  1. They don't usually add to their lead before a loss though.
  2. Wow. When was the last time anyone here said "not to complain" without sarcasm? Our bench is really getting thinned out. Dusty could have sent Murton up there though.
  3. I lose. :( It was really close though.
  4. Just put something in your sig that says you have to. Itll clear up further issues. Is it really an issue? Its like the 5th time someone has said "easy on the caps" ....Word choice police? Where?! :o
  5. WHY IS HE CRYING NOW? Z BRUSH HIM BACK? Easy on the caps lock there, buddy. When at work he has to have them on I think. YES I DO. I APPOLOGIZE.... In that case, forget about it.

  7. Look at Rodriguez's eyes. Has he been getting into Edmonds locker?
  8. Good idea. Hendry can put you in charge of finding an available great defensive catcher who also has an above average bat and a salary of $4,000,000 or less. So just because Barrett is pretty good compared to others, his weaknesses should be ignored. I get what you're saying - I don't think we could find a realistic "upgrade" either. But if defense is the flaw is Barrett's game, who's to say it couldn't be worked on? I agree that Barrett should work on his defense, but as CPatterson20 said, BobRoss said we could use an upgrade. That's what I was responding to.
  9. Double post.

  11. I disagree. I don't think either of us have proof that Barrett is or isn't the cause of the pitching woes this team has had, which leaves us with the issue of his defense. He hasn't been great, but considering his offensive numbers, I'm willing to let that go. He is 5th among catchers in the MLB in VORP, and he is showing a capability to take pitches and draw walks. Considering all of this, unless it is proven that he is the cause of the pitcher's problems, I think his offensive output more than makes up for his fielding.
  12. But Dempster has only been this good for about 2/3 of a season. He'll get a raise, but Dempster lacks the reputation of being a sure thing. No player is really a sure thing, but since Dempster hasn't had results like this in his entire career, I don't think he will draw as much attention or money as Wagner. If the Cubs can't sign him for a reasonable amount, Wood could take his chances as the closer, but I think they'll be able to bring him back.
  13. Dempster has been good, but i still find a way not to believe in the guy. My heartbeat increases when he goes in the game depending on if hes wild or not. When he gets ahead he is a very good pitcher. I think he never will be a dominant closer. I really think we should go out and get a guy like Billy Wagner this offseason or switch to wood because i believe he will be dominant, its worked with Gagne, Smoltz, Schilling, Dotel (sort of) Dempster has done very well so far. There is no guarantee that he can be dominant, but it's worth a shot. There are better ways to spend 6-8 million dollars than on a closer, and if Wood's surgery is successful, he can probably help the team more in the rotation than from the bullpen. Without him, the Cubs' 2006 rotation looks like this: Prior Zambrano Maddux Williams Hill I don't know about you, but I don't think that's going to be enough.
  14. Am I the only one who doesn't think that Kerry should be the closer? First, he'll probably be back in the rotation next year, and if the surgery is successful, I don't see why he can't be our third starter. If our rotation wasn't thinning out, I'd keep him in the pen, but unless we can sign Burnett or some other solid starter, we can't afford not to move him back to the rotation next season. Second, Dempster has finally found a spot where he can be successful. He may be able to pitch well out of the pen from any inning, but he hasn't been nearly as good anywhere as he has been as our closer. Until he shows he's lost that, I see no reason to replace him.
  15. I was in the right-center bleachers yesterday, and there was some scattered booing of every Cardinal player, including Pujols.
  16. What are Cedeno's career minor league numbers like? What do the scouts have to say about him? I know he's done a great job in half a year at AAA this year, but what are his other qualifications? The organization can't hand the shortstop job to just anyone.
  17. But he's young and Dusty Baker doesn't play him very often, so he must be good! Seriously though, he's done very well in AAA this year. I don't think his career minor league numbers are that great, and I don't think that he has ever been ranked as a top prospect, but I'm not sure. He hasn't played very well in the majors, but he hasn't gotten many AB's either, so we don't know how he'd do as the starting shortstop. He couldn't be too much worse than Perez, but I'd still like to have a back up plan for Cedeno.
  18. Oh, of course the players could never be responsible for their own sloppy play and failure. What was Jim thinking?
  19. When was the last time the Cubs weren't losing badly by the 6th?
  20. I agree that what a bunch of people on a message board say has no affect on the franchise. I have said as much on this board before.
  21. Who is this directed at? Also, do you think whining is going to make them play better or get rid of Baker faster? DLee with a nice scoop there.
  22. Can't spell Kearns without a K either...
