  1. Well, the Cubs got screwed a couple of times by the umpires. They also failed to come through with a hit when they had their chance several times, and blew their lead. Not much to say about this one. They played mediocre baseball, and the Brewers, with some help, were better. This was a pretty disappointing game. We will most likely be seeing a lot more of those this season.
  2. Mostly they've been good. Just a few have consistently blown the games. Cherry can now join the illustrious ranks with Ohman and Eyre. I can't blame the pen for this one. They were decent, though not great, through the first 4.2 innings of work. The hitters just couldn't pull it off.
  3. About 50 more feet and that would have had a chance.
  4. That is never a good idea. You'd think every play was either the worst or the best in the history of baseball. Plus you can't really get much of a PbP. Howry looked OK this inning.
  5. i love game threads He isn't. 259/310/556 coming into this game That .310 is more telling to me than the .556. DeRosa is on pace for over 30 homers, and we know he isn't going to do that, so the SLG will drop quite a bit. Nobody's stats this early are going to be telling. His SLG will drop, his BA and OBP will rise. His OPS will drop, but he'll still be a decent 2B, most likely.
  6. Damn you Lee. Yea Aramis! No damning Lee, he was safe easily
  7. Eventually, yes. This year, I doubt that Pie would be an improvement over Jones. The only way I would make that trade this year is if a) Pie is on fire in AAA near the deadline or b) we can get comparable value back for Jones. As much as he has struggled, he really isn't a worthless player, especially considering that his contract is relatively small.
  8. Except that Miller is pitching tomorrow, so the Cardinals should have a great chance to make up some of those runs.
  9. Cedeno with a HR. This must be bizarro world Cedeno.
  10. At least it isn't switching to the Yankees game.
  11. This seems like it probably screws Murton. With Soriano back, there would be three people to play LF. Unless they decide Murton can play RF or that they'd rather have Murton backing up Soriano than Floyd, he would be the odd man out.
  12. Oh Jebus, they had better not let Ohman pitch for more than one at bat in a close game. He has blown it every time.
  13. Last I heard, Prior was fully healthy and ready to go full speed with the rest of the team. Yep. Heard the same thing. Is this for real or is it a sick joke? Unfortunately I'll never be able to make myself give up on Prior. It's a sick joke. As of yesterday... http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070417&content_id=1914512&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Not cool guys....not cool. I think they were talking about the reports that Prior was 100% going into spring training. We haven't really gotten a confirmation of any specific issue since then.
  14. No question. I'd rather be short on LHP (with Eyre's status questionable) than have to watch another inning of Ohman. He should never face righties.
  15. I hate Ohman. Even when the conditions are the best possible, he finds a way.
  16. What are the odds that Ohman manages to get out of an inning without giving up a run?
  17. Actually, he made decent contact in his first two ABs, but the ball didn't seem to be carrying well today. After that, he didn't look so good. I'd have to agree that without Ramirez, and assuming that Soriano must bat leadoff, then is no good way to construct the lineup. Hopefully Ramirez will recover quickly.
  18. Thank god he can't come up with runners on base. Ironically, a GIDP would have been OK in his last AB.
  19. Your jokes are almost as bad as the Cubs' offense today. :D I think you are overestimating the offense.
  20. The thing is, it didn't really have to be a perfect throw, there was a decent chance Soriano would have been out. There is no good reason to risk that with nobody out and a man on third. Quade's call was the right one at the time. In retrospect, it would have been nice if Soriano had run home and beaten the throw, but you shouldn't assume that the middle of your order will K if you are the 3rd base coach.
