  1. I am still thinking the timetable is maybe a year later than that, possible Wild Card in 2016, at which time Samardzija would be 31. That is a young 31 though in terms of number of innings pitched, so it is entirely possible that he could still have multiple very good seasons into his mid 30's. I won't be upset at all if the Cubs sign him to a long term deal, but I would certainly understand if they were to deal him for one or more top prospects. The one thing they really can't afford to do is go into next season with him still on the roster and no long term deal in place.
  2. Playing competitively in individual games and competing for a World Series title aren't quite the same thing. Really?? Tell me more. Just because they aren't being blown out of games doesn't mean they are going to be contenders for a division or world series title. Sure they have been in most of the games so far, but we are only 9 games into the season. I guess it depends on your definition of competing. I think the Cubs can potentially field a respectable team next year, but not a team that will compete for a championship quite yet.

  4. Or if he keeps pitching like this, let's trade him while he is in his prime and his value is at an all-time high.
  5. Can we get Olt a replacement Hyper Shoulder from Base Wars?
  6. How did this guy make it through the Cubs' supposedly rigorous interview process? Did they give him a pass because he had a bad hip?
  7. Hey, why not sacrifice with your hottest hitter?
  8. Samardzija was clearly thinking "I have a moron for a manager."
  9. Bad call or not, Baez needs to learn to control his emotions a little better. I have seen several occasions over the past year where he has argued calls or made outward displays toward the umpire and I don't want that to become a pattern with him. Hopefully today's benching got his attention and he can put this behind him and proceed on a positive note after the pinch hit home run.
  10. Well deserved in my opinion.
  11. This is stupid if managers are just going to stall on every questionable call while they determine whether or not to challenge.
  12. WGN TV? Because there is horrible crackling audio on mine.
  13. Someone please turn off the mic that is producing all the static.
  14. Olt might as well be in AAA if Barney is going to get starts over him.
  15. WHERE WAS THE 5TH INFIELDER??? That was hit right at him.
  16. They better finish this game fast before the whole stadium starts tilting toward left field.
  17. Give me any episode of Quantum Leap and I'll be happy.
  18. Apparently there was once an American League curfew where no new inning could start after 12:59am. I have no idea whether that curfew is still and place or, if not, when it was eliminated.
  19. Pittsburgh doesn't have rooftop owners, they can play until however late they want I thought there was a league rule that no inning could be started after a certain time? If one still exists it's that a game can't start after a certain time, but I think the only curfews that exist (if there still are any) are imposed by the cities themselves You must be right. I can't find it in the rulebook. I'm not sure why I thought there was a league-wide curfew unless there was one in the past.
