Eh, he was probably stealing second anyway so not a complete disaster. Still a mistake though. -
We always say just get into the playoffs and anything can happen. With this bullpen, that is simply not true.

Bunting with your hottest hitter (and slowest runner on base) is another issue altogether...

For me, the move to pinch-hit Wisdom for PCA was defensable when looked at as a single move at that point in time. I do believe Wisdom gave the Cubs a better chance to score a run (or runs) in that situation. The problem was PCA being in the game to begin with. Yes, he is a defensive upgrade over Tauchman, but the Cubs were facing a Braves offense that was almost certain to mount some form of comeback. Even when the Cubs were up 6-0, it was too early in the game to be giving up offensive production when it was still entirely possibly that they might (and did) end up needing a few more runs to win the game. Had Tauchman stayed in the game, the Cubs could have pinch hit Wisdom for him instead, then brought PCA in for defense in the 8th inning when it really mattered. Would things have been different with him in CF? Probably. But we'll never know for sure.

I wonder if the whole PCA situation has caused any friction between Hoyer and Ross. I could absolutely see Ross feeling like he had a guy forced on him and had to play him in certain situations that have backfired.

And by "pretty bad", you mean about as bad as a baserunner can possibly be. Like, it's extremely difficult to have as big a negative impact as he has in his limited time on the bases.

I do really feel for Seiya. I'm upset that the Cubs lost the game, but now he is the scapegoat if they miss the playoffs and that will follow him for the rest of his Cubs career. That isn't fair to him, but it won't be forgotten.

I guess "coasted" would be a better description. It didn't have the look of a typical play where a fielder loses the ball in the lights. According to Seiya, he saw it until the very last second. He is visibly upset in the post game interview. It was hard to watch.

Oh by the way, this was entirely predictable.

Yeah, I mean every move he made tonight turned to horsefeathers. It isn't his fault Seiya dropped the ball, but his management of PCA has been inexplicable.
