  1. He's hitting at least 90. I'm sorry, the info in that article, official or not, is wrong. Isn't it probable that the info just comes from two different guns? Prior's stuff certainly seemed more effective today, but that doesn't prove the faster gun was right. I think we'll get a better idea of where his velocity at his next start.
  2. Even if Prior does continue to show significant progress, which I think is likely, will Prior have put in his reps in time for the start of the season? The most pitches he has thrown in one start is 59 (today), and he has probably no more than one appearance left in ST. How is he going to go from less than 60 pitches to 100 pitches in time for the regular season? I guess Lou could put him on a lower pitch count, but it seems like Prior will need at least an extra start or two before he builds up to the requisite number of pitches for a major league start.
  3. I'm actually kind of glad I won't be able to watch this one. The chances that Prior will be shelled are pretty large, and I don't need to see that again. Hopefully he improves his command and velocity a little more and make some progress towards his comeback, even if he sucks today.
  4. It would be cool to hear Lou and an ump go at each other but the microphone would probably be turned off or the content edited. :? This seems like it could possibly make watching a game mor annoying. ESPN already has too many bells and whistles in its presentation, they don't need more. The only thing I need to hear from the ump in balls and strikes, and that comes across clearly enough.
  5. DeRosa has never played a full season, let alone proven to be good over a full season. SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2006 Tex 136 520 78 154 40 2 13 74 44 102 4 4 .296 .357 .456 .813 I can't remember how to get it to line up, but you get the point. He was solid for one more or less full season last year. Beyond that, he's pretty much been a bench guy.
  6. And that looks like it might be it. CBS Sportsline also has that, as I mentioned a while ago on the last page...
  7. ?? Also, Al says he got his pitch numbers from Bruce Miles. Maybe he or someone else can clear this up. I mentioned that earlier. I just found a CBS Sportsline article that backs up Al. I wouldn't be surprised if Muskat mixed up some facts, but I'd still like to see if Bruce could explain this.
  8. I'll give you that. I would feel bad about agreeing with Muskat if anyone with a shred of credibilty had evidence to show he was using steriods. I'm not going to change my mind to make sure I disagree with Muskat though. I just consider her a non-entity; everything she says is basically meaningless.
  9. This has been said a million times, and it still doesn't prove anything. Carrie Muskat agrees with you. http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/ Yeah, I read that. And Muskat's opinion, as always, means nothing.
  10. Yes, we've established that his calves are smaller.
  11. This has been said a million times, and it still doesn't prove anything.
  12. When I said that I wanted to wait for a report from someone who didn't think Prior was injured or on steriods, I should have added, excluding Muskat. Still, its nice to see that he made any kind of progress at all. As a side note, either the blogger or Muskat mixed up the pitch numbers of Marquis and Prior.
  13. Read this. Ugh. I'd say that I'd wait to hear a report from someone who didn't seem to have already decided Prior was on steriods/injured, but pretty much everyine in the Chicago media is against him at this point. Regardless, there's no question that he needs a lot more work than he can put in in one spring training. Hopefully he can come back to pitching for the major league team at some point this season.
  14. Does anyone know when Prior's minor league start was supposed to be today?
  15. I'll believe that when he gets to the mound at Wrigley. You speak as if there's a ton of time before opening day to sort things out with Prior. There isn't. He who has his stuff together now is likely the guy who will have his stuff together 3 weeks from now. There's time to work out some issues, that's what spring training is for, but rebuild a pitcher from scratch? Nay. I don't think they have to rebuild him from scratch. He sucked for a few innings in ST. That doesn't mean they have to rebuild him from scratch. He clearly has issues to work on, and there is no guarantee that he will be effective early in the season, but if he shows a comparable amount of progress to what he showed last time in the next two or three starts, he'll be able to pitch in the rotation. I really don't understand why people think that a few innings mean he is done. IIRC, he got rocked in pretty much all of his minor league rehab assignments, but he didn't need to be rebuilt from scratch. That's talking like he needs to go down to the minors for 2-3 years and start all over. I just don't see that.
  16. I'll believe that when he gets to the mound at Wrigley.
  17. Link? I don't think an unbiased interpretation of Lou's quotes shows anything except the obvious fact that Prior can't pitch in the regular season the way he has pitched in ST. He just said it on WGN radio's pregame show. If you have Gameday Audio you can hear the rebroadcast... Unfortunately I don't have it. I'll wait to see it in the paper.
  18. Link? I don't think an unbiased interpretation of Lou's quotes shows anything except the obvious fact that Prior can't pitch in the regular season the way he has pitched in ST. I think Lou and Hendry probably expect him to be ready to take a spot in the rotation, even if he isn't 100% to start with. Not many pitchers start the season at 100% even if they have been healthy.
  19. No, that just not true. When he's pitched, with the exception of 2006, he's been at least pretty good. Before he was hit by that line drive in 2005 he was pitching almost as well as he had in 2003. There's no reason to think that it is impossible for him to get into regular season shape by the end of spring. He won't be in midseason 2003 form, but if he can pitch, I'd bet that he'll have a good season.
  20. Bolder prediction: Prior will continue to suck in ST, make the team, and have a pretty good year. Then he'll be injured somehow. There are just too many possibilities to predict that one.
  21. I'm actually encouraged by his start today. The results were garbage, but his velocity improved and he showed a few glimmers of his old self. The curveball he threw to Sweeney was very nice. Overall, he still needs more time to get back to where he used to be, but he has it. I think he showed improvement in terms of how he pitched, even though his numbers didn't improve.
  22. Prior's command still looks shaky, but they aren't hitting his pitches very well at all.
  23. Prior's command doesn't look so great, but that last FB came in at 94. Could've been a problem with the gun though.
  24. It isn't that big. I think if he stays healthy the race is Prior vs. Prior alternative.
