Have the Cubs announced any of their upcoming starting pitchers beyond today's game? Taillon is next up in the order, but Steele will be on 5 days rest going into Monday.

I think it depends whether that are still hanging on in the playoff race at that point. If so, they probably stick with Mastrobuoni. If not, then they give someone like Caissie a shot

I had a similar thought. Drunk driving by itself is bad enough regardless of how cautiously the person is trying to drive, but driving drunk AND recklessly at the same time is a recipe for disaster and should be punished accordingly. This is an awful story.

I think the move was fine for this season, and things have worked out very well with PCA as it is, but there is a bigger problem next year if Bellinger doesn't opt out. The Cubs would enter the off-season with players essentially locked into all 9 spots in the lineup. In some ways, that's a good problem to have, but it doesn't leave much flexibility to improve the roster without significant trades. It also continues to block the remaining AAA outfielders for the foreseeable future. While I think the Cubs would be in a better position headed into the off-season without Bellinger, I still think it was the right move to make at the time. The one thing the Cubs appear to have got extremely lucky with is the Bellinger injury. If he hadn't broken his finger, how much would PCA have played? Would he have been able to make progress with only limited at bats, or would he still be relegated to the role of light hitting pinch runner and defensive replacement? Sometimes you just need to let young players struggle while they figure things out, and the Cubs may have benefited from being forced into doing that.

Or just put Hendricks on an EXTREMELY short leash and have Wicks or Kilian ready to go early. But with what we've seen already with Hoyer's handling of Neris and Smyly, I wouldn't be shocked if this was Hendricks' last game

I'm riding the Cubs wave with 3 straight parlay wins. The only thing better than a miraculous comeback win is a miraculous comeback win that pays out on a bet that has already been written off as a lost cause. The betting shall continue until the Cubs lose!

Overall, Paredes has had 1 good MLB season, and a couple average-ish seasons. I'm not sure why we have to pretend he is some sort of known commodity who is likely to return to being an above average third baseman. Yes, he has had some extended periods of success. Hopefully he gets back to being that guy again next year. He almost certainly won't continue to play as poorly as he has over the past few months. But I'm not fully confident in his track record to assume he is going to be the answer for the Cubs at third base.

There was a short period where it looked like he was turning things around somewhat, but now he's heading back the other direction. I think you are right.

I agree that those things aren't happening. It's a bit frustrating that 1 of the 3 teams didn't give the Cubs are least a small opening, but as long as there is still a non-zero statistical chance of making the playoffs, we can naively enjoy watching the Cubs play good baseball and just forget about what the other teams are doing. Unfortunately though, the hole was just too deep.

After all is said and done, they are likely going to end up right where they were projected in terms of wins. But the way they got there left quite a few wins on the table.
