That was impressive (or at least sounded that way). -
The starting rotation is a problem and I truly don't think the Cubs are going to be able to withstand it. Hendricks was supposed to be the 5th starter and he is basically being relied on as the team's 2nd best remaining starter behind Steele. Assad has been very good over a short period of time, but can he sustain that? After those 3 pitchers, everything else is a dumpster fire. The offense has to be extremely good to make up for the lack of pitching, and they haven't been that for awhile now.

I think losing Stroman killed any hope of pulling away from the field. This is going to be a struggle to the finish line.

Reflecting back on happier times, remember when Drew Smyly almost threw a perfect game? Remember that? That was awesome.

I don't disagree, but his skillset still plays on a Major League roster. He's not an ideal corner outfielder to be sure, but his 20 Million isn't going to kill them over the next 3 seasons. I'm much more concerned over the accumulation of bad deals like Taillon, Smyly, Barnhart, Mancini.

Canario with his 5th home run in 116 AAA at bats. I have no idea where he fits in with this Cubs roster going forward, but I'm happy to see him healthy and hitting again. -
I have never been a Happ fan, and even less so this season, but his contract is well down the list of signings to complain about. He probably shouldn't be batting third, but he's a solid enough player and he will likely be fine over the life of his deal.

You do realize Wicks didn't HAVE to start on the 18th, right? I'm not saying he should have been the guy tonight, but you keep making a point that is completely irrelevant because he wouldn't have been on short rest if the Cubs wanted him to make the start.

This has to be the end of Smyly for this year. Put him on the DL or stash him in the pen, but he can't start another game. Try to figure things out in the offseason to get something from him next year, but now is not the time.

Statistically speaking, I don't see how it could possibly be the right move. That's not to say that it couldn't have worked, but they decreased their chances of winning the game by walking him. They were lucky that Marte didn't score on the double,

Maybe it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but intentionally walking the tying run with 2 outs was really stupid.

And Chapman gives up the tying run in the Bottom of the 9th. For a supposedly good team, the Rangers kinda suck.
