  1. Since Kyle won't finish under 2.00, let's move on to the next battle. Can Heyward finish over .230?
  2. Giants already up 2-0. The Dodgers apparently have no desire to show up in that series, so it looks like it will be Mets vs. Giants with no tiebreakers needed.
  3. I know he has the extra day of rest, but it still sucks to see Lester going 110+ pitches here.
  4. I would be ok with this being a 3 inning outing for Lester. He hit 200 innings and he isn't going to get the win, so no reason to let him struggle through the 4th and 5th.
  5. Mild ankle sprain for Coghlan. I'm guessing he'll be ok by next Friday if Maddon wants him on the roster.
  6. Come on Grimm, I really don't want to see Cahill on the playoff roster over you.
  7. The fact that Martinez hasn't got a manager job by now leads me to believe it probably isn't going to happen. There is clearly something about him that hasn't won teams over in the interview process. His name doesn't even get mentioned for openings any more the same way it did a few years ago.
  8. There were unconfirmed rumors that the bullpen move would be delayed one more season, but I believe the Cubs denied those rumors. So at this point, I don't think we know. One more season after it was already delayed to 2017? Yes, but I don't know whether there was anything to that rumor.

  10. I think Coghlan has done enough over the past few weeks to win that battle. With Javy's versatility, we really don't need LaStella as an extra infielder.
  11. Selfishly as a baseball fan, I can't help but think what the equivalent would be if this happened to a Cubs player and how we would feel after losing a cornerstone of the franchise. And it becomes magnified even further because he was one of the few truly bright spots for Miami. This is absolutely devastating for their franchise. I assume the answer is no, but is there any allowance or precedent for compensation (i.e. draft picks) to be granted to a team in such extreme circumstances?
  12. It will be interesting to see when Arrieta pitches next. He can only fit 1 more start into the regular season on normal rest, so my best guess he will get a little extra rest both before and after his next start, putting him in line for Game 2.
  13. I have always enjoyed listening to Vin Scully. I think a big part of it is that he was the voice of the playoffs and World Series for a large part of my childhood. Hearing him broadcast a game now doesn't sound all that much different than it did 20-30 years ago. I have been going to bed each night this week with the Dodgers broadcast on MLB.tv and will likely continue to do that for most nights up until the end of the season. I'm sure some people have good reasons for disliking him, but for me he is easily the most iconic voice in baseball history and I want to listen to him as much as possible while I still can.
  14. He doesn't have any power to sacrifice, so overhaul away.
  15. I'm still monitoring all the Washington games to make sure the Cubs can get Home Field Advantage in the NLCS, but maybe that is just grasping for a reason for the games to matter.
  16. Like I said, it doesn't matter right now, but it does matter in the playoffs if he is coming up in the 6 spot with the middle of the order guys on base. Let Heyward take his walks in front of the pitcher. No, it still doesn't matter. Putting Heyward 8th means it's less likely to have guys on base for Bryant when he comes up in the 2 spot. The overall difference is entirely negligible. It may be statistically negligible, and it may be meatball thinking on my part, but I still can't buy into the fact that a #8 hitter has the same impact on the game as a #6 hitter. Especially when the hitter in question is slugging at a near historically low rate, it sure feels he can have a larger negative impact on the team's scoring chances when hitting 6th.
  17. It doesn't really ever matter. Like I said, it doesn't matter right now, but it does matter in the playoffs if he is coming up in the 6 spot with the middle of the order guys on base. Let Heyward take his walks in front of the pitcher.
  18. I am amazed that Heyward is still batting 6th. He is essentially the 2nd worst hitter in all of MLB. It doesn't matter right now, but he needs to be hitting 8th in the playoffs.
  19. It's really not even close between those three. Give me the Cardinals any day.
  20. Out of all qualified hitters, only Adeiny Hechavarria has a lower OPS than Heyward, so it is safe to say you could plug in almost any name you want to the start of your sentence and have it be a correct statement.
  21. His OPS is awful, but the SLG... ee gads!
