  1. As has been said about 1,000,000 times, when will Lou learn not to bring Scott Eyre into the ballgame in close situations? This is just asinine. This is the reason the Cubs are so far under their expected record.
  2. Wuertz warming up to pitch the 7th again, woohoo Who cares when he pitches? All that matters is what situation he comes in, and Lou is showing that he is willing to bring Wuertz in for close games (as he should be).
  3. Because the prize that goes to the winner of the Fecal League is the number one pick in next year's draft.
  4. And Ohman manages to pull the rabbit out of his hat. I still hate his guts.
  5. Ohman in with the bases loaded? Will Pinellia ever learn not to use Ohman in close games?
  6. Food poisoning goes away after a few days. The Cubs keep coming back (and I don't mean on the scoreboard) "it's like herpes" ? I think the right term here is recurring cancer.
  7. This is no contest. Howry has had some trouble this year, but has had much more career success out of the pen than Eyre. Howry is a legitimte set up guy (this year not withstanding), while Eyre just had a good contract year, and was not very consistent overall. EDIT: On second thought, I would like to agree with the previous poster and change my vote to Will Ohman.
  8. This team has enough talent to be mediocre. Considering the payroll, it should be a lot better than that, but this team is not the 2006 Cubs. They're more like the 2005 Cubs. Mediocre with a glimmer of hope for success, but ultimately horrendous underperformers who choke away close games.
  9. The great thing about baseball is that it is played almost every day. This loss will fade in about a week into the blur of underachievement that is every Cubs season. Who knows, maybe they will even manage to win tomorrow, and this will be forgotten entirely. That whole thing is why losses before off days are so hard. Multiply that by 100 to find out why playoff losses suck.
  10. They are probably the greatest underperforming Cubs team in recent history. In 2006, they had the excuse that they were legitimately awful. In 2004, they choked, but at least had a pretty strong overall season. Now, they have decent talent, and they still can't manage to be .500 in the worst division in baseball.
  11. Gotta love it. Another baserunning mistake costs us the game. Really though, the blame can't lie on Lee for that. The pen shouldn't have melted down. Lily should have pitched better. The team should have capitalized on Soriano's third hit of the night. A million things could have turned this game around, and not one of them did.
  12. You're never done. It takes more than one night to cure an addiction. The only times I've been able to stop myself from watching the Cubs out of disgust is after they have been eliminated from the playoff race and the games don't matter. I'll give him a week.
  13. What inning the pitchers go in isn't that important. What matters is who comes in for close games, and yeah, Weurtz should be in there. I can't blame Lou for bringing in Howry. He's had trouble this year, but he has a strong track record of success in the pen, and that isn't something you can say for many relievers. He should have pulled him before that third hit, though.
  14. He seems to be going more down the despondent route than the rage route.
  15. Ohman never should have pitched that inning. Never. You absolutely cannot bring him in to face a righty in a close game unless the bullpen is exhausted.
  16. I hate Ohman. There is no reason to bring him in in this situation. Someone else should have been up.
  17. Does the bizarro Cubs luck extend to Izturis too?
  18. Izturis has no business swinging at a 3-1 pitch with the bases loaded, ever.
  19. Switching to the Daily Show in 2 minutes...
  20. Prior is a primadonna because he doesn't like to answer endless repetitive questions about his injuries? Or is it because he's such a soft baby for pitching through an injured shoulder for two years?
  21. Makes no sense. I don't think that was where he meant to throw it. He probably wanted it a little further below the belt.
