  1. FoxSports is not very reliable, and we are talking about a business that is very unreliable as a whole. I really doubt that FoxSports has the specifics of any trade proposal that might exist at this point. Did you read the article? It was from a Baltimore Sun sports writer and quoted an O's front office member. Sure Foxsports may not be reliable, but this is starting to sound like a complete mess from the Cubs standpoint. Where did it quote anyone from any official position? All I saw was "industry source." In the hands of many sports writers, that can can mean a lot of things.

  3. Yeah, someone else came up with that theory earlier. If that is his strategy, it is working.
  4. Jones will be bad, but I don't expect Corey to be any better. He isn't going to improve by sitting on the bench and filling in when Jacque slumps.
  5. Oh...my...God. I didn't even think about that. This will haunt us forever. Forget Brock. Forget Maddux. Forget all of it. That would be really bad. On the other hand, I'd have a new team to watch every couple of days.
  6. Did I miss something? Have they been good the last couple of years? And Prior has been injured or very mediocre during this time period. What is is that we are so desperatly holding onto? a .500 team? No, that would be a young Cy young caliber pitcher. Bad teams can have good players. You don't trade your good players to get better, unless they happen to be redundant or the talent you get is obviously much much better.
  7. Looks like Prior is indeed on the table. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but does this sound like the Cubs would rather trade Prior than Pie? UUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHH. I'm pretty sure that the Cubs don't want to trade Prior AND Pie. That makes sense. If Hendry was willing to give them up for Tejada and Bedard, that would easily be the worst trade of the year for all teams. My guess is that the Orioles aren't interested in getting just Pie as the main part of the deal.
  8. Is that all they said? I doubt that they are basing it on anything more than the rumors we have heard. ESPN is not known for getting the scoop.
  9. Bruce usually only chimes in when he has a new article out. Personally, I think he should hang out here at least 5 hours a day. Only five hours? I wonder how much he would charge to just hang out here all day and give us information on demand...
  10. No, there is no real substance. Someone on this message board said that an unnamed source they know told them that Prior is sick of the organization and wants to leave. No names or explanations given, just the assertion and the unnamed source.
  11. So you're giving all the positives of Zito and then describing Prior only as a guy who hasn't pitched a full season. I don't get the point. Are we talking about some third rate middle relief prospect coming of back to back tommy john surgeries? Are we talking about a 20 year old starting pitcher? Zito- full package Prior- full package The majority of baseball would value Prior higher. Yeah, but how many wins does he have? Not you too. CubbieRich? Please tell me my sarcasm meter is busted. I'm pretty sure that it is.
  12. Are you the guy who has that problem with his keyboard at work? I kind of doubt that Hendry would try to gauge the reaction that way. My guess is that either a) someone just made something up, or b) some person lower down that Hendry talks to told someone else. (much quieter) yes I am, I appologize I am just wishfully thinking Hendry is testing the waters so to speak..this trade idea makes me physically sick Quite possible. Perhaps they're trying to motivate Prior a little?? Who knows. Motivate him to do what? Dodge better?
  13. God I am sick of seeing this garbage. Here's what you should do, go into every political thread and tell everyone to shutup, because they dont know what they're doing anymore than President Bush. I mean, if we aren't smart enough to be a GM of a baseball team, obviously we arent smart enough to challenge the leader of the nation. This just really gets under my skin. If your boss does something you dont agree with, do you just swallow it up? You dont have to be smarter or more capable than someone to disagree with them. Thankfully Hendry does not have the power to cut our health care services or send us to war.
  14. Interesting in the sense of gut wrenching? I couldn't stand it if they traded Prior. Not only is he my favorite player (not a great reason, I know) but I really doubt that we'd improve as a result.

  16. At this point, I would be ecstatic if Hendry does nothing, as long as we keep Prior.
  17. Dusty has never been a fan of pitchers. He doesn't know what to do with them, both starters and relievers (of course he doesn't know what to do with hitters either). The biggest thing that concerns me is that no one in the Cubs organization has come out to refute this rumor. When Hill and Pie were bandied about during the winter meetings, Hendry came out and said that they were untouchable. I would like with a star pitcher like Prior he would have called up Levine/Rosenthal and said the same thing. [desperate wailing] BUT I DON'T WANT PRIOR TO GO!!! HE'S MY FAVORITE!!![/desperate wailing] After the Prior/Abreu rumors, Hendry said that Prior would not be traded this offseason. Obviously, that was before this rumor was ever reported. I doubt that this deal, if the offer actually exists, happens. Also, I second the desperate wailing.
  18. How quick we are to forget how much time Prior missed in 2004. Since then Prior hasn't been exactly "lighting it up" either. One major non-improbable injury does not make him a foregone conclusion to be on the DL. He was very good for the first part of the 2005 season, but understandably had a hard time coming back from a fluke injury. I think there is a good chance that he will be mostly healthy in 2006, and if he is, he should be very effective. Very Very very effective. Let's not forget his unbelievable 2003: IP H R ER HR BB SO W L SV HLD BLSV ERA 211.1 183 67 57 15 50 245 18 6 0 0 --2.43 You have to love that K:BB ratio.

  20. 03 was a long time ago. Not a good idea to rely on some of our aces who have been injured the past two years. I can understand saying that about Wood, but Prior? I don't think line drives to the elbow are a frequently recurring injury.
  21. Dear NSBB, I may have no idea what the heck I'm talking about as far as baseball goes, but at least I haven't talked about vomiting or taking my own life because of a baseball team several times a day. Edward K., Indianapolis Ignorance is bliss. Or agony, depending on how you define it.
  22. Exagerations have been made, outrage has been magnified. You can't deny that. It isn't ridiculous to say that the Cubs currently have no good options on the team at RF, but it is premature to say that Hendry will definitely not improve the position and that the team will fail miserably. From now on, whenever anybody wants to whine, just post this: This way, we won't all be looking through the same post 5000 times. Considering Hendry's past offseason and lack of OF options out there there is a very good reason to be concerned about the Cubs in 2006. Who are you tell us if we are whining? What exactly should be happy about? Hendry has done a poor job as I see it. If you don't look at the facts that is your problem. We don't need you to tell us what to post. Concerned? Sure. Convinced of the inevitablilty of the Cubs being a sub .500 team? I don't know. Also, don't tell me that I don't look at the facts. That is not true. We both look at facts, the difference is what we see in those facts. I see that the offseason is not yet over, and that it is entirely possible that the team's problems will be adressed. You seem to see the Cubs failing.

  24. Is there anyone at all who fits those parameters and is available?
