  1. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!  or "i didnt have the ball, bitch" I would think that qualfies as "something." Edit: This is especially hilarious cosidering the whole "My sister can hit harder than that." macho post above. "I've seen some rough scrapes in my day. Boy if I had a nickle for every "I'm going to knock your teeth out" I've heard, I'd be a rich man."
  2. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
  3. If a guy isn't given an opportunity to defend himself, then it's a sucker-punch, in my opinion. Any of us can walk up to a guy and punch him in the face. Heck, my sister could do it, if the guy didn't know it was coming (and she'd likely at least knock the guy down or leave a mark....... unlike Barrett's love-tap). Your efforts to bait people into pointless arguments not withstanding, your post makes little sense. What does the bolded even mean? How did AJ not have a chance to defend himself? He could have moved his shoulder up to deflect the punch when he saw it coming or turned away. Instead he stood there like a doofus. He was standing face to face with Barrett. Should Barrett have wound up, three stooges style, before he punched? What sort of warning should have been given? Perhaps he could have said , "Attention, sir! We are now combatants!!!" Your definition of sucker punch makes no sense but considering you come here for the sole purpose of baiting Cubs fans into arguments, I'm not really surprised.
  4. I'll blame Dusty for some things, but I don't know if I can go as far and say he and/or Rothschild hurt Prior. Starting in 2003, when Dusty took over here are Prior's Innings pitched and pitchers per game. 2003: 211 113 2004: 119 98 2005 167 104 Those number aren't that crazy. If Prior can't throw 100 pitchers per game without getting hurt it isn't going to matter who is managing the club. Wood's numbers look like this 2003: 211 110 2004: 140 101 2005: 66 88 My point is I don't think it is ALL Dusty/Rothschild's fault. These two guys seem to be extremely brittle. Wood has more of an injury history than Prior so he is a little easier to figure out. Not sure what the deal is with Prior, sure he threw 200+ innings in 2003, but most elite pitchers will throw 200+ innings in a year. Average number of pitches per start doesn't tell the whole story, I'm afraid. It has a lot to do with how many pitches they're being run out there for in certain starts. Just look at the PAP data. In 2003, Prior made 30 starts. Of those 30, 20 were 110 pitches or more. Of those 20, 9 of them were more than 122 pitches. Wood made 32 starts and also had 20 starts over 110 pitches, 8 of those over 122, and 1 of them over 133. Livan Hernandez, widely regarded as the most abused pitcher in baseball because of his "rubber arm," made 17 CAT3+ starts in 2003 (and finished 3rd in PAP - 1-5 was Vazquez, Wood, Livan, Prior, Redman, with Zambrano sitting at 11th). Average pitch counts can be helpful, but to say Dusty and Rothschild aren't highly responsible for Wood and Prior's troubles is ignoring the truth. How come Vazquez, Livan, and Redman have all pitched a lot since then? They aren't injured. But their managers abused them, how can that be? Vasquez ERA: 2003: 3.24 2004: 4.91 2005: 4.42 2006: 4.43 Redman ERA: 2003: 3.59 2004: 4.71 2005: 4.90 2006: 5.95 Yeah that 2003 abuse seems to have left them in pretty good shape after in the years following. They are really tearing it up.
  5. 6 games. So a part-time player (pitcher) gets 6 games for running around 50 already fighting individuals to piledrive someone for no apparent reason and gets only 6 games. An everyday player punches a guy who just ran him over and gets 10 games. That was a fight, though. If the "dude" was out there in the middle of a fight, he at least had the opportunity to defend himself......... or should have. Barrett sucker-punched a guy who had no reason to expect it, and was completely defenseless. To me, there's a difference. Besides, at least Farnsworth's assault was effective. I don't even know what most of that means. The "dude" Farnsworth piledrived was not in the middle of a fight, and even if he was, it does not make the actions any more right than what Barrett did. Pierwhatshisface had more opportunity to defend himself as the "dude" did. Maybe you didn't see the Farns in action, I don't know. I'm not going to argue semantics on whether or not it was a sucker punch, but when words are exchanged face-to-face and one ends up getting punched, I do not consider that a sucker punch. I do not condone Barrett's behavior, and I think he should be suspended, but 10 games is a bit harsh in my opinion when conjuring up memories of suspensions past. AJ didn't say anything to Barrett after the collision. It was Barrett who said something like, "I didn't have the ball, [expletive]" right before he punched AJP. Also, the Reds pitcher, Paul Wilson, made a move towards the pitchers' mound, so that was a mutual fight. AJP did not even make eye contact with Barrett after the play at the plate. I'm not defending AJ, I just had to clarify your inaccurate post. There are no inaccuracies in his post. You aren't even addressing the correct Farnsworth incident. He's correct. In no way was it a sucker punch. AJP obviously didn't expect it. That's his fault not Barrett's. A punch being unexpected doesn't make it a sucker punch. He was face to face with Barrett and he had the opportunity to see it coming. By some people's definitions here I guess the first punch thrown in every single fight is a sucker punch unless there is some West Side Story square off or someone yells "PREPARE YOURSELF! PUNCH INCOMING!" I know this wont convince the various Cardinals trolls (Not you bc2k) , but it's the truth.
  6. Someone needs to stick it to those baseball cap wearing rappers. Well done.
  7. ESPN's live gamecast commentary stopped 30 mins ago.
  8. Aren't you the one who said Prior was 'a girl' or soft because he wasn't playing? Perhaps you shouldn't be the one throwing stones. I said he was soft, then 8 posts later, I retracted my statement and said I was wrong. Thanks for playing though. You never said you were wrong, you said you were a bit harsh. You also called Prior "the biggest girl I have ever seen." I know you're a big Wood fanboy but considering your history perhaps you should be a little bit more forgiving when people say things out of frustration.
  9. Media travel. Never underestimate the power of hundreds of reporters complaining about something. BS. It's so that an underdog team has a better shot at an upset. No, it's so hundreds of reporters, radio, and TV people don't have to fly to LA to Boston to LA to Boston to LA over two weeks. It's about logistics, not conspiracies. Still lame. Why would you do something that could change the outcome of a championship series because the reporters might get a little tired? Pretty ridiculous.
  10. Does he have Tourettes Syndrome or something?
  11. Aren't you the one who said Prior was 'a girl' or soft because he wasn't playing? Perhaps you shouldn't be the one throwing stones.
  12. No [deleted] the building can't pitch, etc. And I'm not making excuses for bad baseball, etc. You are missing my point. Recap: The reason why the Tribune/MacPhail aren't motivated to win is because people happily flood Wrigley Field simply because it's Wrigley Field. And the Tribune/MacPhail have absolutely no motivation to put a winning team on the field because Wrigley continues to sell out and be extremely profitiable for the Tribune. Thus I have a love/hate for Wrigley because I want a World Series right now!!!! How does the fact that people go to games make the Tribune company not try to win? Our payroll is adequate and we actively try to aquire people who will improve the team. The problem is that our management believes that certain players will improve the club and they won't (See, JJ, Neifi, Rusch, etc...). Do you think the Tribune company issues some sort of directive to only 'kind of try' since they are making money? If you don't succeed, no big deal? What's the sense in doing that? The Tribune Company has spent money trying to get the right people in the right places (See Dusty's contract). They just don't haven't done a very good job at identifying and hiring people who will actually help this team win. We need to stop blaming inanimate objects as the source of our failure. Every time we point to stuff like Wrigley, day games, the wind, the neighborhood, or dead goats we are glossing over the real issue which is bad management. We're giving the people with control over our winning baseball games a free pass while we blame a bunch of bricks held together by mortar. It's nuts.
  13. Wrigley isn't holding us back. Bad players and management are holding us back. Wrigley is just a building.
  14. This could cost us the playoffs.
  15. Great stuff, Soul. When you go, I'd love to hear an account of how the practices looked. Remember when we all wanted to draft Santonio Holmes when he was available late in the first? I was disappointed that the Steelers scooped him up ahead of us. Am I still disappointed? Not so much. He just got arrested for the second time this offseason. Good work, guy.
  16. Nothing turns a team around like the fans not attending the games. That's a sure fire way to the World Series.
  17. HAhahahahahahahha!
  18. Don't you think taking a line drive on the elbow had more impact on Prior's career path? Not at all. I think 2003 had more to do with that. I'm not going to argue that Prior throws a lot of pitches in his starts, sometimes more than you would like to see (especially with big leads). However, he had one full season where he was very good and healthy. He's been neither since. I can't blame Dusty and the 7 innings per start he gave to the pitcher with the perfect mechanics for ruining his career (part blame, sure, but a lot has to do with the man himself and the types of injuries he has sustained). This post makes no sense. I read it five times and still can't figure it out.
  19. Gotta get Guz back out there quick, while he's hot. I like this approach.
  20. Gameday says Pierre grounded out 'sharply.' Must have been a titanic blast. I bet it didn't leave many of the Wrigley faithful with their eardrums intact.
