  1. Not really. They have a high team OBP and score a lot of runs. Seems like a good example.
  2. Exclude all the guys w/ injuries and the Yankees probably still have the highest payroll in baseball. And...??? What does this have to do with the point of the article? pretty simple. if you have the most money, then there's a good chance you'll have the best hitters. giambi, jetah, arod, posada and damon cost about as much as the entire cub payroll. Uh, I'm not really sure why you are bringing up payroll but, yeah they spend a lot of money are players that have good OBP's. That combination of players produces a lot of runs in part because of their excellent team OBP. That's how they can still have a good record with mediocre pitching and injuries (Point of the article).

  5. I take it the homerun was overruled? Gameday has exploded.
  6. Career (may be incomplete) $9,848,000 I'd say they got the job done.
  7. Bias is awesome. [Links and stuff] I wouldn't say he's 'far and away' the best WR, but depending on who comes out early and who doesn't, he could be the top WR taken. I haven't seen him go any lower than 22 in any mock draft so far. Let's not kid ourselves about what kind of football prospect he is. Correct. Far and away is extreme, but he is the top WR in the draft right now. There will likely be some that come out early. He should go 1st round, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's not the 1st WR taken. A lot can happen in 10 months. Calvin Johnson is almost a certainty to go pro after his junior year and would be pretty much assured of being the top receiver in the draft when he does so. Don't forget about Sidney Rice.

  9. Not even close? What are you talking about? At this point, the guy's a consensus first round pick and possibly the first receiver taken. Baring injury or disaster, there is no way he goes later than round 2.
  10. IMO, he would be crazy to play football over baseball. Football contracts are not guarenteed, unless he is a top 5 WR he won't make that much money, his carrer is likely to be much shorter, even bad starting pitchers make $4 mill a year. I guess more money up-front (potentially) but much less money over the course of a career. If the Cubs give him 1st round money or close to it, it would be hard to turn down. I agree with those reasons. The only reason that would support his decision to play football is if he truely thinks he's a better football player. Why be good in one sport when you feel you could be great in another? If that's how he feels, I could understand that. With Brady Quinn throwing to him, in that offense, his numbers should be pretty great this year.
  11. That's pretty much what I have heard from everyone but this source (NW Indiana Newspaper). Source could be suspect but I'd figure I'd throw it out there.
  12. I figured I would re-post this here since it'll probably get more traffic. http://nwitimes.com/articles/2006/06/05/sports/top_sports/9978694a89c432e4862571840005582f.txt
  13. I've heard upper 80's and lower 90's, never upper 90's. http://nwitimes.com/articles/2006/06/05/sports/top_sports/9978694a89c432e4862571840005582f.txt Not sure how seriously to take this.
  14. I have heard conflicting info on Samardjza's fastball. I have heard mid to upper 90's and mid to upper 80's. What's the deal?
  15. Is everyone excited to hear about Samardjshdga and the Cubs every time ND plays?
  16. Once he signs a professional contract he can't go back and play at the NCAA level in a different sport though can he? Will he wait and just sign a deal before spring training next year and forgo the NFL Draft? I think they can do both. Cedric Benson was in the Dodgers farm system. I'm not sure how it works though.
  17. Maybe we can catch lightning in a bottle.
  18. I don't understand how there could be such a difference in 2004 in OPS+ when there was only a .041 difference in OPS. The difference is only 9. 2005's difference is 23 because of the .088 difference in OPS (as well as park factors). This why is a difference of 9 the difference between below average and above average? 100 is average. Then 9 is a significant difference, and I still don't like the stat. They are closer to each other as hitters than that. Don't get too hung up on the "Below Average" "Above average" distinctions. 100 is considered the average, but both players were pretty close to each other and pretty close too 100. Both players were average that season, IMO.
  19. (CUBS) Todd Walker OPS/OPS+: 2004:820/105 2005:829/115 (CUBS) Grudz OPS/OPS+: 2003:782/105 2004:779/96 These are just their years with the Cubs.
  20. He blamed the lack of interest in him on collusion and said the Cubs didn't negotiate in good faith, or something like that. Couldn't understand why a below average hitter reaching his mid 30's would garner little attention. He is not below average. He has about .040 difference in OPS with Walker. He's had a sub 100 OPS+ the past couple years, which is below average. So then Walker is barely average? He's been a decent amount above average the past couple years. Then I think the OPS+ stat is garbage. Awesome.
  21. Pointing out faults=Wallowing in misery. Gotcha.
  22. I hope Hill continues to recoup his trade value.
