  1. ND should have had a shot to win that one. The WR was down. The ball moved around because he was trying to lateral. He lateraled the ball after his head and shoulders hit the ground.
  2. The situation at 2B this year, was as close to perfect as it could get. The Cubs got a line of .300/.378/.458 out of 2B this year. I really don't want to mess that up. The best way to improve that is not putting Fontenot there full-time and Derosa in RF full-time. It would probably be to get Ronny Cedeno out of the equation and let Derosa start there vs. all LHPs. Of course, for this to be done, the Cubs probably have to get a pretty solid OF that can play everyday in CF or RF. That means you can put Reed Johnson in whatever spot Fukudome holds next year and keep Derosa at 2B vs. LHPs. There will still be plenty of ABs for Derosa between injuries in the OF and getting him some more time at SS to rest Theriot.
  3. Assuming Delgado's team option is picked up, the Mets have about 75Mil tied into Santana, Beltran, Delgado, Wright, Reyes, Castillo and Scheneider. Their payroll was already approaching $140M. They would still need at least 2 bullpen arms, a 2B, and are looking a potential OF of Church and David Murphy on the corners. The recent trade rumor is Beltran to the Yankees for Cano, Veras or Bruney (RP), Kennedy, and a prospect. If that is what the Mets are looking for, can the Cubs top that? The incentive to trade Beltran, I'd imagine, would be to open up money for 2 FA signings to fill a couple of their holes. That could be D.Lowe/KRod, Sheets/O. Hudson, or a big splash like Teixeira (then moving Delgado), Manny or CC. The caution is they don't have much else for CF unless they think Martinez is ready. Beltran is owed $55.5 Mil over the next 3 years. Would a Cubs package of Derosa or Fontenot, Hill or Marshall, Gaudin and a prospect be enough? Gives them a good 2B, a 5th starter, and a relief arm, which they are getting in the Yanks trade scenario, but the 2B would be better in the Cubs package. Would the Mets be interested in Felix Pie? What about Ted Lilly or Jason Marquis to plug into the rotation? Would the Cubs be willing to trade Marmol?
  4. So yeah, everything that could go wrong this week has for one of my teams. Boldin's already out w/ a broken face. Roddy White ran into a teammate in practice and hasn't been on the field since Wednesday, he's questionable. Kellen Winslow's herpes flared up or something and he's been hospitalized, he's questionable. Now I gotta decide on 2 people for 2 spots at WR and Flex WR/TE. White, Winslow, Chad Johnson, Owen Daniels, Domenik Hixon, and Greg Camarillo. It's sad when Steve Breaston is my only solid start among my WRs. So, name me 2 starters from that mess.
  5. Edgar Renteria comes to mind. As does Khalil Greene and Felipe Lopez. Nick Swisher. A guy who may be made available who you are not hearing about is Michael Young. He had a worst OPS than Ryan Theriot this year. But his walk rate was tied for the best for his career. 2008 was the first year in 5 that he hit under .313. He kills LHPs. He's not super old, but past his prime now. He'd be interesting. I don't know that he's a buy low guy, but he could potentially be a high reward.
  6. I am officially afraid of this game. Bears are 2-1 on the road, but Atlanta's at least a decent team at home. It would be one thing if it was a natural surface, but this game is indoors which you never know what can happen in unfamiliar territory. Hopefully, Forte will be able to find some more holes this week. Gonna need a strong running game. ATL has the potential to run the ball, thus put the Bears D on the field for a long time.
  7. You need WR help. Harrison and Holt have been horrible this year. Steve Smith missed 2 games due to suspension. It's not surprising you're 0-4-1. I'd want him to add more, you are giving up a top RB and a top QB, don't devalue Eli just because he's your backup. But you should be interested in LJ and Williams. I would either try for a better WR or get him to give up both Williams and Ocho.
  8. I wouldn't want to be President, but I would like to hold any other office in the country. At one point, I was going to get into politics, but I decided against it.
  9. Part of me wants the Dodgers to win it all in 11 straight games, just so I can make myself believe that the Cubs would have beaten anyone but them. But the majority of me can't handle Manny vs. the Red Sox (who I know will beat the Rays, simply because I don't want them to).
  10. I wish this team was better.
  11. Sammy Sosa, Michael Barrett, Jacque Jones all are answers to your 1st question. They were all disgruntled though.
  12. Ryan Theriot got on base consistently in front of the 3-4-5 spots. Whoever hit at the bottom of the lineup (7-8 spots and Zambrano when he pitched) did also. The Cubs don't need anything offensively. The offense will still be good enough next year to win several games. But that shouldn't stop them from doing something. The goal should be to get better. The key is deciding how to get better and by how much. I personally feel the Cubs can get "more" better than Brian Roberts.
  13. but if you arent going to keep tulo and you DO draft webb 1st overall, wouldnt the trade be better? that way you're getting webb and the 9th, instead of losing tulo and then drafting webb? maybe im not thinking clearly True. Makes sense. So, what do you think? Assuming the top 50 players are gone.
  14. Off topic, kinda....but I never got this phrase. One man's trash is NOT another man's treasure. The phrase should go, "one man's trash is what another man takes and refuses to admit is trash".
  15. Greg Jennings leads the league in reception yards. Start him every game. I'd probably go w/ Plax over Braylon too. Based on the team's they are facing (each other actually) and Plaxico's desire to show his team how important he is by putting up a big game.
  16. How far west are we talking? All the way. I'm outside of Pittsburgh near the WV border.
  17. Part of the reason those teams are near the bottom in run D is because they've played Atlanta. Don't discount ATL's run game because of the defenses they have played. Granted, it has a lot to do with it, but Atlanta has year-in and year-out been one of the top running teams. A lot of it had to do with Vick, but Jerious Norwood had a couple seasons of the highest YPC. Dunn had several good seasons there. Hell, Jamal Anderson was a star in Atlanta at one time. There have been a lot of coaching changes there, but the Falcons have always run the ball well for whatever reason.
  18. Sucks that the Vikes are back in the NFC North and got throughly outplayed in all 3 phases last night.
  19. Can't open the map at work. Can someone tell me what game western PA will get? Got the feeling it's going to be the Skins.
  20. 10 teams, 5 keepers, plus the abililty to keep your picks in the last 2 rounds if they have remained on your roster all year. I think there's a shot the guy might not keep Webb. So, I could conceivably get him with the 1st pick.
  21. Yes, Abreu was one a great OF. He's pretty crappy now. But if needed, the Cubs have plenty of defensive replacements if necessary (Pie, Johnson, Fukudome).
  22. I'm torn. On one hand, this was the best team in the majors from Game 1 of the season to Game 153, when they clinched. You don't change that. For every thought that Derosa, Theriot, and Edmonds will decline, is a thought that Soriano, Ramirez, Fukudome and Soto could still improve on their 2008 seasons. On the other hand, the Cubs have 2 straight division championships, and 2 straight times they've been playing golf within a week of the Pirates. They won 97 games, and that wasn't enough. There's not really much more the Cubs can do in the regular season. And if they do less in the regular season, they have the 3rd best team in the NL in their division along with 2 other teams not that far behind in the event of a slip-up. Whatever the Cubs do, they have to do it wholeheartedly. I think they went all out this year. Tapping into Japan for Fukudome. Going after Harden. What's next? Is there another big bat out there that can help them while allowing them to keep their core in tact? Is there another top arm that will stabilize the rotation and prepare them for a short series? Will it even matter?
  23. In a roto style keeper league. Lots of categories: R, HR, RBI, SB, K, BA, OBP, SLG for hitters. W, L, SV, K, WHIP, ERA, CG, Holds for pitchers. Well, I have been offered Brandon Webb and the 9th overall pick for Troy Tulowitzki and the #1 pick (yes, I finished last). Should I do the trade? I have Hanley as my keeper for SS, so I probably wouldn't be keeping Tulo anyway, but the #1 pick is pretty valuable. I'm leaning toward no, just let me know I'm not crazy for passing this up.
  24. At this point, I hope the Cubs get a leadoff hitter just so they'll shut up about it and Soriano will be elsewhere in the lineup. Furcal and Teixeira are the guys I would love. Milton Bradley and Bobby Abreu would be interesting for 1-2 year deals. Either of those guys or Teixeira could play RF, w/ Fukudome, Reed, Pie in CF and for defensive replacements. Vlad and Crawford aren't going anywhere. Not sure that I'd be all that interested in Crawford. Furcal and Teixeira probably aren't realistic though, as the Cubs love Theriot and aren't creative enough to put Tex in RF. Of the realistic options, I'd love to go after DeJesus and Greinke from KC. Then Abreu should be somewhat cheap in RF. If the Cubs want a LH in the middle of the order, for the sake of having a LH in the middle of the order, Abreu's a decent bet. Kosuke can get plenty of PT between injuries (Soriano) and days off.
  25. Atlanta's a really young team. I really like the defensive talent on the team, though they haven't amounted to much yet. I'm really looking forward to the Tillman v. Roddy White matchup. Could see a lot of them 1-on-1, as I expect the Bears to put 8 in the box on run downs and bring extra blitzers on 2nd and 3rd and long. For a team everyone knows will run and has a rookie QB, the Falcons have the league's leading rusher and have only allowed 7 sacks. So, the gameplan is going to be alot easier said than done. On offense, the Falcons have 9 sacks. SEVEN of them from John Abraham, who will be matched up with John St. Clair. I expect a ton of help all day from Dez Clark. Abraham is in a position to disrupt the entire Bears offense, and is the only player on that defense that can beat you. This is not going to be an easy game on the road.
