  1. actually theriot said that he feels more comfortable at ss than at 2b. i dont see why he and fontenot couldn't do well at ss & 2b full time.
  2. and he's been playing ss too! the cubs really need to launch izzy and add fontenot to the 40 man and bring him up to the majors.
  3. anyone check and see how guys like wolf & padilla have done so far this year? i believe many people on this board much preferred them to lilly & marquis.

i dont know. maybe because the cubs only have 1 left handed starter in jones or pie when murton plays (which he should be doing every day imo). So? They need more hitters, not necessarily LH. There is no great need for LH hitters. If anything they need a RH bat that can platoon with Jones. i disagree. have you ever heard stone's explanation on why it is important to have several left handed hitters in a lineup? he contends that if a righty only faces right handed hitters, the pitcher is able to easily establish a release point to the outside corner which makes him that much harder to hit. it also goes along with the left right left (or right left right) batting order sequence that some managers prefer. the staggered lineup makes it harder for a starter to get into a good rhythm on his pitches.

    aaa iowa

They love Blanco as a backup catcher with more natural defensive ability than Barrett, i.e, he can throw runners out. Similar argument with Izturis. DeRosa wouldn't be dealt so soon unless Hendry is willing to swallow his pride on what is a bad FA signing. Eyre ... can't imagine his value is too high right now, like J Jones. Besides, it sounds like Pie is close to heading back down anyway. Not sure Lou is in agreement with injecting youth and, consequently, a less-experienced group of hitters for this mercurial offense we have. OT - where in Aurora are you from? any chance you went to West High? dejavu braskey but i am originally from the south side of chicago.

  7. perhaps the cubs should consider trading guys like blanco, derosa & eyre and bringing up hill, fontenot & pignatello or rapada from iowa. this would help the cubs get a few more much needed left handed bats in the lineup. hopefully they would be able to find takers for jones & izturis too.
  8. that impossible. it must be a mistake. after all, 32 other teams passed on him when he was available so he really must stink. if he keeps it up he might turn into the left handed version of theriot for the cubs. maybe the cubs should trade derosa and put fontenot at 2b to along with theriot at ss.
  9. I'm thinking Miller, Marshall, and Marmol are our options if Guzman falters. Let's just hope that Guzman will pitch as effective as he did yesterday so we won't really have to worry about that. I think the organization knows that Miller is done, so I'd probably say Marshall would be the next guy in line. Iowa won 7-1. Wells pitched the final 2 and 2/3's only allowing 1 hit and striking out 4. Fontenot had a 2-RBI double in the 9th to break the game wide open. The top four in the lineup (Walker, EPatt, Fontenot, and Hoffpauir) went a combined 8 for 20. Kinkade was 3/4 with 2 RBI's as well. fontenot is another guy who should be on the 25 man imo. now that there is little question that theriot can start in the majors, maybe the cubs should try to trade derosa along with jones.
  10. is marshall next on the list if guzman flames out? would the cubs really go with 3 lefties in the rotation? if guzman can pitch well until the AS break and marshall can stay healthy maybe they should consider trading z after all.
  11. i guess dusty does post on this board after all.
  12. i guess the cubs should have considered keeping him. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20070506&content_id=1949398&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  13. Also similar to clutch hitting, protection is a myth just because they cannot be quantified doesn't mean they do not exist.
  14. The thing I hate most about Jacque is that Hendry signed him when the Cubs needed so much more. I don't hate him like I hated Neifi and others. His OBP deficiency just makes the Cubs biggest problem all that much more of a problem. In his 7 months as a Cub his total numbers are pretty much right in line with expectations. he has still turned out to be a much better deal than either bradley or giles at this point. if i recall correctly many people on this board were blasting hendry for signing jones instead of one of those 2 who were touted as "must have's" by the armchair gm's.
  15. We're a few months into a contract that lasts a few years. I'm not eating anything until we're a little further down this path. Absolutely. But I'd be more than happy to start looking for recipes. better serve up some of that for yourself too goony. maybe add a side helping of theriot not starting to go along with marquis. Huh? I'm saying I've been wrong so far. As for Theriot, I wanted him starting, out of all Cubs SS options. What I've said about him is that I think the odds aren't in his favor to be an everyday guy, all season long. my misunderstanding then. i apologize.

  17. he could have been a cub: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Lincecum#Major_League_Baseball_Draft
  18. no and yes. "Eyre will earn $3 million in 2006, and $4 million in each of the following two years. The deal includes a $1.5 million signing bonus, and a no-trade clause and the third year is the player's option. Other incentives in the deal could add another $2.4 million over the three years." they have a few lefties like walrond and omalley having good seasons so far with iowa but they are starting at aaa. rapada has been hit very hard so far this year and pignatello is back at in the pen at iowa too.
  19. I don't believe that's possible. Maybe Furcal. perhaps he didnt mean johnston has a stronger arm than dunston had. by "better" ryno might have been factoring in accuracy too.
  20. SOLD! 3 good reasons the cubs dont need lieber: guzman marmol gallagher Except Lieber is better than all 3 right now, and Marmol and Gallagher aren't ML-ready pitchers. I'm all for Guzman taking over the 5th spot, but I'm also ready for Jones and Ohman to move on. Lieber + prospect + Guzman > Jones + Ohman. what makes you think that? his almost 5 era last year or his whole 8 ip this year? either way, there is no way he's worth 7.5 mil a year. i really hope they can get something for jones but imo they should keep ohman and launch eyre somehow. as for those silly pseudo equations, i really wish people would stop using them as they are quite meaningless (especially coming from people who rely so heavily on stats).

  22. if they can get aybar from the laa's for jones, perhaps they can also trade izturis & blanco, send cedeno to iowa and bring up fontenot & hill. i would also like to see them dump eyre and bring up cherry at some point along with putting guzman in the 5 spot.
  23. i very much doubt that will happen. hendry likes murton too much imo and since he is the one that makes those decisions i dont think there is any way he will be traded.
  24. 4 seam fastball around 92-97 good curve & slider good changeup
