Putting the disappointment of tonight's loss aside, this was still a very good season for Illinois. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Groce, but he has proven that he can be a successful coach in a major conference. The future looks bright, especially if he can continue to recruit classes like the one coming in 2013. Losing Paul is going to hurt and next year's team may take a slight step back, but I am confident that good things are ahead in 2014 and beyond.

Dammit, that game was there for the taking. It all turned with the bad 3-point attempt with a 2 point lead coming out of a timeout.

That was a huge swing. Egwu may have oversold it a bit, but there was definitely an arm extended to push him. Ridiculous!

Seems they're trying to get Egwu going, he's shot quite a bit. They might be doing quite a bit better if he could actually hit a shot. That does appear to have been the gameplan, but it isn't working and I'm not sure they will stick with it. When all else fails, they revert to firing up 3's.

It is going to be extremely tough for Illinois to win this game without any semblance of an inside game.

Watching the ref on the charge call, it looked like he started the block motion ever so slightly, hesitated momentarily, then called the charge.

This is shaping up to be the least exciting day of 2nd round games that I can ever remember.

I just read Jim Callis' 2016 projections in Baseball America and it was a little disconcerting that there was no mention of the Cubs. Obviously predicting 3+ years into the future is an inexact science at best, but I was very surprised that the Cubs would not be considered a 2016 contender. Many people seem to be predicting a competitive team in 2014 and potential contender in 2015, so does Callis not buy into the Cubs rebuilding plan? http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/column/2013/2614788.html

Sunday could be rough, but this team always has a chance if they can get hot and stay hot. Whatever ends up happening, I consider getting to the tournament and winning a game a successful first season for Groce.

We have seen this story before. Illinois will continue to miss shots while Colorado expands their lead, then suddenly the shots will start going in with about 2 minutes left to go in the game but will be too little too late.
