  1. Nice play by Mastrobuoni. I can't believe I'm saying this, but he has done a pretty good job at 3B these past few weeks. Who goes back to Iowa when Madrigal is ready, Wisdom or Mastrobuoni? Or the dark horse and completely undeserving candidate, Amaya?
  2. Another defensive miscue leads to a run, and maybe more.
  3. That pitch has been getting called a lot lately. It seems like umpires are getting worse.
  4. They aren't a bad team either. If in fact they continue to beat up on weak teams over the next few weeks, you can't hold it against them that they had a front-loaded schedule and are now talking advantage of a softer spot. They are pretty much what a lot of us thought they were going into the season, a borderline playoff contender in today's expanded MLB playoff system.
  5. As long as the Cubs have a puncher's chance at a playoff spot, and barring any trades, it appears they are likely to ride Tauchman in CF and Bellinger at 1B against righties and Bellinger in CF and Mancini at 1B against lefties. I can't really argue with that approach, as now probably isn't the best time to throw Mervis back into the mix. When/if we reach a point where the playoffs are out of reach, then I have to imagine Mervis will be up and playing almost every day.
  6. I think there is a world in which the Cubs can trade Stroman and still make the playoffs. Can they trade them both and still make it? That is extremely unlikely. With that said, if that hypothetical scenario occurs where the Cubs trade Stroman and do make the playoffs, then the deal almost looks worse. On one hand - Yay, we got something for Stroman and still made the playoffs! On the other hand - We made the playoffs, but now don't have our best pitcher in a short series, so what exactly are we trying to do here?
  7. Yikes. The AL Central is really bad, but not THAT bad. The White Sox have to play .667 baseball over the next 60 games just to get back to .500
  8. Like I was saying earlier, if they can win tomorrow and then take 3 out of 4 from the Cardinals, they would be a game over .500 coming up to the trade deadline. More importantly, they would probably be less than 5 games back in the division and even closer to the Wild Card (although behind more teams). That would start to make things really interesting. That's a little cart before the horse though, because winning 4 out of the next 5 to get to that point is far from a likely outcome.
  9. I don't see David Ross as a guy who would take kindly to that sort of interference from the front office.
  10. I know this is dangerous to look ahead, but hypothetically if the Cubs win tonight and tomorrow, then taking 3 out of 4 from St. Louis would get them OVER .500 with a day to go before the deadline. At this point, I think everything, including adding, is still on the table.
  11. If he continues anywhere near this level for the rest of the season, absolutely yes.
  12. "Had to wait for the coin to come down.". Really good line from JD on the late strike call.
  13. How do you find out about autograph sessions? I'm a Season Ticket holder and nobody has ever given me information about any of them.
  14. I never place "to hit a home run" bets. A few weeks ago while on the train to Wrigley, I placed an impulse bet on Bellinger to hit a home run. He hit 2 that night. Today I was watching pregame coverage on Marquee and they had a promo for Dinger Tuesdays. I thought, "I have a feeling Dansby is going to hit one tonight" and got my bet in just a few minutes before game time. He has 2 (and counting). So my question is, who should I bet on tomorrow night?
  15. How are those baserunner "oven mitts" allowed? That thing looks like it extends inches past Nico's fingertips.
  16. I have to believe they were planning on the overslot, otherwise they would have been leaving a significant chunk of money on the table that could have been used to upgrade one of their other picks.
