  1. Comcast is static and jumpy all of a sudden. Least reliable cable company ever.
  2. Just get that first pitch swinging out your systems the first time up to the plate, Cubs... No need to flail against the worst pitcher in the division.
  3. 5 pitch inning for Kip Wells. You must be kidding me.
  4. There is very little chance that the originator of the rumor was anything other than a troll trying to get a rise out of some desperate fans. Claiming to have sources close to a major player, doing so in your first post, these things point to only one conclusion.
  5. Which is what you should do. So you are confirming that you haven't heard anything about this? I would be absolutely shocked if this actually happened. Trolls start trade rumors on blogs at every trade deadline. Did anyone check whether this was the blogger's first post (or one of them)?
  6. Considering the way the Cubs were winning was smoke and mirrors, I think you might expect a big cold streak coming up. It isn't really true that the wins were smoke and mirrors. They won quite a few one run games, but even at the height of the cold streak, they were below the expected record. They really have been a solid team, but maybe not quite enough.
  7. And that's the game. I have a feeling that we won't be seeing the comeback Cubs for a while. They were due for a cold streak anyway.
  8. Thank God Lee is back tomorrow. the Cubs still need to add a bat, though.
  9. The main problem is that most of the contact they are making is crap. Weak grounders, foul pop outs, etc. 90% chance that the Cubs will be shut out today.
  10. Even when they hit the ball well, they are out. The only way they are going to score today is with a HR, and they aren't really hitting for power right now.
  11. I wonder if Fred could dig up stats on the Cubs average runs scored against pitchers above and below league average ERA.
  12. A drive to LF wasn't what I had in mind, but it worked.
  13. Ugh. Marshall walks Hudson. No more two out runs by the DBacks, Marshall. The team isn't going to score much today, you need to be good.
  14. I have no doubt that Hendry is trying to do something about it, but I do doubt that what he does will be smart or sufficient.
  15. I think you've lost. The Cubs need to get some baserunners though.
  16. When he was pitching with pain, an article said he had been pitching at 45 mph. Whether that meant that he couldn't do more than a toss, or he just couldn't throw it hard even from the mound, I think it was pretty clear that, if he was still feeling pain, he wouldn't have a chance to pitch effectively at all, even in Mesa. That makes me think he probably isn't pitching through the pain.
  17. stay hot, fontenot And Jones, and Theriot, and Ramirez. And snap out of it, Soriano, Kendall.
  18. How do I get in on this action? Ryne has developed an affection for The Riot. You just did. The more you post in the game thread, the better your chances. This raffle thing is really just a cover for Vance to find his protege to take over the top posting spot for him when he leaves.
  19. While it is true that 3/5 of the rotation is shaky, there is no definite spot in the rotation that getting a top pitcher would be a huge upgrade over. Hill and Marshall both have the potential to struggle or pitch well over the rest of the season, and though Marquis is unlikely to be as lucky as he was in the first half, he isn't as great a weakness as SS, C, RF, and CF. There is a chance one of the three has a complete meltdown during the second half, but there is very little chance we will get any production from several positions. That's why the team needs a bat more than a starter.
  20. That seems possible. But if he's been pain free for a month, then maybe he'll be able to stay that way for a while, as long as he keeps treating the injury.
  21. Don't you have a wife and a kid? http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/neglect If you'd find some personality, you might be able to have one too. You mean the daughter I never see b/c I'm too busy posting 30,000+ times? I see my daughter plenty. Took her to the zoo this afternoon after the Cubs game. We had a great time. Would you like to see pics? Absolutely. I think everyone is looking forward to them. Who doesn't want to see pictures of Broadway, Madison, St. Charles Street or whatever her name is? I'm game. Kids at the zoo push me into that happy place. You know. Umpalumpas, chocolate rivers, and glass elevators. What the hell happened to you today? Calm down and take a break.
  22. But what if Posada has to do a 15 day DL stint, or even if he is out for just a week. Wouldn't that have the potential to compound the damage? That's possible. A DL trip for Posada would increase the importance of the back up. But the chances that he'll suffer an injury that would give the back up substantially more playing time are small, which makes it a relatively unimportant acquisition still.
