  1. Reds lose. That gives the Cubs a little breathing room ahead of them. Now we just need the same from Arizona and/or Miami.
  2. Velasquez really has 14 HR in 130 at bats??? Yikes! Seriously, good for him though. It wasn't going to happen here.
  3. I thought for a second that could have been an inside the parker.
  4. Back to Canario... I know he still has holes in his swing. I know he is going to strike out a lot. I know he isn't going to play every day right now But man he just looks dangerous at the plate. With all the injuries right now, if it's a choice between him or Patrick Wisdom in the lineup, I would pencil Canario in every time.
  5. Is there a part of David Ross who didn't want Canario to do this tonight because it makes him look like an idiot?
  6. Bellinger needs to get going again. Way too many ground ball outs right now.
  7. Does anyone range further to his right than Bellinger at 1B? Occasionally it has caused a problem, but it was the only chance there and a really nice play.
  8. I don't know if I have ever seen that before, but sure seems like it should be interference.
  9. The bad news is Smyly is going to be hugely overpaid next year. The good news is this version of him does actually have SOME value and is worth having in the pen.
  10. Nice bounce back inning there. I don't love him going through the top of the order again, but at least there's a cushion.
  11. Absolutely. The pain of likely losing Bellinger is lessened by Seiya breaking out offensively.
  12. I stand corrected. REALLY shaky and giving up rockets. Ross needs to have someone ready in the 4th/5th.
  13. I wonder if there are any tweaks that can be made to the waiver rules? Regardless of whether or not these guys can play in the playoffs, it doesn't seem right for late-season salary dumps to be potentially impacting playoff races. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/09/marlins-claim-matt-moore-from-guardians.html
  14. This latest injury reinforces that the Cubs can't count on Madrigal for anything going forward. For 2024 and beyond, he is nothing more than roster depth. Even when he is playing well enough, it's only a matter of time before he goes down with a hamstring injury again. "All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again."
  15. I disagree on the second point though. Young showed himself to be completely overwhelmed, both offensively and defensively. Despite Young's AAA numbers being slightly better, I just can't wrap my head around him being able to contribute more than Mervis over the next 2 weeks. And if this does accurately reflect how the Cubs organization views Mervis, then they probably have to trade him for whatever low level minor leaguer they can get this offseason. It doesn't make sense to dedicate a 40 man roster spot to a 26 year old AAA first baseman who is that low on the depth chart.
  16. What the horsefeathers? Why? There's not having a high opinion of a guy and then there's just shooting yourself in the foot.
  17. Well, that lineup is mixing things up a bit, so I'm all for it. Over/under 1.5 on Canario at bats tonight before he gets pinch hit for with Tauchman?
