  1. This offense is fun, and unexpected in the cold Wrigley weather.
  2. That seems about as likely as Justin Turner in CF.
  3. The thing that sucks about the combination of Brujan's IL stint and Workman's slow start (in very limited at bats) is it probably means Workman doesn't get any time to adjust to MLB and the Cubs will replace him with Brujan as soon as he is ready. If Brujan hadn't got hurt and had been DFA'd, Workman would have had a little more rope.
  4. This is not in question. But he is also pretty bad within the given restraints.
  5. Jed is too busy looking for the next post-prime closer to sign or trade for, hoping for him to reclaim his glory days while saving Tom a few hundred bucks.
  6. To be fair, that was a pretty good at bat from Turner. But in the end, another really bad loss.
  7. Wait, did they really give Nico the error on that throw?
  8. I get that Turner is likely batting in the 9th, but why wouldn't you leave Busch in at 1B, then put Workman in Turner's spot?
  9. It sucks in that situation because Happ probably doesn't swing at the 4th pitch if the count was 3-0. So essentially, that one bad call changed the outcome of the entire at bat.
  10. As well as the Cubs have been playing, the young players who we were hoping to see step forward really haven't done anything... PCA, Shaw, Busch, even Workman (in limited at bats).
  11. Kelly is having a rough time throwing the ball today.
  12. If Tom can't turn Jed into the scapegoat, and the Cubs don't re-sign Tucker, there's no way Tom shows his face at Cubs Convention next year.
  13. And why was the second balk not simply a wild pitch?
  14. This is not limited to mid-majors. Illinois can't keep anyone.
  15. Or, I don't know, maybe Jed has been here long enough that he can take responsibility for not being able to develop reliable bullpen arms from within the organization.
  16. That's a new one, a guy warming up too much that he is unavailable for the next game.
  17. The answer is probably trading away prospects at the deadline for short term bullpen help, rather than just having spent money for it in the off-season.
  18. Jed prefers to give a bad pitcher $5M rather than spend $8-10M on a good pitcher. That's money right in his boss' pocket, and his performance incentives are all tied to cost savings.
  19. Maybe we should have kept Kyle Hendricks as a bullpen arm.
  20. In most cities, Jed would have a leg up as the worst GM in town. Not Chicago though. This is just par for the course.
  21. That was an incredible play by Swanson. On the downside, it sucks that we're back to having a closer who can't overpower guys and has to get by on grit and offspeed pitches.
  22. And then watch Bellinger outperform Kyle Tucker. Ok, that probably won't happen... but I can't say I'm not a little scared that it might.
