I'd hardly call this confirmation. Kiley doesn't list any source, not even an "unnamed source," so the chances are pretty good that his projection is based on nothing more than his expectations.

This was writeen by Carrie Muskat, so it probably means nothing. I don't think there is any new news about Wood in this article, and I kind of doubt Carrie Muskat knows that much that we don't.

According to the link at the top, those stats are from his games at age 22. He must have turned 23 after the minor league season was over.

I would imagine you would agree that we can't go into the 2005 season with this for an outfield: (assuming Patterson will be traded) Jacque Jones Juan Pierre Matt Murton Jerry Hairston John Mabry That might be one of the worst outfields ever assembled. And yet it could still quite possibly outproduce the numbers from 2005. Patterson was so bad last year, Pierre would have to have a second extreme down year in a row to be as bad. Jones probably won't be any better than Burnitz, but there is a good chance Murton can outproduce the filth that came from LF last year. Plus, the OF bench would probably be better.

Well, it was reported that Hendry looked into getting Bradley and Wilkerson. Perhaps the asking price was too high. We'll never know exactly why those deals didn't happen.

He has no choice but to remain with the Cubs for three (or maybe it was two) more years. MLB rules. He can't leave for free agency until his arby years are over. I think it is fairly pointless to speculate as to what Prior will want to do three years from now.

Hopefully the O's FO is a dumb as many people think they are and they keep holding out for more until Hendry finally moves on. If there is one thing we know about Hendry it is that he doesn't move on. He tried to trade for Barrett two times before Beane helped him out. He waited all Winter for Maddux to sign. He waited way, way too long for McGriff to make up his mind. He tried to get Burnitz a couple of times. Hendry is pitbull like once he locks on to a player. Now that does not mean the trade will happen, everyone has their limits. But Hendry doesn't move on. He doesn't give up easily, but at least it could delay a trade past the offseason. Which could potentially lead to a much differenct final deal than what we are talking about now.

It would be unfair to say that that's all he does. He also just plain makes stuff up, too. I'm sure no one has forgotten the time he said a slugger OF was going to be traded to the Cubs any day now. He still hasn't ever followed up on that.

I was looking at it the other way. The study shows what a worthless (read: luck related/teammate dependant) stat ERA is. For relievers, at least.

We'd have Bedard too. O's fans think they are getting shafted in that proposed deal. They want something like Prior + Pie/Murton for Tejada or Prior + Pie + Hill + Cedeno for Tejada and Bedard. And that is because they overvalue Tejada. I don't care what the perception is around baseball message boards, Prior is better than Tejada. Prior may have gotten injured a few times, but Tejada is vastly overrated.

Because Prior is better, younger, and cheaper than Tejada. The O's probably wouldn't ordinarily give him up for just prospects, and I don't expect them to do it now, but I wouldn't consider trading a young cheap starter for an old expensive shortstop, especially when we already have a player who is very cheap and should fill in decently. Heck, I'd let Neifi play SS before I'd trade Prior for Tejada.

Prior will win at LEAST 2 Cy's in Baltimore. At least. Leave it to Hendry to make the rotation a strength, then make it a glaring weakness at the expense of a 30 year old shortstop on the downturn. And then people wonder why he gets criticized. Maybe its pointless to point this out, but the trade hasn't actually been agreed to yet. This wouldn't be the first time Levine and the sports media have been very wrong about something. If this trade does happen, it will probably be by far the worst deal Hendry has made. But if I remember correctly, someone said Levine was still reporting it as a 50/50 chance that any kind of trade gets made.

It looks like the biggest difference between pre and post injury Prior was hits allowed. Despite striking out more batters per 9 after the injury, he gave up more many more hits. I wonder what the BABIP of the batters he faced was pre and post injury... The walks had something to do with it too, but I thought he got hit a lot harder as far as HR/9 went after his injury. I guess not.

Most O's fans think that Tejada is worth more than Prior. Most O's fans are crazy then. According to the various rumors, the O's want both Prior and Pie for Tejada (if they can't get Zambrano instead of Prior), whereas the Cubs don't want to give up Pie and won't make the deal without getting Bedard. That said, I don't believe that these people really know the specifics of any trade proposals. Maybe they do, I'm just doubtful.

Show me the last pitcher who had a mediocre season and won 20 games. Pitching very well is a pre-req for winning 20 games. Usually it is, but I think we can agree that that still doesn't make it the best way to judge a pitcher. I probably would get excited if Prior won 20 games, but only because it is a cool milestone that I think he would deserve if he managed to pull it off on this team..

If Prior were to be completely healthy in 2006 and not show any improvement in his shaky control that was evident after he came back from the line drive, that would lower his value. If he loses his stuff and fails to strike out hitters like he has, that would lower his value. If he is generally hit hard despite a completely healthy season, I would wonder if the injuries have caused permanent damage to his ability to be effective. Otherwise, I will still regard him as capable of Cy Young Award winning type numbers.

I'd say it is the other way around for this organization. They have made many trades for good players which cost the team fairly little, but consistently overpay bench players and mediocre FAs.
