  1. If the Bears are going DT, I think they could still have their pick of the top 4 at some point in the early 20s. Unless they have a really strong combine, I don't see any of Nix, Jernigan, Hageman, or Donald as top 20 prospects. But all are between 20-30 for me, personally.
  2. His contract buy-out remains huge. So, for practical purposes, I'm not sure it matters. But things could become very difficult for him next year fan-base wise (and next year figures to be worse, in my opinion, considering Vonleh will be an early entry and the frontcourt will be basically vacant). I think that's the biggest problem--this year was always going to be a rebuilding type year, but without a frontcourt there's nothing being built towards. Who knew that recruiting might become the issue? I actually don't see them being much worse next year. They aren't very good this year. And I can see a huge improvement from a couple guys (mainly Troy Williams). Still won't be a good enough team, though.
  3. Those 4 DTs are the common names that come up. Donald and Jernigan are guys that look like only 3-techniques due to size. Nix could play either scheme, but looks like a NT in either scheme and not much of a pass rusher. Hageman looks like he could play several positions in either 3-4 or 4-3, but he's also very raw, the rawest of the group. Basically, if the Bears are thinking DT in the 1st, all 4 will likely be on the board at 14. I'd try to trade down and pick up an extra pick. I'm leaning Nix or Hageman at this poiint, but it would be sweet to get one of them in the early 20s and get an extra pick. If staying at 14, I'd prefer Kony Ealy if he's there...and probably stay at 14 if he's on the board. Trading down also opens up the potential S (Pryor, Dix) pick also. Don't know that I'd pick a CB with such a deep class.
  4. Me either. But I've always put him around 15 in my head (he was my 3rd vote last time). So, 16-20 range wouldn't be bad for him. But I've been convinced on Black, so he's my 16, with Jimenez and Contreras after.
  5. Sweden looks like a legit gold medal threat.
  6. Yeah, Flutie is the one I always come back to when looking for a comp for Manziel. I think he can successful unlike Flutie because of the nature's of today's passing offenses. But Jeff Garcia isn't bad either. Garcia was always underrated with his mobility. I think Garcia and Manziel are guys that are probably better when the play isn't a traditional, drop back and throw on 3-5 steps. But when they have to step up or move around in the pocket. Romo is better in those situations too, but he can move the ball in a traditional way also. The inch and a half he has over Manziel is a big deal.
  7. Willing to trade. I'm over based on who's on my roster now. Will trade points or take on points and cut someone.
  8. I U about to take the worst loss on school history. Haven't been able to inbound the ball for 3 minutes.
  9. Yes please!
  10. What's the reasoning for Black over Pineyro? I think last time I ranked, I had them back-to-back, so obviously I don't see a big difference, but I had Pineyro ahead and the votes are heavily in Black's favor right now.
  11. I think Barr is more likely to be a Clay Matthews type of player. Yep, both have far less diverse skill sets than Mack. I do think Barr is more athletic and better in coverage than Matthews. There are whispers that Barr could drop on draft day. Biggest issue seems to be 1-trick pony (like Matthews was coming out, but improved) and the possibility that he doesn't completely dominate all drills at the combine. What are your thoughts on drafting him at 14? I've thought he'd be a guy I'd throw away my draft board for and find a place to fit in the defense. But now not so sure. Interested to get your thoughts as a UCLA guy.
  12. I think Barr is more likely to be a Clay Matthews type of player.
  13. I'd have Lake in the 11-15 range. Of course, I think he's better than our collective 11 and 12.
  14. The Steelers have had 3 coaches in the last 45 years. The Browns have had 3 coaches AND 3 GMs in the last 407 days.
  15. What's that positive press worth? How much have ayanbendejo and kluwe made off their support? I could see an agent reminding his guy to not say anything dumb, but simply being the guy who vocally supported the gay player probably is not actually worth much (from a non human decency standpoint) unless he plans to run for office as a democrat. i think it's one thing for a punter to be like "GAYS ARE OK GUYS" but now that there's a specific person who people are wondering how he'll fit into a locker room, i would think being the guy on defense that's first to come out fully in support would get your ass on TV for a week or so. I think it depends on the situation like you said. A punter or reserve LB/special teamer showing support doesn't do much. But a lockerroom leader that plays and practices with Sam could benefit a lot from showing support. Granted, it would probably take an already well known player, but the supporting player could be the Pee Wee Reese to Sam's Jackie Robinson.
  16. Kansas City most recently. I read that Kim's title was "pass rush development specialist". Cool that he's working with everyone (Kyle Long already does martial arts training). It's a pretty useful skill for all positions, other than QB, I guess.
  17. Yeah, all the talk about "how will at effect his draft stock" is cracking me up, considering the first story I saw last night said "possible first rounder" and now it's "projected third to fifth rounder" He was never a first rounder and once you get past the first (and maybe second rounders), it's especially tough to get a consensus on where a guy should be drafted for a whole host of reasons. Yeah, the reports from Senior Week weren't glowing: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000316426/article/missouris-michael-sam-struggles-as-linebacker-at-senior-bowl. And here's a "pre-announcement" summary of his stock from various places: Kiper: fourth rounder DraftTek: third round (#81 overall on their big board) McShay: third to fifth Yeah, 3-5 is about right. A bit of a tweener. Not athletic enough to drop into coverage as a LB. Not big enough to be a base DE in 4-3. Has value as a pass rusher though. Co-SEC defensive player of the year. The last 6 guys to win that award all went top 25.
  18. I personally don't think Emery wants the media circus that may come with drafting Sam. He doesn't want the team on Hard Knocks. He cut one of his own draft picks that brought negative attention to the team. I don't think he'd pass on a great value though, so it'll be interesting.
  19. I think Sam has the potential to be a Tebow/Te'o type of distraction. Moreso like Te'o. I could see Sam having a press conference at the combine to answer any questions and then it should be a non-factor by training camp. Some players will tease him in camp, but it seems like he won't completely wuss out at the teasing like Jon Martin. I had him as about a 4th round pick, if he goes any lower than the 5th, it's because of his sexuality. I guarantee there will be teams that completely takes him off their board because of this. But I'd imagine he'll get drafted. He's easily one of the top 270 or however many players that get drafted. I will say any money he might have lost by coming out, he'll make up easily with endorsements, especially the longer he stays in the league and more he produces. It's complete [expletive] that this is even an issue. But the timing is perfect for Sam. Teams can process it before the combine. He can address it in interviews instead of being asked about it by teams in private meetings and then having to either come out on their terms or flat out lie about it. Gives it time to die down by camp. Not that he needs my support, but I fully support Michael Sam and hope he has a long NFL career. I think the game and professional sports needs this. It's about time for this stupidity to end. Maybe he gets others to come out. Maybe he gets others to stop being ignorant about his lifestyle. Either way, I look forward to the positive coming out of this situation.
  20. Would rather have Roby or SJB than Purifoy in that situation. Also, I wonder if Pryor ends up going ahead of HaHa. Agree. Rather have those other 2 CBs over Purifoy. I like Purifoy, but those guys are clearly better, imo. And i'd easily take Pryor over Haha. To me, Pryor can do everything Dix can do in the deep middle of the field (maybe not as fast) but can also play the Kam Chancellor role and just fly all over the underneath part of the field and legally hit people. Dix is not a safety you want in the box (pun).
  21. As Tim and TT both alluded to as well, the big purpose is to get a better consensus when the votes get this divided. Let's say there are 40 voters and 15 people have Vizcaino as 13th, but the other 25 are scared off by the injuries and have him in the 20's. Somebody else could only have 10 people consider him 13th, but everybody else who doesn't has him 14th or 15th. Which one would the consensus pick as the better prospect? Probably the latter. The 3 votes help makes sure that happens. I get that, but I think it inaccurately saturates the voting pool. If Blackburn or Zastryzny wins this round, Vizcaino will have lost to someone he had nearly 20 or more votes than 3 rounds ago. And if people are selecting three people, and then posting that they like them in a specific order, why are they even selecting three people? If you like one more than the other, why not just select that one? Because if you have guys 13-14-15, it's probably not written in stone on anyone's personal list. So, you'd probably be ok with your #15 guy being voted #13. But if you have a guy 15 and your #13 doesn't get the vote, you're voting for him again until he's voted for. Meaning you are NOT voting for your #15 guy until 13 & 14 are both on the list. The MVP voting example is basically perfect.
  22. I'm with Law on this one. He's a non-prospect without a position for me. I think his lack of a position (in the sense that he won't hit well enough that the Cubs can get away with his bat and below average defense wherever he plays). He's not as done as Brett Jackson, but he's past the point that Olt is at now. I may have Vitters in my top 30, but he'd definitely be in the bottom 3 of that list.
  23. In some cases, but play design has more of an effect, I think. Calling a screen pass against a blitz. Calling crossing routes against man coverage.
  24. Can't open the link at work, but is that from point of throw or line of scrimmage?
