I agree. I don't really like a division winner having to play in the Wild Card round, but I don't think we're ever going back. Leagues never decrease the number of playoff teams. It only goes up. I thought I would like the 3 game series as opposed to the one-and-done, but after seeing the new format in action I think we have lost a lot of excitement from the one-and-done but also from the regular season tiebreaker scenarios.

Yet another round where not a single series goes the distance, and now another 2 day gap without any games. These playoffs have really sucked.

So the Bears swapped their high 7th round pick for a low 6th round pick. How much is a 5-10 spot move in the 6th/7th round actually worth? Not nothing, but pretty close to it.

I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but Alonso has also changed representation over to Scott Boras, so any idea of a trade + immediate extension is probably out the window. If a team trades for him, they are trading for 1 year and then he hits the open market.

According to the article I just read, the Mets would have to have either PCA or Horton as a centerpiece in the deal. There is a world in which PCA is expendable if the Cubs are able to re-sign Bellinger to play CF. But not for a guy with 1 year remaining on his contract. There is no world where I would trade Horton for anything but a cost-controlled star.

It is definitely too early to make any conclusions about the new format, but it will be interesting to see whether the near 50/50 split holds over time regardless of home field advantage.

It looks like we are currently on track for every Wild Card series to be over in 2 games, with every game being decided by 2 or more runs. Not exactly compelling baseball.

I think it's pretty clear that Mervis doesn't factor into the Cubs long term plans. McGeary is a fringe prospect at best right now. Whatever the Cubs decide to do at 1B, those two guys will have very little to do with the decision.
