I legitimately can't decide whether umpires have always been this inconsistent and we are just more aware of it now due the amount of information (Pitch Trax, etc.) that is available to us. Or are umpires truly calling games more inconsistently now than they have in the past? They were even worse in the past. Totally made up zones in the old days was considered apart of an umpire's personality.. Yes, I remember that, but the problem with the zone now is more the inconsistency than the zone itself. If a guy is consistently calling the same pitch outside the zone, that isn't ideal, but at least players know what to expect. This year the strike zone seemingly changes from one batter to the next.
