ramirez fly ball comments. I think people are more talking about the line drives. Z's line drive, Floyd's two line drives, Soriano's liner. The Cubs had at least 6 line drives last night, and only 2 of them dropped down for hits. That isn't very good luck, even if you take out the Ramirez fly balls, the Soto ground ball, and the Jones grounder. Lee's was hit solidly, but still it was a GB. If a ball is pulled on the ground, you have to assume it's gonna be fielded more times than not, which was my point, but I understand I didn't make that clear. Soriano's liner was to straight away CF. Floyd hit 2 to straight away RF. That's where the fielders are normally positioned. Z's I thought was gonna be out, because I thought it was hit lower, but that definitely could have easily been a hit. I just don't think it was as much luck as people are tyring to say it is.
  9. The Cubs did hit the ball hard a few times, but I don't see how you could consider ground balls by Soto and Jones to be tough breaks. They're groundballs. Webb's a GB pitcher, that's what he does. If you make those hits, well, you might as well take away Lee and Theriot's hits because they weren't hit that well and found the right spots. Ramirez hit the ball well, but if a RH hitter hits it in the air to the opposite field in AZ, he better really get a hold of it. Ramirez didn't. Webb pitched to his park. There was not a hardhit ball other than Floyd's that when it was hit I thought it would drop.
  10. Yes! Lou managed a terrible game last night. He really did. I don't agree with pinch-hitting there. There were 2 outs. Still need a big 2-out hit. Webb had control issues in the inning, but I think it was more of a case of pitching around Derosa and Soto. Granted, I would have thrown Z 1 more inning, but I hate wasting PH w/ 2 outs. Chances to score aren't that great even w/ the bases loaded.
  11. Why put Wood in? I understand he's pitched well lately, but Marmol has pitched well all year. His role all year has been as a 7th inning pitcher in close games. How can anyone justify changing his role this late in the season, when it has been so successful? He was gonna get into a close game this series, regardless. He was gonna be nervous either way. Might as well get it out of the way early. I probably would have thrown Zambrano 1 more inning, but I had no problem with him bringing in Marmol. If had a bet, I would have placed it on Marmol having a scoreless 7th over Z.
  12. I thought Zambrano outpitched Webb for the most part. But both were about as good as you could expect. Zambrano made literally 1 mistake all night (to Drew). Webb got away with a handful of mistakes, but dominated when the Cubs were threatening. His 3rd inning, after the Zambrano double was probably the best I've seen a pitcher throw this year. He simply beared down and made fools of Soriano, Jones and Lee. I thought Geo was starting to get a good look at him, but Webb pitched around him in the 6th, when I thought he could have done a lot of damage. Lee and Ramirez looked like they were starting to get a good feel against him in their 3rd ABs. I like their chances if they see him again this series.
  13. No, we lost last night because our hitters couldn't hit Webb....no big surprise from me. I was hoping that somehow we could pull it out, but in my heart I knew the Cubs would look like little girls at the plate....and little girls they did look like. Hopefully, tonight we'll look like men. Actually had a lot of good swings against him. None fell in. I thought the approach was ok, other than the inning of the Zambrano double. Also, did anyone think after Theriot reached 2B on the error, that the Cubs should have bunt w/ Zambrano? Granted he had the hardest hit ball to that point and hit it hard again, but if he puts a bunt down, Soriano's line drive to CF, probably scores Theriot.
  14. Excellent diary. I look forward to a happier ending to the next few.
  15. What if the Cubs actually win in that dream? Bullpen would be screwed, but a win's a win.
  16. I had a dream that black and white, Jew and Gentile, Protestant and Catholic Cubs fans around the world got together to sing that ol' Negro spiritual. Free at last! Free at last! Thank God almighty, we're free at last......from the goat!
  17. I was planning on staying up, but I don't think I'm gonna make it. I got the worst sinus headache right now. I'm about to pass out at work.
  18. Pretty much what UK was saying on Webb. Pretty much what I was saying about Zambrano. I do disagree that Zambrano should throw offspeed stuff when ahead in the count. I think he should force guys like Young, Snyder, and Reynolds to hit a fastball away. Byrnes you can throw the slider to and he will chase. The LH hitters for both teams will be the key.
  19. DeRosa should hit #2. With Soto in the lineup, no reason NOT to hit Theriot 8th. I can understand some with Kendall in the lineup, but he shouldn't be in the lineup, so that's another issue.
  20. Yeah, 1990s Maddux, and not a very poor-man's version.
  21. That is about my bowling ability too, ........the breaking 200 bit. Yeah, before the 200, I put up 190s about 7 straight times. Sucked. Since then, I haven't gotten more than about 175. Haven't bowled in years though.
  22. That's probably a good move. Clark and Salazar are a couple of guys that could give Z some trouble. I think if Zambrano's on, he won't have much problem with anyone else in that lineup.
  23. Fontenot would be an interesting start tonight. Unfortunately, it would have to come at the expense of DeRosa, which I don't want him sitting. I wish DeRosa could play a good enough SS to be put there in matchups like this with a tough RH on the mound.
  24. As a Grady Sizemore fantasy owner, I was a little disappointed in his 2007 season. I thought he would take the final step to superstardom this year, but he didn't. I say, Sizemore has an amazing series and becomes a household name with the Indians taking the Yankees to 5 games.....but losing despite Grady's heroics. As for ARod. I dont' know what's best. If he has a huge series and the Yanks win it all, he may opt out just because his value would be thru the roof. If they lose and he doesn't do anything, then he probably gets run out of town. As long as there's not a happy medium, I think ARod becomes a free agent (biggest oxymoron ever).
  25. I don't if they'll dominate but, they'll win the series. The Phillies are little more consistent on the road as a result, they've got a pretty good chance at getting one in Colorado. True, the Rockies pitching has improved but, the fact remains they're still a team that' awesome in Colorado and not so on the road: Home: .298,.372,.480 BA,OBP,SLP Road: .261,.336,.395 Compared to the Phillies splits: Home: .280,.357,.475 BA,OBP,SLP Road: .268,.350,.442 Lord, the Rockies are almost hitting for no power on the road.
