  1. That's a start. Now trade him for a bag of balls.
  2. Surely not locking anyone up with an extension will never backfire.
  3. I wonder if we will see less Tom walking around Wrigley greeting fans this year. It would give me great joy to see him roundly booed when shown on the big screen, but 90% of fans at Wrigley will be oblivious to what has (or hasn't) happened this offseason.
  4. In other words, he will pick who he wants to be traded to once he figures out how much he hates Philly.
  5. Single game tickets are on sale now!
  6. Another Jr. Keep them coming!
  7. I know I'm in the minority, but I still want no part of the DH. It seems strange to me though that they would even be considering such a change less than 2 months from opening day. If and when MLB decides to adopt the DH in the NL, wouldn't it make sense to announce it early in the off-season (or sooner) to give teams a better opportunity to build their rosters? Ultimately, I expect it will be a concession by the owners in the next CBA. There is no pressing reason to do it this year.
  8. Come on Joe. This is Bryce horsefeathering Harper we're talking about, not Billy Hamilton.
  9. MLB off-season is the worst. Free agency in the other major sports is largely resolved within a few weeks, but in baseball we have to put up with months of posturing and non-activity. There is no more hot stove. There is only a lukewarm tub of bathwater, while team owners count their growing piles of money and prepare to pass any cost increases on to the fans. I reserve the right to declare MLB off season great again if Harper signs with the Cubs, but that isn't happening.
  10. Tom Ricketts puts a friendly public face to ownership that makes it appear like the team is being run by a baseball-first family business, but the reality is they are in it for the money (which they unfortunately spend on some very questionable causes). What happened to the extra money they were supposedly saving away during the rebuild for future payroll? Has that already been spent on hotels and restaurants that nobody asked for? Ownership crying poor, albeit indirectly through the media, really strikes me the wrong way. They are monetizing everything and consistently raising ticket and concession prices, yet there is no way that payroll increases have kept up with their increased revenue. The money is there. They just want to keep it for themselves. So yes, I agree, this is the time to spend a little extra money, and I will be upset if all the rumors end up being true and the Cubs never even gave themselves a chance to sign Harper.
  11. There is only one untouchable on this roster and it is Tommy La Stella.
  12. If teams hear actual valuable guys like Schwarber, Happ, etc are guys we are open to moving I still fail to see how this team gets better by trading Schwarber, unless it is a precursor or result of signing Harper.
  13. I know, we might only win 92 games next year if we bring back largely the same team with some tweaks.* (Obviously we should be adding more, I’m not saying I’m fine with this)* On one hand, you can argue that this team can and should make the playoffs almost every year for the next 4-5 seasons, and anything can happen in the playoffs. The other side of the argument is that the roster is somewhat flawed and there are other objectively better teams . Sure, the Cubs could beat the Red Sox in a 7 game series, but that isn't the likely outcome. I would hope the Cubs would attempt to maximize this rare window and give themselves the best chance to win, not just straddle the line of winning and profits and roll the dice that they can get lucky in the playoffs.
  14. I will leave this depressing article here. https://theathletic.com/630609/2018/11/02/what-the-cole-hamels-option-means-for-the-cubs-and-bryce-harper/
  15. Note to Jed and Theo... Stay far, far away from Eovaldi.
  16. I thought his fingers touched the bag right when the tag happened. It was close, and I totally get the "too close to overturn" reasoning, but the burden of proof is just so damn inconsistent.
  17. The Dodgers are definitely going to lose this game because replay is dumb.
  18. Is there anything in the CBA that prevents his release during the suspension?
  19. It is also a bad look on a front office that had a historically bad offseason. This year is on them as much as anyone else. Maddon is certainly not without fault, but it isn't fair to make him the scapegoat.
  20. Kris Bryant says his shoulder is "great". Let's hope he is just trying to avoid making excuses.
  21. Rizzo didn't exactly give Chili Davis an endorsement there, when asked about whether the team got away from their approach of using the whole field - "If I hit the ball to left field, it's an accident."
  22. I have nothing against them. I may actually root for them. Do it for Uecker. a number of their players are grade-a d-bags and the city of milwaukee, generally speaking, sucks. True, but the Cubs had a few of those too. The Brewers don't have the market cornered on scumbags, and their manager seems like a respectable guy. I won't be upset if they win.
