  1. So when Ohio State pounds Penn State in The Shoe, we will be added to that list? i see that the usc asswhipping and repeated embarrassments at the hands of the sec haven't made ohio state fans any less arrogant. That's not really arrogant. No more arrogant than pointing out OSU's losses to other teams, when Penn St. has gotten beat down 65-23 in the last 2 years against the same OSU teams you make fun of.
  2. I just looked at last year's postseason stats. Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano were a combined 2 for 26, with 2 walks. Ramirez was 0-12, with just 1 walk and 5 Ks. They owe us.
  3. That was James Micah Hoffpauir's first career HR, and comes off a Hall of Famer. Congrats.
  4. Pedro kinda sucks now. Does he even get a playoff start at this point? Even if Santana has to pitch to end the season, the Mets can go Pelfrey, Perez, Santana, Pelfrey, Perez. John Maine could even be thrown in at some point, he's a better option than Pedro, even without pitching this month.
  5. A lot of sites are mentioning the Tigers trading Ordonez, so I'm sure they're not going to trade Granderson too. Who would take Magglio? They aren't going to get a lot of value for him, and he's due $18Mil next year w/ a 3Mil option. For Granderson, they can possibly do something about that horrible pitching staff they have.
  6. Think Lou would put the vet Edmonds in LF? I think you'll see Ward in at 1B around the 5th anyway w/ Micah going to LF and Pie to CF.
  7. F. Pie lf R. Theriot ss M. Hoffpauir 1b J. Edmonds cf M. Fontenot 2b C. McGehee 3b K. Fukudome rf K. Hill c R. Harden p NY Mets J. Reyes ss D. Murphy lf D. Wright 3b C. Delgado 1b C. Beltran cf R. Church rf R. Martinez 2b R. Cancel c P. Martinez p Cubs will still win 6-2.
  8. Again, if you drafted a player in the 1st 2 rounds and he is not 100% injured, DON'T SIT HIM! There's a reason you drafted him that high, it's because he's a really good player. If when you are drafting you can foresee a non-injury or bye situation where you don't start that player....you probably shouldn't draft him. There are exceptions like perhaps drafting a guy like Ryan Grant in the 2nd and having Matt Forte or somebody from the 5th round. But those are few and far between.
  9. Not only all played in the majors, but the top 7 and Olson have played at a very high level at points in their careers.
  10. No reason the game shouldn't be moved up to anytime between a 12-3pm start.
  11. Mendenhall will start w/ Parker out this week, though it is against Baltimore, I'd probably still go with him. And definitely go with Bowe in all occassions. I'd start Ryan at QB, don't know why, just a hunch really.
  12. Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Rich Harden, Carlos Zambrano, Carlos Marmol, Matt Clement, Ryan Dempster Ted Lilly, Rich Hill Little of this explains how, say, the 2006 Cubs still led the league in Ks. We gave Juan Mateo starts that year and had MadDog in the rotaiton for 4 months. That team had 14 pitchers that threw 15 innings or more and struck out at least 8 men per 9 innings. Some interesting names among them. Scott Williamson, Les Walrond, Will Ohman, David Aardsma, Jae Kuk Ryu, Wade Miller and even Glendon F Rusch. Prior and Wood didn't pitch much that year, but both had low K rates when they did. Strangely, Maddux and Marshall threw the 2nd and 3rd most innings on that team and both struck out in the 5's per 9.
  13. Two things the Bears have typically struggled against. Small, quick WRs and mobile QBs. If they can't get a pass rush, Tillman, Manning, and Vasher won't be able to stay with the Philly WRs.
  14. I was in college, and I believe I had just gotten back from class. I remember being upset, but not as upset as I probably should have been. That was an amazing season for Sammy's HR chase and the Wood 20K game. I didn't follow the Cubs very close from 94-97, my first 4 years in college. Apparantly I didn't miss much as they were about 50 games under .500 for that span.
  15. Cain has a few years before he would be a free agent. Keep him thru his arbitration years, get to the playoffs a couple times and things can change in a hurry. Granted, they very well could end up 3rd in the west this year, its a smidge bullish to think they could get into the playoffs twice in the next three years. Yes, the Padres are probably going to be a doormat until they get a new owner (perhaps a single dude?) and yes the Giants are in the early stages of their youth movement, but they are still going to finish this year allowing over 100 more runs than they've scored (currently tied for worst in their division). Their winning percentage is under .400 in games Lincecum doesn't pitch. Arizona and Colorado are at a more mature stage in their youth movement as are the Dodgers (thanks to Logan White) despite front office ineptitude (which is counter balanced by loads of money). And speaking of front office ineptitude, all signs point to Brian Sabean being retained as the GM. That paints a bleak but accurate picture for the Giants near future. I was talking about the Brewers getting into the playoffs if they got Cain, thus making it easier to afford him.
  16. 3-0! Eeked out a win this week, but I'll take it.
  17. I don't know if this was mentioned, but Brian Westbrook is likely out this week.
  18. Javon Walker and Greg Jennings. Both have killed me in games against what I thought would be tough pass defenses against them. I faced a team that had Walker in his 3 TD, 800 yard receiving game vs. Pittsburgh a few years back. Jennings did it a couple times last year. Walker even did it in Green Bay before he got hurt, probably against the Bears.
  19. Cain has a few years before he would be a free agent. Keep him thru his arbitration years, get to the playoffs a couple times and things can change in a hurry.
  20. The Dodgers have won 16 of 21. They are this year's version of the Rockies to me. They seem to be the team getting hot at the right time. Lowe's ERA is 2.69 since the break. Kuroda's under 2.50 since August 1. Billingsley has been consistently with pretty even with splits home/road and by the month. Manny's been about a 1.3 OPS hitter in the NL. LA is a dangerous team to me.
  21. Yeah, I'm surprised Rundle didn't sneak in there at 18-20. My guess is if the list was expanded that Rundle would be one of the next 3 names.
  22. I dread the Cubs facing Manny Ramirez in any series at any time.
  23. I'd sit the regulars again today, because there's little shot they see Niese in the playoffs. Probably go w/ the same lineup as yesterday and again on Thursday. Tues and Wed vs. Santana and Perez, I'd like to see the regular lineup vs. lefties for at least 3 ABs each. Start pulling them after 6. I don't really worry about the Cubs starters not seeing Pedro on Thursday. He probably wouldn't go til Game 4 anyway, if at all, and he's not very good anymore.
  24. I hope we hear that crappy song several times next month.
  25. Scrubs Win! That was a weird OF bump at the end with Hoffpauir, Pie and Fukudome.
