  1. Great win by our Cubs! I'm starting to get a good feeling about this team. What's lost in the Sori hit parade has been two terrific outings by our young lefties, Hill and Marshall. Add in Marmol and a healthy Guzman, and I'd have to say we have the most impressive group of young pitchers in MLB. And just wait until D-Lee and Ram heat back up! Let's make it 4 in a row tomorrow!
  2. Boy, you know we're in dreamland when JJ gets a hit!
  3. He's had less than 75 ABs in his major league career, and he's only 22 years old. To add to that, he's hitting between Alfonso Soriano and Derrek Lee. I doubt the opposing pitcher is going to be too careful pitching to Pie. You can't force the opposing pitcher to walk you. He's had some very nice ABs so far. The broken bat RBI hit into right field a few days ago was probably the best AB any Cub has had this year. He worked the count to 3-2 then fouled off about 8 pitches before finally muscling the ball into right for the RBI. He then proceeded to stretch the single into a double on one of the best arms in the league. The kid is going to be good. At worst he'll be an average offensive CF with excellent defense and speed. Now that's not what I want from him, but that's the floor with him. Just calm down and let him play. i just said that despite his defense, despite his speed, despite his "clutchness", if he doesn't take some walks, he'll never be a consistent productive player in the league. and that would be a failing. there are plenty of players who hit between 2 excellent hitters and still draw walks. and the plate appearance you're speaking of, he fouled off plenty of ball 4's. you can't be afraid to strike out as a major league player. i don't care what the results are right now, they're bound to be negative over the course of a major league season. I agree with you long-term, but name me a rookie who comes up to the bigs with the proper plate discipline already in place? I'm trilled by what I've seen out of Felix to date.
  4. I'm starting to feel good about this team boys...Anyone else like how many of the so called "experts" are still picking our Cubs to win the division? This team still hasn't gotten hot all at the same time, and we have more pitching depth than in recent years with solid performances by Guzman, Marshall and Marmol to go with our starting 5. Let's go Cubs!
  5. Can't we take it a little easier on a HS kid who just got interviewed on national TV? I'm sure everyone on this board would have done much better when they were 17. Jeez
  6. Just glad we didn't take another pitcher...we have plenty of young arms and need to have a solid position player prospect every decade or so. Funny how guys aren't even happy when we land the top HS hitter in the draft...
  7. I don't understand the concern of possibly spending a few extra millions to draft and sign the player we need, whether it's Price, Wieters (my hope) or Vitters? The Cubs are likely to fetch $800+M from a new owner, and whoever is brought in will not be looking to run a low-budget team. Anyone else feel this way?
  8. It's so refreshing to see one of our prospects come in and deliver right away. What's impressed me, is the energy he brings to the lineup--not to mention his live bat. Plant him in CF for the next decade, and I'm a happy fan!
  9. A-Ram with a knee sprain, according to Pat. For those watching the game, how bad was the tweak? (Glad to hear it's not his hammy or groin)
  10. Nice rally tonight, even if we did fall a bit short....we had our chances. I have a feeling that we'll see good Z tomorrow and a Cubs series winner....8-3
  11. Boy, Sori is a really terrible fielder...
  12. The absolute best is when the other team scores, all you hear is the beautiful sound of silence because the bum doesn't even call the play half the time.
  13. Good time to go out and draft Matt Wieters the catcher from G-Tech....any chance he can be signed right away and brought to Wrigley?
  14. Nice to see Lou put the onus where it belongs, with the players. On paper, this team should be quite a bit better than they've been playing lately.
  15. How appropriate that the slugging golden gloves winner from ND Tom Z. is signing the stretch today.
  16. All I can say at this point is go Red Sox! (and Brewers in the NL)
  17. So before Blanco was DL'd, he was scheduled to be Z's personal catcher. Can we infer that Barrett and Z had issues before today's slugfest?
  18. There is plenty of suckatude to go around
  19. Typical Cubs....we score a run, and then our fabulous pitching staff gives it right back. As a fan, I could forgive losing 2 of 3 to good teams on the west coast trip, but I have no clue why this team has collapsed like this the past week?
  20. Time to implement my back-up plan....go Red Sox! (I'm done with this team of losers)
  21. What the heck has happened to Guzman in the last week? He was pitching lights out....now they are knocking him out!
  22. If you think that things would just magically turn around if Hendry is canned, I think you're sadly mistaken. The team he put on the field should be playing better than what they've shown.
  23. If I were Lou, I'd send the entire team out to little league practice so they could learn how to run the bases. And then I'd fine them $10,000 each time they cost the team with absolutely pathetic base running. I just got done telling my four-year-old that you never run on a ground ball hit in front of you......and then Barrett wanders half the way to third base......amazing!
  24. I don't really think that the Trib cares if the Cubs cut Scott Eyre. They make enough in beer sales in one weekend to pay for Eyre's contract.
