  1. You think the Cubs will score against Webb? Mr. Positivity... Zambrano PH HR You know Dusty won't use Zambrano as a PH. Especially not when he has Neifi Perez! Who do you think are you kidding? Neifi is getting the start, of course!
  2. Amazing how he just found his stroke at the plate as soon as he left the Cubs. Yeah, he's hitting well. Still can't get that OBP up there though. He started very well, but he sort of fell off. I wouldn't call .281/.313/.417 finding his stroke. It is better than what he was doing with the Cubs, but that line is not very good.
  3. I bet that Pierre will be ahead of Patterson in 2 of those 3 categories by the end of the season. He is catching up-very fast. Your on. I think I would have to put my money on JP in this wager as well. Pierre is already ahead of Patterson in average and OBP as of right now, unless Pierre or Patterson changed that with their performances today.
  4. The pitcher tried to pick Cedeno off at second, and they had him in a run down. While they were doing that, Pagan scored.
  5. I like it when Derwood doesn't post in my game threads. maybe if your avatar was that new UCLA recruit getting his skin pulled off.... btw, 4 pages in the Game Thread before the game has started? When did people start caring again? It's probably duye to Rich Hill getting the start. I know I usually only post in the game threads when Prior starts, so I'd bet some people really want to see Hill. It'll peter out when he gives up 10 runs in the first inning.
  6. Cedeno has been terrible, and probably is comparable to or worse than Neifi right now, but this is his first season in the majors and he isn't going to improve by sitting on the bench.
  7. Obviously the Mets couldn't hit him, so it was probably an improvement. I don't think his stuff looked as good as it used to be, but he threw some curves that were reminiscent of the glory days. His velocity was generally in the low 90s for the fastball.
  8. ... and also no ...... uh...... er........ hit batsmen. Yeah, that's it..... No hit batsmen !! If you are worried about the jinx, don't. He's at 53 thru 3 and would be lucky to finish 6 today. Not hitting any batters actually is a substantial achievement after Prior's last outing.
  9. Early in the game, Brenly said Prior's fastball was generally around 90-92, and he hasn't mentioned it since, that I can remember. Prior has looked a lot better than his previous starts. His control is still off, thus the 3 BBs, but it isn't nearly as bad as was Friday. His pitches are missing, but they aren't out of control. His stuff is pretty good, he seems to be fooling the Mets. They haven't hit the ball very hard.
  10. Prior doesn't have his best stuff today, but he looks a heck of a lot better than he has this season.
  11. I have doubts that we could get Abreu for Barrett straight up, but even if we could: Barrett's 2006: .335/.397/.544 Abreu's 2006: .284/.434/.445 So far, Barrett is having a better year than Abreu. In addition, he is a catcher, while Abreu is a corner OF, and Barrett is 29, while Abreu is 32. I wouldn't say that Barrett is going to keep his numbers this high in the future, or that he has had a better career than Abreu (definitely not), but right now, I don't know if I would trade one of the best hitting catchers in the majors for a good but declining and very expensive corner OF. Abreu would be a good addition, but is he worth giving up Barrett.
  12. I'll bet a grammar text book. shut up. Don't tell other posters to shut up. The correct response is, "no, you shut up."
  13. That was NOT Barrett's fault. That pitch was barely within his reach. Sure it was, the hitter wasn't even in danger of being hit by the pitch. Barrett just raised his glove and missed it. I just rewinded my tivo, clearly catchable. On the replay, it looked catchable, but a lot of catchers could have missed that pitch.
  14. That was NOT Barrett's fault. That pitch was barely within his reach.
  15. And a runner scores from third on a wild pitch.
  16. Mark Prior could still end up being a great pitcher, regardless of his many problems. He's only 25, after all. I'll admit though, it is a funny caption.
  17. Beat me to it. At least Hill would get some starts that way. Is shutting down uninjured players really going to help them get ready for next season? They should go easy on Zambrano, Ramirez, and Barrett, but why would you shut them down? They'd still have to catch up from their inactive period, and that could cause some problems.
  18. Does anyone actually believe that where a player hits in the batting order has a major affect on how they hit?
  19. After which they would lose every game for the rest of the season, finishing with over 100 losses.
  20. The question isn't will the Cubs win, but will this thread MAKE it to four pages? My fan loyalty for Mark will not allow me to let this thread fall under four pages. I'm prepared to post pointless spam if need be.
  21. This has to be the least active game thread ever. It's already the bottom of the 2nd, and there hasn't been a single post during the game.
  22. He'd better not end up being hurt. It took him about a minute before he was ready to get back to the plate, and he didn't look that comfortable going down to first.
  23. This thread has already beaten the last one in # of posts, and it has been a very quick game. What are the chances that Boof shuts the Cubs out? He's already more than half way there.
  24. That is not a brain cramp. With the Cubs, that is a way of life. And he was out by 10+ feet He definitely wasn't out by ten feet, but there is no way he should have been stealing there. I wonder if Dusty called that, or if he just decided to take it upon himself to waste a hit.
  25. First, I was happy Womack was hurt because he was out of the lineup. Then I was sad that he was injured, and guilty about feeling good about it. Then I was depressed because it meant Neifi would get a lot more time. :(
