  1. Someone still has to suck though, so Beth Mowins has picked up the slack.
  2. I agree. I wasn't really following any particular event, but it was good background TV viewing for a few weeks.
  3. It is fun to say that the Cubs are only 3 games out of a Wild Card spot, and they can use that to sell the fans and try to drive ticket sales, but their playoff possibilities remain dire. I'm glad they are playing better baseball, but they still need to pass 4 teams to get into playoff position. The Diamondbacks and Padres are both 7 games up, a huge deficit to make up over 43 games. That leaves the 4 required teams as the Giants, Cardinals, Mets, and Braves. Only one of those teams really scares me, but it is the Braves with a 3 game head start. I think the Cubs are going to need to play well over a 60% winning percentage for the rest of the year to have a fighting chance. If they can go 26-17 or better, maybe there's a chance the Braves play .500 baseball the rest of the year and the Cubs can sneak into the last playoff spot (assuming that none of the other 3 teams also win at a similar pace to the Cubs), but there is very little room for error.
  4. I didn't watch any diving, but what's the deal with that? Why would Chinese divers have an advantage?
  5. Maybe just me, but the Closing Ceremonies coverage from L.A.... Not great. The Tom Cruise thing started out cool, but then the video got really glitchy and the audio for the musical performances wasn't any better. I guess they have four years to get the bugs ironed out before the Opening Ceremonies in 2028!
  6. It is REALLY strange. Not playing baseball on a beautiful summer Sunday should be a criminal offense.
  7. Interesting. Unless it is injury related, he wouldn't be the guy I would skip.
  8. I've never seen such a focus on not balking. The announcers, the manager. Is that really a thing that a veteran major league reliever needs to be reminded?
  9. It was on the PCA stumble rounding first base. They challenged the safe call and lost.
  10. There's no way the Cubs tender Wisdom next year, right? I kind of wish they would just cut him now and give Bote a few more chances.
  11. I don't see it posted yet, but apparently Horton had a setback and is done for the season. Ugh. I thought this was a minor injury.
  12. Hear me out... What if, instead, we get 6 or 7 guys who are sometimes pretty ok and 2 or 3 guys who are usually pretty bad. That should even out on paper, right?
  13. Assuming a 550 at bat season, Michael Busch is on a near 200 strikeout pace. I didn't think his performance is sustainable unless that improves.
  14. I get it, but what's done is done with strike 2 and I want him to be aggressive on the last pitch and not take strike 3.
  15. 6 innings, 2 runs from Kyle. I'll take that anytime.
  16. I'm sure Happ is eventually going to go on one of his 2 week heaters, but the extended periods where he is one of the worst hitters in baseball are really annoying.
  17. That ball looked like it had an EV of about 140 coming off the bat. I would have been less surprised if it hit a building across the road than I was that it landed in the basket.
  18. Big game tonight! Can the White Sox score their first Monday victory of the season?
  19. Ideally that would be the case, but the Cubs' outfield picture is so crowded that I'm not sure there will really be much of an opportunity for anyone else unless there is another injury. Otherwise, how much is really to be gained by getting Caissie a few at bats a week similar to what we saw with Canario?
  20. It's the bottom of the lineup making all the difference. PCA + Amaya hitting changes everything.
  21. PCA putting things together makes for some interesting lineup decisions down the stretch. He probably needs to continue to play in CF nearly every day, and Busch needs to be at 1B every day. So do the Cubs put their best defensive lineup out there with Bellinger in RF when he is healthy, OR if they think Bellinger is opting out and want to keep getting Seiya work in RF for the future, does Cody continue to see most of his time at DH?
  22. Didn't Candelario go through something similar last year?
