  1. Murton hits a hard line drive right at the LF, he doubles off Theriot who was too far off base, thinking the ball would drop.
  2. How about consecutive wild pitches for the winning run?
  3. It wasn't an avatar. Someone posted. . AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA[cut for size]HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Thanks. Would you mind editing that?
  4. Whose avatar is stretching the screen?
  5. Argh. Why couldn't they have just scored with a man on third and nobody out back in the 8th so that I could watch the Daily Show?
  6. He hit a decent line drive, can't be helped if his only solid contact of the game was right at the SS.
  7. I don't think there can be a mathematical "proof" for a formula for number of games won based on runs scored and allowed, since you can't predict run distribution with 100% accuracy. The pythagorean win record isn't a thereom, it is just an estimate created to give the smallest margin of error for the most cases. EDIT: The best evidence that the formula is accurate is simply to compare expected wins to actual wins, and determine the margin of error.
  8. Too optimistic to be a Cubs fan? Screw you, man. This is exactly the type of mentality that's been plaguing this franchise for 99 years. Why not be optimistic? We have a good team on paper, we have momentum, we were playing the dregs of the league with the Nationals. Why not a good road trip and a sweep? That was what we call sarcasm. It is a pretty common joke too, I can't believe you haven't heard that one a million times before.
  9. Why is Ohman warming up? These are the two pitchers that have consistently blown our leads to lose close games, and a big part of the reason we had such a bad record in close games. They should not be pitching in this situation.
  10. Why is Eyre pitching in a close game? How can Lou not have learned his lesson by now?
  11. In Before Lock. They are assuming that this thread will be locked because there is already another thread on this topic in the Rivalries forum. Plus at this point it is completely off topic with little hope of actually involving any more posts about Carpenter.
  12. Is there anyway to not count posts in a locked thread towards a poster's post count to discourage nagging about IBL posts? Good idea!
  13. This team is better than mediocre. Well, yes, but a .500 record is the definition of mediocre, and i think that's what he was getting at. Bingo.
  14. Is there any way to not count posts in a locked thread towards a poster's post count to discourage IBL posts?
  15. Even mediocrity is refreshing after 2006. Let's hope they can keep this streak going.
  16. If the Cubs just had stood at the plate and not swung, how many runs do you think they would have scored that inning? I'm going with 12.
  17. The sad thing is that for every good article on Prior, there are 20 almost saying outright, "His career is over, and the Cubs need to dump him ASAP. Good riddance." Paul Sullivan, a few days ago, wrote an article impying Prior was gone for good after this year, not that I'd expect any less from a journalist of his standing. What I want to know is, where are these guys getting their material? In Sullivan's article, you could tell that it wass more or less a personal disdain for Prior, due to his uncooperative attitude toward the media during his rehabs. But are they really trying to run him out of town for that? Do they really think the Cubs are going to pay him to rehab this year and then cut him before he throws a pitch?
  18. Just sending him out there to mop up, I'd guess. Ohman probably won't blow a 7 run lead.
  19. FOX is just terrible. That was an important moment in the ball game. You just don't cut out of a game you are showing with runners on base in the late innings to show another game in a market dominated by fans who don't care about the other game.
  20. Anybody have the email for complaints to FOX for its MLB presentations, or should I look it up?
  21. The projection that Pie is [expletive] awesome and should start in center field for the next 10 years. :D Let me rephrase slightly, to be more specific: By what projection is Pie estimated to be better than Jones over the couse of this season?
  22. Well, if the lineup can support Jacque Jones and Izturis, it can support Pie and Izturis. Pie's OPS is currently higher than Jacque's, and it projects to be slightly higher than Jacque's. Based on each player's current OPS, substituting Pie for Jones would result in about 16 more runs over the course of a season. Using Jones' current OPS to predict his production for the rest of the season is absurd. He has only had 77 ABs, and he started the year on a cold streak. He will not maintain such a poor OPS for the entire year. He may revert to his pre 2006 production, but he may regress less than that. What projection are you using to estimate that Pie will bat better than Jones over the course of a season?
  23. Terrible pitch to swing at, especially after the pitcher walks the last two batters.
